Good to see that Lana Del Rey remix gaining speed - I'm guessing its because radio 1 are supporting it... I heard a part of it off the back of the Scott Mills podcast and thought it sounded good so did a search for it on itunes...

Hopefully can go top 10 next week

I credit Cedric because it's been released as 'Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais'. If it was just 'Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais Remix)' then I wouldn't credit him.

As an iTunes single on an iTunes chart, yes. Not on the official OCC chart though, when it's not the only version charting. Am I making sense?

You don't get multiple versions of a song charting. The single version is the one that charts and any other versions are combined into it. The single version of Summertime Sadness is credited to Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais, hencesoforth I am crediting Cedric even if the OCC aren't. Cedric should be credited on it, like Pitbull on Alexandra Burke's 'All Night Long' or Kanye West on Katy Perry's 'E.T.' etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the OCC change it to 'Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais' in the near future but even if they don't I'm still going to credit it like that on my spreadsheets :P

Cedric Gervais should be credited if his remix accounts for more than 50% of the single's total sales - like Spectrum last year!

Calvin was never credited on 'Spectrum' because he was just a remixer even on the single release, 'Summertime Sadness' is different as it actually gives Cedric an artist credit. A better example would be Snoop Dogg's 'Wet'/'Sweat', where David Guetta was credited because his remix was released as 'Snoop Dogg vs. David Guetta'.

You misunderstood, I did not mean you get multiple versions charting on the official chart, I meant that multiple versions are charting on the iTunes chart.

Now in this case, the song has already charted on the official chart as the original album version, which is why this new remix is being treated by the OCC as just another version of the song getting released.

But technically this is a different single being released so Cedric Gervais should get a credit as its not the album version that's selling but the remix that, according to the single art work, makes this a separate release surely??

Just with Avicii I will always add the featured artist as with this i credit it to Lana AND Cedric

But the album version is also selling. Them getting combined under the umbrella of the original seems more logical, no matter how much of a fuss there is about there being a 'vs' in the title of the remix single.

Alexandra Burke's 'All Night Long' had also already charted under the album version when the album originally came out, but the OCC added 'featuring Pitbull' when the single version was released. I imagine they'll do the same with Lana. They also did this with David Guetta's 'Gettin' Over You', until it got to #1 it appeared as 'David Guetta featuring Chris Willis - Gettin' Over', but it was then changed to 'David Guetta & Chris Willis featuring Fergie & LMFAO - Gettin' Over You', because that remix was the single version.

In both of the above scenarios the original version was also still selling but the OCC still changed the credit :P

I do understand where you're coming from but the 'vs.' in the remix release is, for me at least, sufficient for Cedric to be a credited artist. It may or may not be the case for the OCC as well but I don't always follow the OCC's crediting in my spreadsheets.

Yes, I am aware of these examples, but to me this is still a slightly different circumstance, just a remix, not a vocal contribution or guest rapper etc.

PRE-ORDERS

Singles chart:

339. Soon Come (feat. Liam Bailey) - Shy FX

606. Big When I Was Little - Eliza Doolittle

Album chart:

239. Dust Clears (Remixes) - EP - Clean Bandit

[-insert comment cheering on Shy FX and Clean Bandit-]

Not that differently - without the remix and Cedric's contribution as a dj/ remixer she wouldn't be on track to get another top 40 hit with this song

 45. Summertime Sadness! :D :D

:w00t:  :w00t:

I'm so excited about this!! I just don't get how its gained so much in the last few hours

Yeah, that's the same with me - I always judge uncredited features individually based on whether they add something to the track or not - recent example being Nile Rodgers on Get Lucky and obviously Aloe Blacc on Wake Me Up. These artists are not officially credited but I choose to include them anyway as I feel they deserve to be.

I'm going to credit it on mine to Lana alone - it's her song, G just added a few 'bells & whistles' to it...

If only 'National Anthem' was having this success. :drama:

Agreed.

At least it'll also give the album a heathy boost towards triple-platinum. :)
