Posted August 5, 201313 yr Single & Album Summary Avicii's grip at the top looks pretty shaky this week, Miley Cyrus bagging herself a #1 single "We Can't Stop", Tinie Tempah coming second fiddle to Miley with "Trampoline" collaborating with 2 Chainz. Justin Timberlake's "Take Back The Night", Off Monsters & Men, Disclosure, Imagine Dragons and Le Youth climbing further up the chart. As for the #1 album its like a needle in a haystack, it could be anyone in the top 5, Passenger might even get a shot at it. New album releases from The Civil Wars, Asking Alexandria, Swim Deep, Example and the Tenors. ======================================================= Please note new changes to the Sunday Chart Predictions thread topic: You can still post your own predictions for the week to generate chat to the topic. August 5, 201313 yr I would love Avicii to hold on for a 4th week but I won't get my hopes up! Miley and Tinie will be top 3, hopefully Lana can hold at 4 and Robin at 5! Another week, hardly any new releases elsewhere I'm looking forward to the next few weeks!
August 6, 201313 yr I wouldn't be surprised if Tinie enters at #2 in today's midweeks because of EP sales, but it should go down to #3 for the radio 1 chart update.
August 6, 201313 yr Do people tend to bang on trampolines? I have heard of it happening, but never engaged in such an acitivity myself.
August 6, 201313 yr Has the Example greatest hits got the new single he unveiled on Zane Lowe a few weeks back or is it a new album at the end of the year!
August 6, 201313 yr Author John Earls @EarlsJohn 35m After Miley Cyrus and Tinie, there are just two new entries in the Top 100 singles midweeks. That cannot be healthy.John Earls @EarlsJohn 27m @DrumPhilJordan Quite. She's at No 1 by a street. Bored of the "Charts are healthy, look at sales" view. https://twitter.com/EarlsJohn
August 6, 201313 yr Has the Example greatest hits got the new single he unveiled on Zane Lowe a few weeks back or is it a new album at the end of the year! No! The new single will be released in September with his new record label Sony. The GH album is Ministry Of Sound's last opportunity of cashing in on his previous albums released with them.
August 6, 201313 yr O rite was wondering hopefully he can come back strongly. No wonder he is holding it back so long - he's on Sony!!
August 6, 201313 yr O rite was wondering hopefully he can come back strongly. No wonder he is holding it back so long - he's on Sony!! MOS are just as bad, if not worse for holding back releases. Say Nothing & Changed The Way You Kiss Me were released about 7-8 weeks after their first radio spin! Duke Dumont was around for months before finally being released at the end of March and don't get me started on Matt Zo & Porter Robinson's Easy! Edited August 6, 201313 yr by gavindeejay
August 6, 201313 yr Interesting Twitter conversation there, as sales are so good it's easy to ignore how boring the charts are again recently. Not quite to 2008 levels but still! But fair enough at songs hanging around for ages if they're future million sellers but it would be nice if we got back to an era of 5/6 high to mid profile releases a week rather than 1 or 2!

But fair enough at songs hanging around for ages if they're future million sellers but it would be nice if we got back to an era of 5/6 high to mid profile releases a week rather than 1 or 2! I've got no problem with songs having good longevity as this helps sales but I would prefer it if we had more frequent weeks where there are a good selection of new releases to shake the chart up a bit, I mean 2 new entries in the whole top 100 is shocking but sales are at their highest level for some time but I do miss the early 2000's when we had those random acts popping up and weeks were we would have anything from 9-14 new entries!! I miss the variety of the genres in the charts more than anything. In one week I remember we had Muse, Agnelli & Nelson and Richard Blackwood in the same week!! Now its all 1D this, Rihanna that and I find it really frustrating but as I said sales have been amazing this year, especially the 12 weeks where the number one sold over 100k I guess that's the compromise!
August 6, 201313 yr The reason the number of new entries has gone down is surely BECAUSE sales are so good - the hit singles sell a good amount for a lot longer than they used to so there is no longer room for niche artists to chart decently for a week on low, fanbase-driven sales before plummeting away again. The past few weeks has been particularly bad for new entries (although 2 weeks ago, while 1D were the only new entry top 40, there were a ton of them between 41 and 100) but you're always going to get patches that are worse than others.
August 6, 201313 yr This is why I just dont care to listen to the charts anymore, its so boring, the same songs every week for months and months. I long for the days when there were at least 10 new entries in the top40.

Exactly, sales in the lower end of the chart have been lower the last 2/3 weeks which is why alot of lower selling new entries entered the top 40 last weekend for instance - Aluna George!
August 6, 201313 yr This is why I just dont care to listen to the charts anymore, its so boring, the same songs every week for months and months. I long for the days when there were at least 10 new entries in the top40. Well the German charts are far worse (but you should know that) :heehee:
August 6, 201313 yr I much prefer to see the UK chart like this than just full of releases that'll drop out the following week. Saying that, it'd be nice to have more than TWO new entries, haha. The likes of Flo Rida and Pitbull should take advantage and release their track now, though Katy Perry and Lady Gaga's OA/OS will suffice.
