August 8, 201312 yr Oh I didn't know there was a specific recurrents list. That would probably explain it then, there's a few other older songs which they play a lot, so I guess they must come from the same list. There is most of them are 2013 songs but they do play older recurrence the oldest being the killers mr bright side or when we were young. Mainly it's stuff like gotye and stuff though!
August 8, 201312 yr Bit surprised at no Jessie J seeing as 'Wild' was B listed straight away but I am sure they will playlist her next week. I also really hope MKS do get playlisted. Disappointing playlist all round this week, would have loved to have seen Miguel and Le Youth move up. Think it was blisted because it was OA/OS so they were forced to play it regularly straight away whereas this one is being held back for 5 weeks!!

One for songs they have taken off the playlist but are still popular & in the Top 40 such as Daft Punk's Get Lucky, Arctic Monkeys Do I Wanna Know, which is why you still hear them quite often even though they've come off the main playlist. Then they'd have a recurrent 2 list for songs a year or two old such as The Killers, M83, Metro Station, GOTYE, Foo Fighters, etc.... The recurrent lists would be generally larger than the A,B or C lists so the tracks on there won't come round as often. Unfortunately R1 (or any other station) don't publish the recurrent current lists on their websites, so we don't know what songs they have on them as they're not seen as important as the A, B or C list, they just have them so some familiar songs are mixed in with the newer stuff on the main playlist. That's basically how they work it anyway!

August 9, 201312 yr If you listen to the start of each hour or after the half hourly news they play a main alist song for instance right now its VW Unbelievers and before it was Will.i.am Bang Bang a former alist regular which is still top 10 so gets some spins & at half 10 theyll prob do the same but it might be Jake Bugg Broken (current alist main song) and Gotye to follow (an old fav)!
August 9, 201312 yr I wonder how much control the DJs actually have about what songs they play. It seems that most of what they play has already been decided by producers by picking from the playlist!
August 9, 201312 yr It does during the daytime - they have producers who add the songs to the computer for their shows at the start of the week so they click onto each song i think. I remember radio 1 access all areas showed a video of this not sure how much the djs have in say of this. The daytime djs are basically presenters nowadays not proper music djs like in the past. Thats why i hate fearne cotton, grimmy (who does know a bit about music) & Greg James compared to mark radcliffe, Jo Wiley & djs like that they dont have a clue at least the older djs are passionate about music not just former t4 presenters!

But when Scrawn and Jo Whiley were doing daytime shows they were subject to exactly the same playlist system (except that they were probably still playing tracks off CD in the early 2000s?) They were still playing the scheduled music with only two of their own choices per hour.
August 10, 201312 yr I know but at least they were proper djs passionate about music I don't believe Fearne or Greg James are similar like that!
August 10, 201312 yr I don't particularly like Fearne Cotton but I get the impression she is a music lover. Greg James I don't know that much about but he seems a nice chap.
