That's the problem that both GaGa and a lot of her fans don't realise. Completely overhyping herself so early in her career is fantastic for the short-term but extremely damaging long-term. Just look at Spice Girls who were very similar in that sense. They were EVERYWHERE in 1996/7 and the hype that they, their team and their fans created was so HUGE that they were never going to be able to continue on that level (even if Geri didn't leave). GaGa has tried every trick in the book with her outrageous outfits at every big event (the meat dress, the dressing up as a guy, the egg ) to the point where she has nowhere new to go and the same can be said for her music. Most bold, daring popstars do things slowly and don't use up all their tricks and gimmicks in the first two years of their career. The 10 minute videos for nearly every song in her last era is another example. Yes the 'Paparazzi' and 'Telephone' videos were great but repeating the gimmick over and over again just kills it eventually. If GaGa wanted to rebuild popularity, then maybe she should've come back with an understated release first.

I have to agree with all of this. The crazy train was tonnes of fun at the time (and worked wonders for her campaign back then) but now i just need killer music with less of the DRAMA.

Having said that a lot of Gaga detractors are just as bad as the crazed fans (as this thread has proven). She's not #1 and so already the out-of-date labels are being branded. People wanted less this time round and that's what she's given with the single, so give it time to grow on the charts or if it doesn't she can try again with the next single like any other popstar does.

OH MY GOD. :drama:

All this Gaga hate? She does not think she is the greatest thing to happen to music! And she just wanted BTW to be an album for her FANS that they would appreciate, the title 'Born This Way' says a lot and the album is an inspiration to most monsters. I think people misinterpret Gaga so much, she is the nicest person, she actually thinks so little of herself, you guys should watch the Monster Ball dvd or go to a Gaga show and witness it for yourself. That being said, her last tour was one of the highest grossing tours despite canceling almost the whole US leg - she is incredibly relevant.

How can she be irrelevant or underperforming if 'Applause' and the 'ARTPOP' pre-order is #1 almost everywhere? Just because 'Applause' isn't #1 in the US and UK after a few days now all of a sudden everyone's going off and saying she's flopping/underperforming/she's no longer relevant/this era is going to flop blah blah blah moan moan moan. WHAT ON EARTH! :drama:

Its this kind of monster brainwashed disillusion that has rattled peoples cages on here.

Lets just wait and see shall we, the current facts are out there!

Good god. No one here is being a "hater". Gaga might be a lovely person and relevant and the song might end up with good sales but people are simply interpreting what Gaga does, because let's be honest, some people yesterday were thinking that iTunes crashed because of Gaga. That IS an underperformance in some sense.

Yeah, agreed, all Gaga fans seem to be deluded. Are there any Gaga stans here who aren't deluded and will actually admit that Applause is under-performing?

I accept that compared to Rihanna and Adele, maybe even 1D, she is flopping :(

But Rihanna and Katy Perry are the two biggest popstars on the planet, Adele more so but in a different category, and 1D the most successful boy band. GaGa is still doing okay considering she's not as popular.

Leona Lewis update! :cheer:

"Run" #77.

"Bleeding Love" #525.

"Footprints In The Sand" #1063.

"Better In Time" #1447!!! :o This is the first time I've seen this in the top 1500 in years! Perhaps it's always just outside and actually does well with trickle sales? I hope so :D Would love it to be 59p at some point in the future. Perhaps after "Run" has finished with its current run at 59p :kink:

I do agree that people who don't even bother to give her music the time of day before judging are just as bad as people who believe she can do no wrong. However, I do believe that a lot of her detractors stem from her ridiculous fans (not all) and if her fans actually toned it down in many ways, then the detractors would too. I remember at the beginning of 2009, I was sick of GaGa already (before I started liking 'Paparazzi') and aired my views on here but with BJ being pro-GaGa (this is in the midst of the initial GaGa hype) I was shot down for not liking her by everyone. If everyone was just objective (as objective as they can be when it comes to music) about her and other artists, then there'd be no huge conflict. But delusional fans won't endear the general public (detractors or not) to her and that post somewhere up the page is just completely ridiculous.

The problem with GaGa is the Spicey Problem, as SeveinSeize said too.

She is a persona, just like the SPice Girls, and their names are part of these personas - Spice and GaGa. It's why they can't change their sound every release, they have to release either spicey or gaga music, no matter if it's popular or not. GaGa has to release these club bangers, she can't do a Rihanna and release one, then a mid-tempo then an rnb one or ballad to start a campaign. I'd personally be disappointed if it wasn't a big club banger, because it's GaGa, but Rihanna and Katy have more room.

And yes, I am one of the big GaGa fans on here but can still admit it :P (Even if some people thought I was trolling -_-: ... obviously just excited by the first GaGa release in TWO YEARS!! :o Wish it hadn't started so messy for her :/ )

So then, this thread is still an embarrassment.

Business as usual.

And still my fav.

Popcornnn ~

If Gaga was only selling ~40% of Ellie Golding after less than 8 or 9 hours on sale (up to 12am) I'm very surprised she's at #11 already in the midweeks? Is something up with iTunes?

What did I say..?

Am I right in thinking that The Wanted have now released FOUR singles ahead of this new album of their's?

Chasing The Sun (#2)

Lightning (#2)

Walks Like Rihanna (#4)

We Own The Night

I'm guessing they're gonna release a fifth single before they release the album though? If so, surely that's taking the piss a bit - five (or maybe more) singles before an album drops!

' I Found You' :kink:

Replace Lightning with I Found You and we're there.

I wouldn't say GaGa releases club bangers, she releases electro-pop. I don't think I've ever heard her be played in a club actually. Maybe 'Just Dance' but nothing else. :o

I always hear songs played in clubs.
