We're not the US guys. Tracks don't benefit from OA/OS over here as much as they do in the US. We're still getting used to having OA/OS tracks after so many years of waiting for tracks to become available. Yes, we've had some of the biggest hits of the past few years which were OA/OS, but that's just us starting to adapt to this whole technique. We're slowly getting used to how it has (always?) worked in the US.

As for the media, they can go shove it somewhere. When 'Applause' has been in the top 10 for a couple of more weeks they'll be branding it a smash and hopefully it'll teach them to not jump the gun so often.

I know the radio 1 playlist from the early 90s in this weeks thread is very revealing with at leats 3 tracks stright into the alist - they should do it more like that now and adapt a bit quicker!

Applause wont be branded a smash unless it somehow makes top 3. At this point it has a #5 peak and a chart run of 5-9, if that chart run ends up 5-9-8-10-15 no one is going to be calling it a smash.

Not to mention every time the song is left to sell on its own (when there isn't any extra promo) it has been going down on itunes.

Also I'm not sure you can ever call a Gaga or Rihanna song OA/OS, if they drop a new song on to itunes, within 3 days it will have been heard more times than most other songs held back for a month.

Drake back in the top 10 HOORAY.

 31. Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert) - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

 36. Things We Lost in the Fire - Bastille

 41. Sex - The 1975

All of these for top 40 this week please.

Eminem's new track is on spotify in uk now, so surely it must appear on itunes now

That does suggest they might release it soon, but it could be an accident. Also some songs were on Spotify before being released digitally (e.g. Jack by Breach, and I Love It by Icona Pop I think).

Tragic that Nina has not made the Top 40 yet - I thought this was her chance of getting a decent sizes hit but it seems to be in decline - Also I can see Shane being pushed out of the Top 40 soon although the EP still seems to be holding up well although I'd be surprised now if he manages Top 20 officially.

:ne: 824. Cassadee Pope - 11

A new promotional single from Cassadee, very happy to see this in the UK top 1500! I'm not sure if 'Wasting All These Tears' (the single) or 'You Hear A Song' (the first promotional single) reached the UK top 1500.

Go on 'Same Love' :D Hopefully it'll finally be sent to radio now. I think it's highly unlikely that it has been sent already and been snubbed, it's been a big hit in the USA which is a far more homophobic country than the UK and there's no way R1 and Capital would ignore it after they loved the first two Macklemore singles so much.

I've heard Heart play it a few times on their late show

Because people only remember songs that stay in the top 40 for weeks on end.

Just because a few more radio stations picked up "Chocolate" for a couple of weeks doesn't mean everything else they've done is forgotten. I saw them at Leeds yesterday and they packed a tent despite the fact that they've not even released an album, and a lot of the crowd recognised pretty much everything they played. Open your mind a little.

I saw them at Reading and couldn't get near the tent, as soon as they'd played 'Chocolate' I could get well inside as about a third of the people inside it left as they'd heard the one song they knew!

I might listen to Heart just to hear it.

:nocheer: Urgh at Ellie having 2 versions of 'Burn' in the Top 100 [1 & 89] - It's such an average song not getting the love for this at all.

Inclined to agree here - Anything Could Happen and Figure 8 were a LOT better imo

:cheer: Top 40 starting to look likely for 'Sex', I thought it would have already peaked on iTunes by now!

 93. Give It 2 U (feat. Kendrick Lamar) - Robin Thicke

Kendrick FINALLY coming for that first top 40 hit very soon hopefully.

What's with the sudden surge for Same Love, has it even been sent to radio yet? :o This is looking likely to be huge, which I would approve of if it will convince the radio to move on from hammering Can't Hold Us.

MTV VMAs effect (seems to be a lot more noticeable than usual this year). I believe the Robin/Kendrick song has also been boosted by the VMAs.

I think the fact that just one performance at an event that doesn't typically affect the chart much has propelled 'Same Love' all the way to the top 30 is pretty much proof that it's a HUGE hit in waiting (potentially bigger than 'Can't Hold Us').

I think it was performed at the VMA'S on Monday!?

The video for Give It 2 U came out today too, so that will have an effect too I assume.

Yes for Same Love though, about time
