Whatever you think about Gaga, you can't deny that she is one of the most noticeable and essential popstars of our generation. Other artists such as Katy Perry cannot create anywhere near as much discussion as she can.

While I don't entirely disagree with this comment, she does create more discussion, I don't think Gaga IS discussed all that much anymore. She is online, she's much more spoken about on forums like this much more. But if I reflect on my actual life, I've heard very little talk about Gaga of recent - there was next to no discussion about Applause and I didn't even see that many of my friends posting about her X Factor performance.

This, obviously, differs from friend groups I imagine, but it goes back to a point similar to what Jark often makes, I think people base opinions on some iTunes positions and general reception from a small handful of online Monsters and what not. They're not really the best indicator and right now, Gaga isn't actually hugely discussed in the bigger picture.

I don't really know, in my friendship group there's only one other person who likes to talk about pop culture, but then he can talk about Work Bitch so I don't think that's a good indicator. But I've definitely seen more articles about Gaga than Katy. Also, Gaga is a more interesting character so that would mean that she would be more likely to have more attention surrounding her than Katy, who has the sales to back her up more than anything. But I've honestly not seen this interest in an artist or album online or offline this year apart from Miley and maybe Daft Punk and Robin Thicke.
Yeah, I'm not entirely disputing your comments by any means - I do agree that Gaga does still have plenty of talk about her and as an ARTIST (I'd say Roar had a lot more discussion/love in real world than Applause, but that's a song). I just don't think in the bigger world, outside forums and concentrated fan groups, that Lady Gaga is all that hyped anymore. Aside from one person (who is quite a strong Gaga fan) I know, I haven't seen much hype for ARTPOP in the real world, as you say though.
I wish she had left the production duties to RedOne. I imagine then we would have gotten out of 'Venus' what everybody is looking for...
Roar definitely had a lot more hype and love while people were only really aware of Applause. Roar vs Applause was such an "online forum only" chart battle.

Popjustice:

It's worrying, almost heartbreaking really, that this piss-poor, messy descent into self-parody was ever in the running for the second single from 'ARTPOP'.

There are a fair number of decent bits, but there are toe-curling moments too. Gaga should understand better than most - she certainly used to - that pop is all about the full package, and the full, finished song just doesn't work. Most problematically, this song simply isn't finished. The production is incredibly basic, the lyrics feel like a first draft, and the middle eight is a disaster.

If this had surfaced as an unreleased demo from the 'The Fame' sessions it might have held some value as a curiosity. As a proposed single in 2013, it's tragic.

FOUR/10

Blimey. The online reaction to this song is incredibly OTT.

I think it just seems more OTT due to the fact she announced it was going to be the second single, so I think people expected something a lot better and stronger. But ultimately were left disappointed and pleased that the decision was changed to make 'Do What You Want' (which is a lot easier for not only the fans but the general public to connect to) the second single.

I really cannot get into this track at all. It's definitely one of my least favourite songs from her. :(

Penus is f***ing slaying and all y'all will be considered shushed.
This is growing on me! I do feel compelled to shout "PENIS" as a result now though, it's almost as bad as when I was shouting "HOOOOOKERRRRRR" back in 2011. :drama:

This is a solid pop song! Glad it's not the single though. I gave it a 7/10... "Uranus, don't you know my ass is famous?". THAT just bumped it up to a 8/10.

Loving Gaga this era!

Okay, against EVERY FIBRE OF MY BODY telling me this is terrible - I'm getting horribly hooked on it and it's absolute ridiculousness. :(

Ok, maybe y'all were right in saying I overreacted by saying it was worse than Pink.

But just because it's slightly less atrocious than the worst song of the past ten years does not say much.

Okay, against EVERY FIBRE OF MY BODY telling me this is terrible - I'm getting horribly hooked on it and it's absolute ridiculousness. :(

It's fabulously ridiculous. From the Boney M/Bowie-esque verses into that Guetta style trancey pre-chorus and then the balls out Abba chorus *.*

I've loved it since first listen :kink:

And so have I Lee believe it or not :o

I have succumbed to its utter ridiculousness now :(.

Do What U Want is still 100x better though.

This is officially a 10/10 for me now.
