Simon doesn't have power over Radio 1 and the I Am material didn't suit Capital.

 

People forget that Radio 1 had moved on from Leona by the time Lovebird was released, you can only have a couple of flops before Radio 1 decide they no longer support someone.

I don’t recall them being big supporters of any of her albums since E=MC2. They play AIWFCIY as it is very clear that their audience love that song based on its consistent streaming and downloads.

 

I would say her relationship with radio 1 went south after the drama around Collide.

I can’t really say for Trouble but I thought they only really picked up OMS after its X Factor performance and set to be a hit. I am glad they did, but I just got the feeling by then that unless they could see it was a hit in the making they wouldn’t support the materia she put out.

 

Hopefully she does get support with the new album still..

Radio 1 will never support Leona again with a normal single. Odd they won't play her Christmas song even on Christmas eve though!

Yeah I get them not supporting her album campaigns but to choose to ignore a legitimate, recurrent Christmas hit that's now well over 300k sales is just stupid, stubborn and speaks for their arrogance really.

It should have more radio spins but it’s performances in the official chart (minus this year) hasn’t been overly impressive, I mean it’s no coincidence that it’s airplay has picked up due to re-entering the top 40 but it probably would be missing the top 40 if ACR wasn’t in effect. It’s iTunes performance has also been very underwhelming!

It really deserves to be a Christmas classic so let's hope it takes off worldwide - then, BBC will never dare snub her, no matter how petty they are being!

Because it hasn't gotten much radio play :lol: Its iTunes performance has actually been quite good. There are a number of Christmas songs that have been getting a lot more airplay that aren't doing as well as Leona on iTunes;

 

Paul McCarntey - Wonderful Christmastime

Elton John - Step Into Christmas

Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody

Greg Lake - I believe In Father Christmas

 

etc. The above are all in the top 40 on the airplay chart (where Leona isn't) and Leona's done better than them on iTunes and some of them in streaming. I just don't understand why radio is so inconsistent in supporting the song though. One year they'll play it a bunch and the next hardly at all.

Yeah, radio play all sorts of much less successful christmas songs by less relevant artists. ‘Warm This Winter’ being a random example. And Underneath the Tree got a lot more support this year too. Even if it was based on the ‘performance of the song’ it re-entered the Uk top 40 3 weeks ago, you’d think that’d have made the radios react and start playing it a bit.

Why do Radio 1 support Kelly's one in that case then? She's about as 'relevant' as Leona isn't in the UK.
