I see all the dance songs that came out this year that either just went T10 or just missed (Sonnentanz, Afterglow, So Good To Me, Mozart's House, Turn Me Out all spring to mind)

Well 'Sonnentanz' and 'So Good To Me' were pretty massive top 3 hits and 'Mozart's House' and 'Turn Me Out' were nowhere near the top 10 so I would say only one of those fits into either of those categories :kink: And even that had 2 weeks top 10.

Wow, I really wasn't expecting Storm Queen to be that big ! I thought it was top40 material at best :o

I'm happy with Little Mix getting top3 and Britney top5, I thought both would do worse than that.

It was so clear that Storm Queen was heading for #1 the entire time.

Na Na Na made #3 in the midweeks when WMYB was released didn't it?

Whoops ^_^ well I stand corrected.

I'll make a different point instead... Look Right Through doesn't feel like a #1.

I'm not living in the UK so I was not aware of the hype and popularity of the song. I knew it made the Radio 1 playlist but I didn't know it was that massive.

I personally think that another version of Look Right Through is better than the actual one. The version I really like is from The Place Ibiza Vol 2 album, wish that one could chart! It's on Spotify.

That's the version I listen to the most as well. It's also on "Future Disco Vol.4 - Neon Lights".

It's nice that it will be #1, this song reminds me of Fresher's Week 2013.

The Storm Queen song is, as someone mentioned earlier, a commercial example of what music is most popular with young people right now: house. If you went to any house party, "pre drinks" or cooler club nights this weekend, guaranteed that most of the music played would be house.

House has been popular since mid-2012, with Julio Bashmore - Au Seve, Jessie Ware - Running (Disclosure Remix), Bingo Players - Rattle, etc. I mentioned how I was hearing those songs everywhere, and I was surprised they weren't doing anything in the charts, and people on here just said the usual "Just because your friends listen to these songs, it doesn't mean they're popular".

59p songs in the top 100:

 23 Ylvis - The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)

 29 Robin Thicke feat. Kendrick Lamar - Give It 2 U

 40 Icona Pop - All Night

 67 Sean Paul - Turn It Up

 79 Blackstreet & Dr. Dre - No Diggity

 87 Rudimental feat. Emeli Sandé - Free

 92 Demi Lovato - Skyscraper

 94 Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr feat. Beardyman - Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (Calvin Harris Remix Edit)

Hoping Britney can hit the top 3 at some point.

Had no idea this was 59p. I don't think it'll make the top 20 though. I still really want Baby as a single.

G'won BritBrit! (Still haven't bought Little Mix until I know it's safe enough to do so :drink:)
I think Little Mix's song is much better than Britney's. Britney's song is quite creative, but I think the beat could've been better. It's too fast and loud imo (and sounds like Sexy and I Know It ).

I'm pretty sure House is not just popular since mid-2012, in fact since much earlier.

The statement "Just because your friends listen to these songs, it doesn't mean they're popular" is still true but it must be said, that House is not really a commercial genre. The aforementioned songs didn't even had promotion or airplay much to be as high on the singles chart as Storm Queen. Well apart from Bingo Players who were number 1 for 2 weeks but they had airplay too (if I remember well). I think fans of House music rather buy full mixes not individual songs so they won't appear on singles/tracks charts.

Do sales for videos count towards the chart? WB is #1

Nope. Not sure how much music videos really sell on iTunes anyway, I doubt it'd be enough to make much of a difference.

Just wondering. I was told they do in the US.

Yeah, house has been around for decades, but I didn't hear very much in 2010/2011, except for in a club specifically for house. But now you hear it, even in an R&B/hip hop or top 40 club/room. Dubstep has plummeted in popularity as well, I hardly hear it anymore, whilst I'd hear a lot of it when I was first old enough to go. Au Seve and Rattle were the first house songs I started hearing regularly (i.e. almost every night) in mainstream clubs, and that was over a year ago. Those songs's popularity are NOTHING to do with my friends, they don't decide what gets played. Even if my friends hated/didn't know the songs, I'd still have heard them everywhere, so that statement isn't true.

Now this statement IS true

Well you brought up the thing about your friends  BTW the statement is true, because it doesn't say "Just because your friends listen to these songs, it means it's not popular", the statement say "Just because your friends listen to these songs, it doesn't mean they're popular", in other words they can popular and they can't be popular, so it's true :D ;) :P

PS. actually:

Those songs's popularity are NOTHING to do with my friends = Just because your friends listen to these songs, it doesn't mean they're popular

Oh, I see what you mean.

But for future reference, when I say "I hear this song everywhere", I don't mean "My friends like it", I actually mean I hear the song everywhere.

I see it, tbh you're right when you say some house tracks are getting more and more airplay and not just in the UK.
