Posted November 30, 201311 yr http://ollydaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/banner00004-620x400.jpg Sponsored by my husband ~ ------- It's that time of the year again! I've compiled my favourite mostly female and sterotypically gay singles and albums of 2013, but which song and album will take over from 2012's top track Euphoria by Loreen and 2012's top album Red by Taylor Swift?? Predict away before I start this later or tomorrow :D
December 2, 201311 yr Author A few stats just before the top 20 albums... 11 US, 6 UK, 2 Australian and one Kiwi album 4 UK #1 album 1 of the top 3 has not charted in the Uk Only 2 albums predominately by males
December 2, 201311 yr Author 20 Jessie J - Alive Highlights: Conquer The World (ft. Brandy), Sexy Lady, Wild One of Buzzjack's hate figures kicks off our countdown! Her debut Who You Are contained amazing tracks such as the title track, Price Tag and Nobody's Perfect, but ultimately fell a bit flat aside from the singles and isn't something I go back to much now. Despite not differing too much in sound, her second effort is much more successful. Even with a single like It's My Party, which I love (sorry not sorry... 19 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist Highlights: Can't Hold Us (ft. Ray Dalton), Same Love (ft. Mary Lambert), Thrift Shop (ft. Wanz) As well as being the hottest rapper going (yes really) and a total sweetheart in regards to gay rights, Macklemore isn't averse to making some damn good music. I set him aside as a novelty one hit wonder after hearing Thrift Shop over a year ago, but upon hearing Same Love I knew he was different. Uptempo stomper Can't Hold Us piqued my interest, and led me to check out the best rap album of the year!
December 2, 201311 yr As well as being the hottest rapper going (yes really) just checked him out after you said that. agreed. he looks quite similar to Matt Healy too, and he is gorgeous <3 great to see 'Alive' here, fab album! Not listened to all of 'The Heist', but I'm sure it's a fab album cos most of his songs grew on me eventually (although 'Same Love' was instant)! (poor forgotten Ryan Lewis tho)
December 2, 201311 yr Author 18 Ariana Grande - Yours Truly Highlights: Piano, Better Left Unsaid, The Way (ft. Mac Miller) Beauty that could turn me and a voice to match  Much of this could easily have been released by Mariah Carey in the 90s, and Ariana even manages to go some way towards emulating her vocally! All very impressive for a 20 year old who came from Nickelodeon. 17 Lorde - Pure Heroine Highlights: Glory and Gore, Royals, Tennis Court Despite being the youngest artist on this chart, 16 year old Kiwi Lorde has a maturity far beyond most here. Pure Heroine's highlights are as addictive as its namesake, and Lorde already has a way with words most writers twice her age could only dream of.
December 4, 201311 yr Author 15 Natalia Kills - Trouble Highlights: Saturday Night, Problem, Marlboro Lights Fresh from a baffling flop with her debut Perfectionist, Natalia Kills shunned generic pop which she apparently 'hates'. This is hardly an experimental jazz concept album or a death metal epic, but is nonetheless a different enough style to her debut so that things are interesting, but not too much of a jump. All things considered, actually I do prefer her debut (who wouldn't when it has a song like Break Ya Hard on it?), but this is really worth a listen for any pop fan. 14 Selena Gomez - Stars Dance Highlights: Come & Get It, Undercover, Forget Forever After three albums hiding behind 'The Scene', she's 'going it alone'. Not that anyone bothered to call her anything but plain old Selena Gomez anyway... But still, with a more mature and sexy image and sound, Stars Dance shows a growth in Selena's sound. The highlight, worldbeat and Rihanna channelling lead single Come & Get It, is a prime example.
December 4, 201311 yr Selena Gomez  Her singles have been epic and her album is amazing!! She's brilliant
December 4, 201311 yr Author 13 Ciara - Ciara Highlights: Overdose, Livin' It Up, I'm Out (ft. Nicki Minaj) Speaking of sexy, it's flop queen Ciara! Despite having a #1 hit with Goodies in 2004 (to be fair that was 9 years ago), poor Ciara hasn't had a Uk hit since Love Sex Magic in 2009, though I'm Out managed to scrape top 40 for this album. Released by Rihanna, Katy or Miley, Overdose or Livin' It Up would sail to #1 but alas. 12 Paramore - Paramore Highlights: Ain't It Fun, Still Into You, Part II Pretty much my favourite band. Hayley's voice is orgasmic on anything, but the experiments in poppier sounds on tracks like Ain't It Fun and Still Into You have amazing results. Of course, tracks like Now and Anklebiters are classic Paramore still, so there's no alienation of old fans in this. 11 The Saturdays - Living For The Weekend Highlights: What About Us?, Disco Love, Not Giving Up, Leave A Light On, You Don't Have The Right Perhaps something most of you expected to see higher.... The reason it's not is because it simply pales in comparison to the majestic On Your Radar. Still, if I judge it alone it's still a pretty damn good pop album. Nothing new, there is Higher part 7172832 with Not Giving Up and typical Sats ballads from You Don't Have The Right and Leave The Light On, but in pop I think if it ain't broke don't fix it. And this certainly isn't broke.
December 4, 201311 yr Excellent start Liam! Great albums, love so many of those  I'll place my bets on Jessica Mauboy, just because. Edited December 4, 201311 yr by RiseR
December 6, 201311 yr Author Someone other than me mentioning Jessica <3 10 Miley Cyrus - Bangerz Highlights: Wrecking Ball, Someone Else, SMS (Bangerz), Do My Thang, We Can't Stop UndoubtedlyTHE pop talking point of the year, Miley has yet again managed to make a bloody amazing pop album, following Breakout and Can't Be Tamed. This saw a change in style to a more 'ghetto' sound which lent itself well to Miley's new twerking habit... Nevertheless, this is packed full of amazing vocals, wonderful melodies and jamzzzz.
December 6, 201311 yr Author Drive is good, but hella overrated. 4x4 is totes amaze though... 9 Dami Im - Dami Im Highlights: One, Alive, Roar, Hero, Wrecking Ball Captivating me from her week 1 performance of One by U2, Australia's X-Factor winner Dami grabbed me to the point where I stanned for her more than possibly any singing contest contestant ever. As the most talented contestant since Leona Lewis, Dami works her magic even on an album full of mostly covers (bar the glorious uplifting winner's single Alive), resulting in some better-than-the-originals covers. The rest are still nothing to be sniffed at either, but boo for her excluding Clarity :(
December 13, 201311 yr 20 Jessie J - Alive 19 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist 18 Ariana Grande - Yours Truly 14 Selena Gomez - Stars Dance 13 Ciara - Ciara 11 The Saturdays - Living For The Weekend 10 Miley Cyrus - Bangerz 9 Dami Im - Dami Im These are the albums I've heard and liked! 100% in the heard-like ratio. The other albums I haven't heard in full... Macklemore, Ariana, Ciara and Miley being the highlights so far
December 14, 201311 yr Author (posting two at a time to be done quicker to get on with the singles!) 08 Rebecca Ferguson - Freedom Highlights: Freedom, I Hope, Bridges, Fake Smile, My Best A very late entry to this list is the second album from the rightful winner of X-Factor 2010, Rebecca Ferguson. Following her astounding double platinum selling album Heaven, Rebecca had a lot to live up after being labelled as the first truly credible X-Factor alum with her brand of soulful jazz and smooth jams, having gained two top 20 hits and some revered tracks such as the beautiful Teach Me How To Be Loved and the soulful Glitter & Gold. But her second album hardly suffers a sophomore slump, as a tough time with her record label crafted much of the same calibre - smooth vocals, soulful melodies and just an altogether pretty damn amazing album. 07 Kelly Clarkson - Wrapped In Red Highlights: Underneath The Tree, Just For Now, Winter Dreams (Brandon's Song), Wrapped In Red, Baby It's Cold Outside FLOP LOON!!!!!!1!!!1 Queen Kelly "only" comes in at 7 :o This is pretty much all down to the fact that I was (and pretty much still am) the only person on earth not pissing themselves over Christmas early, so I didn't obsess over it to my full loony potential :( This heartwarming collection of classic Christmas covers and future classic originals has me somewhat festive now though, and will certainly have a place in my Christmas playlist for years to come, with its winter warmer infused with love for her husband Brandon.
December 16, 201311 yr Author 06 Britney Spears - Britney Jean Highlights: Tik Tik Boom (ft. T.I.), Passenger, Alien, 'Til It's Gone, Now That I Found You Just missing out on the top 5 is the 'highly personal' epynomous (almost, middle name instead of surname) 8th album by Britney bitch. The EDM Work Bitch, while a good effort to be a bit different, was a bit lacklustre, but as we know is the case at times with Britney it was a case of horrifically chosen single. Second single Perfume adhered to the promised personal sound a bit more, but it's the album tracks here that really show the best of Britney. R&B jam Tik Tik Boom could be an easy hit (COULD being the operative word, we all know Britney won't even be taking any post album singles to #111 like I Wanna Go), whilst orientally infused Passenger hears Britney holding perhaps her longest note ever! All in all, really not at all deserving of the #34 UK peak and such worldwide floppage :( 05 Little Mix - Salute Highlights: Move, These Four Walls, Salute, They Just Don't Know, Little Me Achieving their second year end top 5 album for me in as many years, the only group to ever win The X Factor kicks off the top 5. Jesy, Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne promised an album that was more R&B in sound, which was the source of much excitement to anyone who remembered how amazing their Don't Let Go perofmance was on X-Factor. Funky lead single Move was bang on trend, and gave them another top 10 with one of the best songs of the year, but the ballads on the album are what's really on point. These Four Walls is a shockingly sensitive cry of vulnerability, while Little Me is as empowering as Change Your Life from their debut. There might not be any songs to beat the incredible DNA, but overall this is an improvement on their debut regardless. So that just leaves four albums.... any predictions? :P
