Leona Lewis becomes first British female solo artist to score eight UK Top 5 singles.

Her new single, One More Sleep, may have narrowly been kept off Number 1 yesterday, but Leona Lewis has cause for celebration nevertheless after setting a new Official Singles Chart record.

Leona now has more Top 5 hits to her name than any other British female solo artist in history!

"The support from my fans has been tremendous," she tells OfficialCharts.com. "I could not do this without them!"

Leona made her Official Singles Chart debut seven years ago with her X Factor winner’s single, A Moment Like This. She then topped the chart again the following year with Bleeding Love, the first single from her debut album, Spirit. The track went on to become one of the UK’s biggest singles of all-time, selling over a million copies.

2008’s Better In Time / Footprints In The Sand peaked at Number 2, while Forgive Me and Run peaked at Number 5 and Number 1, respectively, later that year. Happy, the lead single from Leona’s second album, Echo, peaked at Number 2 in 2009, while Collide, her 2011 collaboration with Avicii, peaked at Number 4.

And now with One More Sleep peaking at Number 3, Leona overtakes previous record holder, British-born singer and actress Olivia-Newton John's tally of seven UK Top 5 hits (including 1991’s Grease Megamix and the 1998 re-release of her duet with John Travolta, You’re The One That I Want). Petula Clark, Shirley Bassey, Cilla Black, Geri Halliwell, Jessie J and Ellie Goulding sit in joint third place with six solo UK Top 5s, each.

Ellie will probably be the one to break Leona's record in 2015. I reckon. Well done to Leona though.

Surely that should read 'X Factor' not 'my fans'.

Poor forgotten Billie Piper! She has 6 UK Top 5 hits as well.

Cheryl hasn't been mentioned either - she too has 6 Top 5s.

Forgive Me, Better In Time and Collide all got there without XF performances and then Bleeding Love and Run would have been huge regardless. Stay pressed.

I think Forgive Me is massively under-rated. I LOVE/D it.
Strange that solo British females have such inconsistent singles chart success. Well done to Leona and impressive to see Ellie's total rising quickly, I never expected her to be anything more than a one album wonder, as much as I love her. If anything she's got far bigger this time around, I wonder how long it can last.
Ellie, Jessie and Emeli all have a chance of overtaking her soon - but congrats to her for now!

Ellie has had 3 top 5 hits this year alone and seems to still be getting bigger - I think she'll easily manage to eclipse Leona unless she suddenly decides to stop releasing music. Good for Leona to at least have this record for a while though :P

Although if Olivia was the only person to nominally have 7 before then it's arguable that Leona already broke this record with 'Collide', since 'You're The One That I Want' is counted twice in her tally...

It is a nice achievement but so poor when you look at artists like Kylie Minogue and Madonna who have loads and loads of top 5 hits.

Billie Piper has 7 top 5 hits too I believe, so she tied the record.

Also, I think Leona will get a 9th next year with the release of the lead single to her 4th studio album. With her new mangement, she might even get a 10th (2 pre-album singles).

And Adele

And Adele

Don't think Adele releases stuff regularly enough to be a contender for this, by the time she releases new material (which AFAIA there still isn't a timescale for) the likes of Leona, Ellie and Jessie will probably have extended their lead over her by a few and even then she'll probably only get 1 or 2 top 5 hits from the album. Adele can obviously sell huge amounts of singles but her strength is in high numbers for a couple of songs rather than having lots of hits with similar, lower sales. If that makes sense.

Just looking through the book of Hit Singles and noticed Louise had 6 Top 5 hits so she was tieing with Leona until now, and Cilla Black and 6.

How about you grow up and learn to articulate yourself better than 'stay pressed'.

Agreed

I can only count 6 for Louise? Billie had 7 though, if you count the one she had as part of 'Steps, Tina Cousins, Cleopatra, B*Witched And Billie'.

You're right, checked again and it is indeed 6 for Louise
