This album is ok. But that's about as far as it gets for me. 'Praying', 'Let 'Em Talk' and 'Learn To Let Go' are my faves. Really don't see the fuss with 'Boots' at all though. 🙃

Boots didn't stick out for me either on my first listen!

The pre-release day tracks are probably the best ones, Hymn definitely grew on me when listening to the album as well.

I love how you can really tell making this album was a cathartic process for her after everything she went through. It's an honest, soul-baring, no holds barred ode to overcoming your demons and finding a light in the darkness, and that's something which really resonates with me.

I have referred to her as my spirit animal a few times before, and this quantifies why. Not just a feminist hero, but a hero full stop.

I did enjoy my listen through of this but I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed based on the strength of the promo singles. Woman, Learn to Let go and Praying are much, much, much stronger tracks than anything else on the album to be honest. It definitely could have done with cutting a few singles out too, 14 tracks ended up dragging a bit for me.

I was excited to listen to Boots because of so many people listing it as a highlight but I found that one of the messiest tracks on the album. My favourites that I hadn't heard beforehand were Old Flames (Dolly and Kesha's voices work really nicely together and it builds really well as the track goes on!) and Spaceship which is really nice album closer in my opinion.

I'll give it a few listens before I completely write it off but I don't see myself going back to a lot of the tracks outside of the promo singles this time next year.

Can we just appreciate the amazingness that is Hunt You Down pls
The album isn't anywhere near as good as her others, as the songs are a bit half baked if you strip away what's so good about the album which is her heart, and unapologetic sense of self. It's quite freeing to hear the album, but I don't think I'd be giving it as much time if it weren't Kesha.

As I tweeted yesterday, Boots is a demented country-pop BANGER that could easily fit into Gaga's discography. It's like an amalgamation of John Wayne, Americano, Alejandri and Dancin In Circles. A mess yes, but a bloody brilliant one.

Aly

This album is incredible, I love it!

Boots is one of my favourites, I love it!

Let 'Em Talk is really good too and Godzilla is good for the lols

I love this album!

Anyone up for a Kesha singles rate? Thought I'd do one after Selena and Demi went well. We're opening up rates again (see pinned thread) and I think she is a prime candidate to kick us off.
Think this really works well to put on as an album, like Rihanna's Anti. Different from what her first two albums were, but she'd been promising something different since Animal anyway so this is just her delivering a bit later.

I don't know, but I don't think it's that different from her other albums as much as it's a progression - I mean, Dirty Love could easily be on this album. It's more that Dr Puke isn't there to push the LOLZIMDRUNK image that seemed to dominate both her past album campaigns. I doubt he'd ever let her release a song like Praying (aside from the obvious reasons)...

Yes, think a rate would be great!

yaaaas bish idg how this was only a Japanese bonus track

Predicted to bow in at the top position in the US with 110-115k sold

I'm sure Dr Puke is happy for her. :arrr:

So in love with 'Emotional'
Sorry if I sound awful but was it ever proven she was right? Looking forward to giving the album a listen either was as I love 'Praying'
Kesha is #1 in the US with an estimated 119k sold per HDD - Billboard tend to adjust those numbers, but it's a great result for her considering Praying still seems to be taking off :cheer:
Warrior is 19 copies away from passing 40k in the UK! People need to go out and buy it and stream it.

PLEASE.

Though it would be the hardest rate ever as I love literally all the singles she's put out

This album has been really growing on me since I first listened to it, and I felt like I had to state that. I quite enjoyed it on first listen but thought (as I did with 'Praying') that it wouldn't be something I'd come back to a lot. Actually though, I've found it really tempting to listen to and really easy to play as an album. The sequencing is so smooth and the genre/tone changes feel so comfortable. It's tough for me to say how I'd feel about the album if it was stripped away from its context but I don't think that really matters, because without the context this album wouldn't exist. In the world the album exists in, it's a really affecting and uplifting listen.

I think she's hit everything she needed to hit with this album and it really works as an "authentic" Kesha album. Animal's DNA manages to express itself so much here which really took me by surprise - it would have been fairly understandable if this felt like it was released by a completely different artist to everything released under Ke$ha, but the continuity is actually there despite the vastly different soundscape, topics discussed and just the sheer length between albums. Kesha was always able to bounce between fun and serious and the only real difference here is the ratio changing up.

Being frank I'd rather not get a very similar to this album from her in future but that's only because I think it would be redundant and that doesn't mean I want another Animal/Warrior either. I'm excited to see where she goes next because I'm pretty confident I can get on board with Kesha doing anything at this point.
