December 29, 201312 yr So are they not doing a chart of the year at all? No... its the official top 40
December 29, 201312 yr It's not being advertised as a chart of the year, just a normal rundown with a 5 minute feature from Danny Howard mixing all the big hits of the year. That's a bit of a drastic change. From a whole day devoted to doing the year-end top 150, to a 5 minute mix at the end of the chart show.
December 29, 201312 yr Oh wow, 10 years since Atomic Kitten's Ladies Night cover :o Now *I* feel old. The 2004 retro's are really going to tell me I'm old as this was the time I started going out clubbing, etc.... But looking forward to remembering all the hits at the same time. :)
December 29, 201312 yr How were the first two posts made on Friday?! They were started in our prep area, then moved to here.
December 29, 201312 yr Someone Like me says goodbye to all of you :) THIS. Someone Like Me is probably my favourite but I really do like each and every AK single. I wish they'd actually make some new music now they're done with The Big Reunion :(

December 29, 201312 yr For the final "Random Retro" (at least for a while) it's back to the first chart dated in the 1980s. Week Ending : 05/01/1980 1 (1) Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall 2 (2) Abba - I Have A Dream 3 (4) Fiddler's Dram - Day Trip To Bangor 4 (5) Tourists - I Only Want To Be With You 5 (10) Pretenders - Brass In Pocket 6 (7) Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime 7 (6) Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight 8 (3) Police - Walking On The Moon 9 (8) Gibson Brothers - Que Sera Mi Vida (If You Should Go) 10 (9) Three Degrees - My Simple Heart Pink Floyd have always been an "albums act", before this they had a couple of entries on the singles chart in the late 60s, but nothing at all in the 70s despite albums such as "The Dark Side Of The Moon" and "Wish You Were Here" being huge successes. "Another Brick In The Wall", may well have gone the same way but for it's inventive video at a time when the promo-video format was still in it's infancy (MTV wasn't to launch in the US for another 18 months) and the grotesque headmaster, the marching hammers, reminiscient of 30s Nazi propaganda films, and the "We Don't Need No Education" line, sung by schoolchildren, propelled it all the way to Number 1. In the runner-up spot was another song to feature a group of children, Abba's "I Have A Dream". Not (in my opinion) one of their strongest songs, but still million times better than the Westlife cover version Fiddler's Dram's novelty folk-hit thankfully got no higher than number three, while we have a cover version at 4, but a decent update of the Dusty Springfield hit from 1963. The Tourists of course were centred around Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart, who went on to become the Eurythmics. This was the Tourists' first push down a commercial route after a couple of excellent originals had got to numbers 52 & 32 respectively. They would soon back to original songs and made some of the 80s most interesting tracks in the Eurythmics-guise Anglo-American outfit the Pretenders seemed to be Chrissie Hynde and a backing group rather than a true unified outfit, but hit paydirt (like the Tourists after two very small hits) with "Brass In Pocket" which would later rise to number one. Two members would unfortunately be dead within 3 years. "Simply having a wonderful Christmastime" - almost everyone knows the line from Paul McCartney's Christmas 1979 hit. Number six was as high as it got before taking the traditional post-Christmas fast-track exit for festive songs, returning to the lower reaches of the charts on a couple of occasions since. The first rap track to make the UK top 5 was at number 7. The Sugarhill Gang, named after what would become the Sugarhill record label were a trio from New Jersey whose hit was based around a sample of Chic's "Good Times". An excellent 7" single, the 12" extended to nearly 15 minutes and was got boring long before the end. The Police should need no introduction, they were just about the biggest name around at the time, with "Walking On The Moon" being the second of their 5 number ones (to go with 6 number one albums) Disco corner completes the top 10, the Gibson Brothers were a French-based trio of brothers from Martinique whose salsa-esque style earned them half a dozen hits, while the Three Degrees (at the time known for being Prince Charles' favourite group) were a Philadelphia-sound creation who moved into disco in the late 70s and further lurched into saccharine ballads once disco had run it's course Other selected climbers/new entries 11 (12) Michael Jackson - Off The Wall 13 (12) David Bowie - John, I'm Only Dancing (Again) 13 (25) Elvis Presley - It Won't Seem Like Christmas Without You 20 (28) KC & The Sunshine Band - Please Don't Go 21 (32) Chic - My Forbidden Lover 24 (43) Billy Preston & Syreeta - With You I'm Born Again 40 (73) Nolans - I'm In The Mood For Dancing 49 (61) Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird EP 50 (67) Fleetwood Mac - Sara 54 (NE) Madness - My Girl 58 (NE) Dr Hook - Better Love Next Time 61 (NE) Bee Gees - Spirits (Having Flown) 69 (NE) Styx - Babe 72 (NE) Jon & Vangelis - I Hear You Now

December 29, 201312 yr 40 Jessie J - It's My Party [D] http://a3.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music4/v4/d0/ab/2e/d0ab2eaa-9efa-9eb7-73df-737bdad4aacc/13UAAIM67484.170x170-75.jpg Chart Run: 3-9-17-26-35-49-59-68-xx(6 wks)-40 [9 wks] Release date: 15-09-2013 Format: download only single Label: Universal Music Sales: 100k+ Video here: 59caVlKNNEQ Biography Combining the vocal prowess of Beyoncé, the genre-hopping sounds of Gwen Stefani, and the feisty attitude of P!nk, songwriter Jessie J eventually overcame various career setbacks and health problems to become a star in her own right. Born Jessica Cornish in Chadwell Heath, London in 1988, she started her career in showbiz at the age of 11, performing in the West End production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle Down the Wind. After studying musical theater at the prestigious BRITS School, she signed a deal with indie label Gut Records, which went bankrupt before releasing any of her music. Following a minor stroke at age 18, she gained a Sony publishing contract and penned hits for the likes of Chris Brown, Dutch X Factor winner Lisa Lois, and Miley Cyrus (the American number two hit "Party in the USA"). After building up an established online presence, she signed to Universal Records and began working with the likes of hitmaker Dr. Luke (Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson), Atlanta rapper B.o.B, and R&B producer Labrinth on her debut album, Who You Are. In 2010, her first single, "Do It Like a Dude," originally written for Rihanna, reached number 25 in the U.K. charts and, following in the footsteps of Adele, Florence and the Machine, and Ellie Goulding, she was announced as the winner of the Critics Choice Award at the 2011 Brits. That same year, an appearance on Saturday Night Live coincided with her album being reissued in the U.S. Following a tour that took in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Malaysia and her first show in North America, Jessie J became the first UK female solo artist to achieve six top-ten singles from a single studio album. The success of the sixth single “LaserLight”, featuring David Guetta, was aided in no small part by her appearance as judge on the UK edition of The Voice. The hit show gave the singer a chance to display her talent for musical coaching, while building a rapport with fans both old and new on primetime television. Also involved were Tom Jones and Will.I.Am, with whom Jessie J performed at Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Concert in June 2012, before heading back to the studio to work on the follow-up to Who You Are. ~ Jon O'Brien & Daniel Clancy, Rovi / iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2010 02 Do It Like A Dude -1- 2011 01 Price Tag (Jessie J Feat. December 29, 201312 yr Should be an interesting chart to say the least with no midweeks and the week very much split into two halves (Pre-Xmas/Gift card boost), not loving the reappearance of this track at all though.
