I think Cameron was more meaning like, going against what you're most known for sending, for example I have a tendency to send pop-rock entries so i'd be assigned something like trance or d&b. Of course the majority of people do experiment and don't stay in the same genre for every contest, but I think everyone does have that genre that's their safe place or their origin, so it would be more opposing to that. I'd be up for that idea, see how far we can really broaden my musical horizons

I'd love the TV themes one too but I wouldn't make it exclusively anime shows, yes there's a fair amount of anime fans on here but that's not everyone, at least with a generalise TV theme, anime fans can send an anime track if they so wish and everyone else can choose what they like ^_^

new idea;; bjsc covers, remixes and samples edition i.e. songs that are kinda inspired but would get vetoed in the main contest because it contains a well known sample.

Ooh I quite like the idea of a samples spin-off, I think that one could work very well actually! Will definitely add that to the list we have.

While I'm here, the next spin-off will be starting next week which will be hosted by Cameron and a Green Room should appear any day now. I'm hoping you will all La La Love it!

Oh I have a good entry for this if I can actually find it again. Completely forgotten what it was called lol.

After playing some pop punk covers on plug tonight this idea came up (I think it was Lotti initially).... a genre swap spin off where people send pop songs being performed in another genre or even broaden that with a covers spin off, the veto rules would probably need to be near non existent for that though, probably just something like you can send popular/well known songs just not being performed by a popular/well known artist? :o

If this idea were to happen, it wouldn't happen til February, but I thought I'd suggest it now before I forget. You know the way we've had Christmas spin-offs and a Halloween spin-off, I was wondering about a sort of Valentine's Day spin-off? Wouldn't have to just be cheesy love songs (I wouldn't want it to be) and I'm sure it wouldn't just be that, people would experiment for sure, but obviously every song should have a theme that relates somehow to love or relationships, maybe even a break-up, to give it a bit of a twist? *sends 'You Oughta Know'*

A friend of mine also told me about a spin-off that took place on another forum (he won it, yay) where each contestant puts down one artist, and everyone gets randomly assigned one of the artists from the whole bunch and must send a song by whatever artist they get. It sounds like quite a cool idea to me and everyone from BJSC who I've talked to about it has liked it too. I'd prefer not to host though tbh  Thought it was worth suggesting it here anyway if someone else would like to take over?

Ooh yay, I forgot I suggested this idea, I still stand by this one as well (probably more so). I'd probably/hopefully be willing to host one of these actually.

Looking forward to this upcoming spin-off, whatever it may be ^_^

Is cats vs. dogs off the table now Lotti has been drafted into a different spinoff :'(

I'll just host instrumentals then, when that finally happens in like 2019. :D :kink:

(Duets sounds like a pretty good idea, surprised that wasn't suggested before actually! Unless it was.)

cats vs dogs to happen anytime soon?

also the idea just occurred to me: The Go Green Contest, where you have to self-recycle an artist you've sent before. I've got so many good songs by artists I've previously sent to main contests so this would suit me well :heehee:

This for definite! :cheer:

don't only like 10-15 people in the contest actually like country music though? just seems a bit too niche but that may be my anti-country bias talking.
Tbh I don't really see the problem with having the occasional slightly more niche spinoff. I say this because I'm still pushing for an instrumental spinoff which wouldn't be a lot more popular than a country one :kink:

Well this is an idea that just has come to my head so bear with me, but seeing as we would have a new spin-off in September and then a month-gap and then another in November. How about something along the lines of this:

September - Instrumentals

October - Country (or another niche that is completely opposite to the fans of instrumentals)

December - Christmas 3.0 (or something else if we've exhausted all the Christmas songs)

So instead of having a month gap, we would have two consecutive spin-offs but, as they are niches, people would probably only have a desire to enter one of them anyway (but can obviously enter both if they wish). Yet, with them happening so close together, people won't feel left out like they would if we followed the normal schedule and had a niche one in September (therefore if they didn't participate in September's niche, there would have been a big gap from July to November for non-instrumental fans).

Does that make sense? Maybe, maybe not :P

having 2 opposite niche contests next to each other seems like the best idea really if fans of both are to be appeased.

I may even enter the country contest for the bants (and cos my mum likes a few country songs that I think are unknown enough).

I'd rather not have another Halloween or Christmas one this year, those could wait another year or two.

Yeah that sounds good, brilliant in fact for country *.* I agree it's a good thing to have those two niches, because then people can't moan that they have to miss out because of country or instrumentals, I'm sure some will though  But personally while I'd find it hard to participate or vote in an instrumental spin-off, I would LOVE the country spin-off. And I don't mind, actually I'd probably welcome, a month off for the instrumental one. I think I'd get really bored and sit one out anyway if I did ALL the spin-offs and the main contest as well. So yeah, definitely a good idea to have opposing taste spin-offs.
