Posted January 7, 201411 yr This Sunday will be 1 year since Jameela took the helm at the Chart Show. Has it made a difference to the programme.
January 7, 201411 yr I would say yes, the show is not as boring as it used to be because she has added fun to it and she definately makes the last hour of the show more enjoyable. AwUjoHx1MGU
January 7, 201411 yr It hasn't made it better, but at the same time it's not made it worse. She is quite good, but I would prefer the chart show if there were a mix of presenters, so we can hear a range of comments and opinions instead of hearing comments like 'and next up is Same Love, my favourite song!!1', 'can you believe that Burn was Ellie Goulding's first ever UK #1 single? :o :o :o' every week. I'm not saying she shouldn't express her opinion, I just think it gets boring when she says the same things every week, but obviously that can't be helped as the charts aren't very fast-moving and there are only so many things to say. Hearing Dev present it a few days ago was a breath of fresh air imo so some variety would be nice although I can't imagine this ever happening as it's much easier for the station to just hire one presenter. Not so much Jameela's fault but the repetition of interviews (once is enough thank you) and weekly competitions is quite annoying too, this is a chart show, but I do appreciate that R1 are trying to get more listeners and obviously potentially winning tickets to your favourite band/performer is a reason to stay tuned so I don't expect those competitions to go away anytime soon. I also think to make the chart more interesting they shouldn't play the top 3 from the midweek chart at the start of the show as 9 times out of 10 the midweek #1 is the same as the final #1, it's almost as if they're telling you who #1 is at the start of the show.
January 7, 201411 yr I'm with you on the interviews; perhaps I'd even go further and say that once is too much, but they do have an hour to fill with ten records so they do have to drag it out quite a bit. I also think here obsession with pants, and her constant references to anything either very good or very bad as "insane" are quite annoying. However you twist it, I think she is a vast improvement on the guy who was there before, can't even be bothered to type his name in! Dev was OK, but it did sound like he was reading everything off a script and not really adding much in the way of an ad-lib.

I agree with most of that including the fact that rotating presenters is something that is unlikely to happen. The biggest problem is the format of the show which is down to people other than the presenter. An hour is far too long for a top ten on a non-commercial station so they have to pad it out somehow. Some of the interviews are OK while others are terrible. Unfortunately, in quiet weeks when it is hard to conduct new interviews, they have little choice but to repeat interviews although they could have done a rundown of the top ten of the year instead last Sunday. Jameela at least takes more interest in the chart. It used to be the Reggie Yates show featuring the chart whereas it is now the Chart Show presented by Jameela Jamil as it should be. Yes, she makes the odd mistake but at least she generally acknowledges it. I just wish she wouldn't pretend that a Live Lounge performance is more influential than it actually is. That said, at least she doesn't waffle on about X Factor as much as Reggie did.

Don't you love how she adds INSANE in front of everything that isn't insane though? That's one repetition I absolutely love! I agree they shouldn't play the midweek top 3, it spoils the chart for those who don't follow it closely. They should just return to playing the previous Sunday's #1 or nothing at all.
January 7, 201411 yr Don't notice a difference. Although I'm mainly there for the music and just mute it when there's commentary/interviews etc. Edited January 7, 201411 yr by Envoirment
January 7, 201411 yr No - preferred Reggie. Though Scott Mills is the best of the lot; shame he's too old for the permanent gig.
January 7, 201411 yr She doesn't seem to have a clue about the music a lot of the time, and her presenting style is just a bit boring I think. Not a fan.
January 7, 201411 yr No - preferred Reggie. Though Scott Mills is the best of the lot; shame he's too old for the permanent gig. Hmm...I don't know. I think he'll replace Jameela eventually. Scott does the midweek chart with Jameela, and then pre-records the outcome of the midweek chart and T&C's for competitions for the main chart show on Sundays as well as co-hosting the Christmas chart, which leads me to the conclusion that Jameela is keeping the seat warm for when R1 feel it's the right time to take Scott off daytime. Don't forget R1 didn't sack Chris Moyles, they offered him another slot but he refused it. If he didn't he'd very likely still be on R1.
January 7, 201411 yr I quite like her, she doesn't always get her facts right but at least it's not as frequently as Reggie did and she seems more knowledgeable than him too. Plus I quite like her wicked sense of humour (comparing Pitbull to Shakespeare, saying Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Tonight I'm Getting Over You' sounds like a washing machine, openly calling Akon her least favourite person in the world). My only real gripe is she does tend to repeat the same facts about the same tracks every week. Scott Mills would be perfect if he ever took it on full time.
January 7, 201411 yr As much i disliked Reggie Yeates, Jameela Jamil is by far the worst chart show presenter of all time-and yes I include Wes Butters and JK and Joel. I can't stand the way she comes out with tripe like "It's insane how this record keeps on climbing up and up the chart from nowhere"-totally mangled sentences as if her brain is desperately trying to catch up with her mouth. I long for the day when Scott or Greg takes over.

I'd love Scott to do it but I still think it's more likely he'll leave the station altogether in the next couple of years. See what you're saying about Chris, but he was ridiculously popular. They are clearly all about making the chart show appeal to the youth now. But the current format is so ridiculous how they rattle through the 40-11.. yet it still doesn't flow very well or sound like a chart show. Listen to how they did it in the late 80s/early 90s with quick snappy links in-between the songs over an audio bed. Now she either speaks over the song or over dead air and just says something like "I love this band so so much". and then drag out the top 10. Why is it necessary to start with number 10 at 6 o'clock anyway? And as for Jameela. I like her a presenter but she's annoying on the chart show. I like her more than Reggie but she's actually managed to dumb the show down even more than he did. I actually miss JK & Joel now. They don't seem so bad in hindsight! Of course Mark Goodier is still the king. I still listen to his (and Bruno's) old shows and his way is the way to do it. Edited January 7, 201411 yr by AcerBen
January 7, 201411 yr I noticed they didn't start this week's show with a recap of the midweek top 3. Have they finally realised how utterly stupid it is to blow the end result at the beginning, since 90% of the time the #1 ends up being the same. I didn't listen to the whole show so I don't know if he mentioned it later on. Edited January 7, 201411 yr by AcerBen

January 7, 201411 yr I like the chart show with her doing it, although I liked it before too. I don't think it matters that much if she's repetitive. I'm sure all of us have posted the same thing more than once about a song before! I know I do it all the time. I noticed they didn't start this week's show with a recap of the midweek top 3. Instead a better thing for them to do at the beginning of the chart show would be to play 3 new entries in the top 75 that didn't make top 40. Edited January 7, 201411 yr by Eric_Blob

January 7, 201411 yr I think she herself is fine for appealing to a younger audience (although that beggars the question if any of them actually listen), she's far from the best at doing it when they have Scott Mills, but she has some passion for music in the charts (which Reggie never really had). It's the format that needs work, constantly repeating interviews that were never amusing/interesting in the first place and the same old competitions is just getting really stale, saying that I'm not entirely what they can do from here if the audience doesn't turn out like they hoped, its a tough one.
