I don't think Rather Be will have first-week sales like Wake Me Up, because sales are lower in the top 10 atm so you can get there selling less pre-orders. It's a better song though.

The thing with Rather Be is that it's maybe selling less than Wake me Up - the no10 might only sell 20-22k this week but that doesn't make it any less of an impressive achievement.

 

That said the annoying thing about this is that Rather Be could have sold far more with an actual release over the past 3/4 weeks!

I mixed up Dust Clears and Mozart's House :P

 

But can you really call a {17}-27-46 chartrun a hit? Sure it's impressive that they even made the top 40, let alone top 20 but I wouldn't call it a hit.

Regardless of whether or not 'Mozart's House' is classed as a hit or not, it doesn't explain WHY 'Rather Be' has been received so well which was the original point made. I can't say I've heard it more than 'Mozart's House' and they both sound similar so I don't understand why 'Rather Be' has been so much more successful.

This is what I've been thinking. Most likely to be over 100k but I don't think it will top 200k.

It must have at least 50k pre orders already so it should clear 100k by the end of Monday, I can see it selling 180k at the least.

Peak positions according to the iTunes chart thread updates. In reality peaks could've been higher but it's still a good indication.

Strange to see some songs on there that completely missed the top 100 (Gaz/Olabean, Lil' Chris) when usually top 200 on pre-orders is practically guaranteed top 10 - though it's quite easy to distinguish between those that are likely to be big hits and those that just shift a lot of pre-orders and not much else, so I don't think that discredits the general trend, just shows you need to apply a bit of common sense.

 

(There are some more unexpected exceptions though, like Laura Mvula and All About She, so it's not a perfect predictor but a good enough one).

 

Didn't notice Duke Dumont's pre-order ever getting that high incidentally!

I'm coming out of nowhere but I had no idea Clean Bandit were doing so well on pre-orders!

I am SO over the moon, they are SO amazing and most of their previous songs got unfairly unnoticed.

Such a BRILLANT band finally making it big, I'm so happy. :cheer:

I saw the end of Clean Bandit's set in Nottingham last year, it was pretty good.

When Clean Bandit got to #22 i was like wow and now im like

Well the song is by far the best thing around at the moment and I've heard quite a few people speaking highly of it so I'm not too surprised.

Not as surprised at Lorde's 'Team' not doing much so far but even so it's all the way down at #160, quite terrible in this sales environment :( And it is on both the R1 and Capital playlists now so it doesn't even have the 'no airplay' excuse.
