Single & Album Summary

Another week of some big new releases as will.i.am, Gorgon City and Katy B are all heading for the Top 5. However it doesn't look enough to be able to top Clean Bandit so it seems they'll be remaining at #1 for a second week. Lower down, Chris Malinchak are looking to enter the Top 20 whilst Katy Perry's new single 'Dark Horse' and, thanks to a Facebook campaign, The Weather Girls' 'It's Raining Me' are both looking to re-enter the Top 40.

It's a good week for rock/metal bands in the albums this week as You Me at Six are heading for their first #1, whilst Of Mice and Men are looking to make the chart for the first time. Elsewhere, look out for entries from Ásgeir, The Rifles, Sheryl Crow and Skindred.

Midweek Charts: You Me At Six to give revived BMG first UK No 1

Source: MW

by Paul Williams

You Me At Six are set to give BMG a first UK No 1 album under its present incarnation.

The UK group’s fourth album Cavalier Youth, released in a label services deal with the German company, is currently leading the midweek listings by around 15,000 sales and looks poised to top the chart this weekend.

It is You Me At Six’s first album with BMG with their previous two having come out through Virgin Records. These include their previous release Sinners Never Sleep, which in 2011 reached No 3, their highest peak to date.

Official Charts Company data shows Cavalier Youth is one of four independent titles in the latest Sales Flashes Top 10. The others include US metal core band Of Mice & Men's third album Restoring Force, which is new at 6 in the midweeks. Released on the Rise Records label, it follows their previous two efforts failing to chart at all in the UK.

The indie Top 10 hand is completed by Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Wanderlust on her own EBGB’s label and Domino act Arctic Monkeys’ AM. Wanderlust is looking to spend a second week at the top table as it declines 4-5 in the midweeks, while AM returns to the Top 10 with a 14-7 climb as sales lift 50% week-on-week. Its progress is helped by some retail discounting, while it also won the pop music award prize at Monday’s South Bank Awards.

Just outside the Top 10, The Rifles register at No 12 with None The Wiser, their fourth album in all and first for Cooking Vinyl. It looks likely to become their highest-charting album yet with the group's current best peak No 27, achieved in 2009 with Great Escape on the Warner-owned sixsevenine label.

Polydor act Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon returned to No 1 last Sunday, but is back down to No 2 in the week so far. Beyonce’s self-titled RCA-handled album holds at No 3 and Postiva/PRMD signing Avicii’s True moves up 5-4 with sales improving 20%.

Bastille’s Virgin-issued Bad Blood drops 7-8, while Bruce Springsteen’s Columbia set High Hopes falls 2-9 and Virgin act Lorde's Pure Heroine moves back up 16-10 with its sales increasing 60%.

Brand new entries outside the Top 10 include Newport band Skindred’s fifth album Kill The Power, released on the Doublecross label via Cooking Vinyl, which registers at No 15 in the week so far. Also debuting are albums from Inside Out/Century Media’s Transatlantic, One Little Indian-signed Asgeir, Warner Bros’s Sheryl Crow, veterans Paul Rodgers (The Royal Sessions on Savoy/Fontana) and David Crosby (Cruz on indie Blue Castle) and Gaslight Anthem with a B-sides collection issued by Side One Dummy.

Meanwhile, sales of Parlophone act Tinie Tempah’s Demonstration album are up 121% on the week to lift it 43-22 after he chatted and performed last Saturday on Jonathan Ross’s ITV show.

Midweek Charts update: Clean Bandit heading for another 100,000 sales

Source: MW

Paul Williams

Clean Bandit's Rather Be is on course to sell 100,000 copies for a second consecutive week and top the UK singles chart again.

The Atlantic single featuring Jess Glynne had sold around 95,000 copies by the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company, having debuted at No 1 last Sunday with 162,801 sales.

It is currently nearly 20,000 sales ahead of Feelin' Myself, the new single by Interscope/Polydor's will.i.am and featuring Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and French Montana, which initially led the market but now registers as a new entry at No 2 on the latest midweeks.

There are two other brand new singles in the current top five sellers with Virgin act Gorgon City's Ready For Your Love featuring MNEK new at 3 and Rinse/Columbia's Katy B at 5 with Crying For No Reason. The RCA-handled Happy by Pharrell Williams completes the top five, dropping 2-4.

You Me At Six will this Sunday score their first No 1 album and a first for BMG Rights with Cavalier Youth presenly outselling its two nearest rivals combined. These are Polydor act Ellie Goudling's Halycon, which drops 1-2, and Beyonce's self-titled album handled by RCA, which holds at 3.

Eminen's Interscope/Polydor set The Marshall Mathers LP 2 emphatically moves back into the Top 10, climbing 22-7 with sales up 55%. while Lorde's Virgin debut Pure Heroine lifts 16-8 and Metal & Dust/Ministry of Sound act London Grammar's If You Wait is up 11-9.

Will.i.am IS looking likely to top clean bandit

He's no longer #1 combined on iTunes so I wouldn't say so.

He's no longer #1 combined on iTunes so I wouldn't say so.

Oh yes, I see. Not that that's a bad thing lol

The Weather Girls' 'It's Raining Me' are both looking to re-enter the Top 40.

HA :heehee:

I'm usually against facebook campaigns affecting the charts, but I'm all for 'It's Raining Men' as a slap in the face to the idiot, homophobic UKIP MP.

* 'It's Raining Me'

Looks like I was wrong yet again and Will.I.am's going to be higher than Katy and Gorgon City...what a travesty but as long as Katy gets that top 5 and Clean Bandit get 2 weeks at number one that's all I'm bothered about

I would love to hear Jameela introduce The Weather Girls on the show on Sunday, that would be hilarious!! Lets get it top 40!

I'm crying because Katy is lower than will.i.am and Gordon City
Another week of some big new releases as will.i.am, Gordon City and Katy B are all heading for the Top 5.
It's Gorgon City :P (Unless it's a reference I'm not aware of... if so, never mind!)

In which constituency do you think UKIP has an MP?

:-O

They have a number of MEPs, which is somewhat ironic, to say the least......
