What CD Packaging do you prefer.

What extras would you like to have with the CD to make it worth buying, postcards, photos, posters etc etc

I usually prefer the gatefold sleeves as I find it more presentable, with a colourful booklet sometimes as I prefer physical albums. The only thing its a struggle to get the CD out, without tearing the sleeve.

I hate if I get lumbered with a cardboard case...

1. Because I have to replace it with a proper one myself.

2. Because I would just have downloaded it, if I'd known...

I wish they'd bring back the super-jewel cases with the round edges. They helped improve even the ugliest artwork.

Gatefold sleeves (which is probably why i buy all of Kanye's albums in CD format because of the nice colourful and presentable packaging he gives us). :yahoo:

With Kanye the artwork is nearly always immaculate.

The "deluxe" edition of the new Elbow album appears to be exactly the same as the standard edition apart from the sleeve. That is certainly not worth paying an extra three quid. I would have expected Elbow, more than most bands, to stay well clear of that sort of rip-off.
I don't mind, but at least jewel cases can be replaced if they get damaged.

Yes the "deluxe jewel box" all the way! Much easier to get booklets out and if the corners got (inevitably) smashed it didn't break the hinges. Miss them (I  2007)

These days I like when the CD is the deluxe edition and has extra tracks. They cost more mostly so this makes sense I hate when there are bonus digital only tracks...

I like having Jewel cases. I don't like the cardboard cases as they get grubby and easily dirty. My Gorillaz Plastic Beach album is a victim sadly. :(
Prefer a plastic jewel case. Hate the cardboard ones whee the cd has to be slid out as they scratch over time. Not too bad if it's a cardboard case with a tray still for the cd to lie in and not slide in and out.

I always suspected they'd scratch as much as I like them, see VC and Coldplay's DAAHF. Any way to prevent sratchin?

Not really. I sometimes transfer them to a jewel case but keep the cardboard one too. Empty jewel cases can be bought fairly cheaply in 5's or 10's usually. Tesco have them.

That's a shame as I really like cardboard cases, it always makes it look like the music is what's important, not the styling, though the artwork usually looks better on cardboard cases.

Particularly his last album; 'Yeezus' had phenominal artwork. :P

Gatefold cases or the cardboard cases with the plastic trays in are my preferred option, they look less cheap/tacky than the standard jewel cases imo. I did used to also prefer the super-jewel box (as someone mentioned previously), they seemed less prone to breakage than the standard jewel cases!

I'm also on the constant hunt for new CD single cases to replace broken ones, though I've decided I'm gonna stop collecting them now as 1) they're worthless and 2) they use up too much space. I just REALLY want some new ones to replace my dirty/broken Feeder cases. :(

Nowadays I buy CDs of deluxe editions for packaging and extra only to keep my collection complete. I don't even put the CDs into the player but shelves. I'd say I prefer digipacks (paper case with plastic tray) with a slipcase if possible. They are much nicer than the full plastic covers, but vulnerable as well. As I don't move/touch them, I don't care ;)
It's all about vinyl records

I'm a sucker for a pretty vinyl even though I have nothing to play them on :w00t:

I like cardboard cases that are like Macklemore's album, where there is still the plastic tray inside.

I'm pretty sure when Sheryl Crow went all green and save the planet her Detours album was made of recycled card.
