March 26, 201412 yr tbh it's quite sad to see songs supposedly going to number 1 like this, this is not really a true reflection of music right now. Can you honestly say deep down in your hearts that She Looks So Perfect is the most symbolic song in music right now? what happened to the days when #1 songs signified a specific time in life or in a particular season or year? It seems all you need now are a load of screaming teenage girls and your instantly number 1. The UK chart is losing it's heart and soul imo.
March 26, 201412 yr Ooh another thing you can be proved wrong on :D If they do sign on, we can ban Abdul Fareek for a year :D
March 26, 201412 yr You don't need heart and soul for a song to be the most bought song of the week. :P That's why I'm so against the phrase "non #1", because yeah, some #1s don't sell what we *expect* for a #1 these days, but a #1 isn't based on overall sales or chart runs, it's based on the fact that it was the most bought song of the week (multi-buying and teenage girls involved or not)... Besides, you won't like every #1. I didn't like Happy returning to #1 for the gazillionth time but oh well. Gotta cope with it.
March 26, 201412 yr They've become big by playing as a 1D support act AFAIA, but that still leaves the question of A) how did they get that gig in the first place and B) how did that translate into enough support to get their EP pre-order to #1 before the song had premiered... with their DEBUT single? (Also C) what the hell did they perform as a 1D support act when they had no songs? Just covers? :P) No doubt some shadowy social media marketing group, with a large budget, has been peddling them hard through Youtube, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, etc... Technically most of 5SOS's sales are not actually from this week, but from the last month or so... :P

Since when did the charts represent what's going on in music right now? Music is so much more than what is sold on iTunes. It's a thriving, amazing place where bands and individuals all over the world make music that doesn't even get recorded. The charts, especially the singles chart are a barometer of what sells combined with the factor of effective promotion.

March 26, 201412 yr The Beatles? Elvis Presley? :P With The Beatles & Elvis Presley it was a much broader appeal, even to this day many people of different backgrounds, cultures and ages like their music. They didn't just say "hey girl buy my single and I'll follow you on instagram" or anything of the like. They worked hard at their craft for many years putting out music as their passion and not just to be #1 for one week.

Random boy bands have been appealing for years and getting flash in the pan number 1s (New Kids on the Block, Bros, Westlife, McFly, Busted, countless others). This is nothing new (sadly). I would much prefer dance number 1s, but its all down to mass appeal and marketing at the end of the day.
March 26, 201412 yr heart and soul There's a brilliant song called Heart & Soul by James Wolf, that I wish could be in the charts.

March 26, 201412 yr This is what my point is. This is part of what is wrong with the UK chart these days. These days? It's always been like that (maybe more prominently since the early 90s, but these sort of acts have always been riding high in the chart since then).

March 26, 201412 yr why is this terrible abdul fareek name being plastered all over this forum? if ever there was something to DETER traffic coming in
March 26, 201412 yr Duke catching up to 5SOS at a rate of less than 1.5k a day then! Will definitely overcome that 45k deficit in four days! In fact, it looks as if I Got U will be lucky to clear 60k this week :o That's a really surprising drop off, I thought it would do another 75k at least this week!
March 26, 201412 yr why is this terrible abdul fareek name being plastered all over this forum? if ever there was something to DETER traffic coming in I think you and I are driving away enough traffic from here as it is. Edited March 26, 201412 yr by Eric_Blob
March 26, 201412 yr why is this wonderful abdul fareek name being plastered all over this forum? if ever there was something to ENCOURAGE traffic coming in tbh I don't know why either. I just logged in to Buzzjack when I came home from work clicked on my name and randomly saw loads of new visitors to my profile then I saw my name get mentioned for no apparent reason by someone here.

The 'apparent' reason is you promised to allow yourself a ban for a month if this goes to #1 on Sunday.
March 26, 201412 yr The 'apparent' reason is you promised to allow yourself a ban for a month if this goes to #1 on Sunday. There's a difference between the word "willing" and "promise".
