Now that I've slept and I'm a bit calmer, I can say that it's my fave Gaga

video of all time. It's funny (Andy Cohen and the Real Housewives), sexy (the f***ing costumes OMFG), poetic (the ARTPOP beginning) and beautiful

(Hearst Castle is an amazing place, I would love to visit one day!). Gaga did a phenomenal job in and behind the video imo. In terms of being visually stunning at its finest, this music video easily takes the top of the cake. It's literally her eye-popping art extravaganza that's comparable to 'Bad Romance'. And moments like this remind me why I'm a fan of her: she always brings her A-game in the midst of criticisms. A perfect 10/10!

I'm so obsessed, is there not a way of downloading this video? I actually had to annoy my neighbours to watch it on their PC cause VEVO doesn't work on my phone? Can someone help me please? On another note I also love that there is a sense of simplicity in the message, that the ideas of art and pop together are translated in such an upfront manner. This video had, HANDS DOWN, THE MOST FLAWLESS VISUALS AND CINEMATOGRAPHY EVER. I will even stan for those f***ing credits because the standard of this video needs all the damn recognition it can get. This has made my whole entire year seem worth living for http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ed2305b7.png

Was that all?

Only Gaga can give ALL OF THAT in ~6 minutes and people still demanding more

think my big problem with her is she just tries to do too many things at once - every single time it's like everything WITH the kitchen sink: musically, artistically... she's far too eclectic with her ideas. it's obviously good to be creative, but part of being a good artist is knowing what parts to use to make a coherent and consistent vision, not use every single idea that comes in your head.

I agree to an extent, but we've surely come to realise/expect that that's her thing now. Like when she stripped it all back with TEOG she was universally bashed for it. I frankly wouldn't have it any other way. I'd rather an artist took inspiration from anywhere and everywhere that excited her and poured it into her work. I need an artist that tries even if they don't always succeed, i suppose.

Not a bad video. I'm more or less over her now though

Weren't you madly in love with ARTPOP when it first came out? What changed

My interpretation of the video is that her people are fighting for money and care little for her, leave her exhausted and for death and it's her fanbase that revive her and she takes revenge by literally cutting out the big bosses that are ruining her?

Yes  That's exactly what i got from it too.

Like tackling similar issues with the 'Marry The Night' but much more fun and tongue-and-cheek.

Bal you obviously didn't get the other half of my message on MSN because I woke up to "hoe"... :kink:

I'm not really keen on the beginning of the video (both 'ARTPOP' and 'Venus'). But as soon as it slides into 'G.U.Y', omg. What a stunning video. It's a bit random at points, but really stunning visually and definitely one of her best pieces of work

Apparently the reason why the housewives are in it is because Gaga's label refused to fund the music video, so NBC agreed as long as they could get the premiere and the housewives appear in the video.

ARTPOP clicked with me when I lived for Do What U Want and when it talked about some stuff that was occuring in my life. Now those days are over, for me the album reads as someone trying to use a recording studio for a first time.

i loved the edge of glory video :( but that was her doing minimal which is yet another extreme. it's just not her thing to sit in the middle!

I really like the video on first couple of plays through, it has definitely made me realise that G.U.Y works rather better as a stand alone single than I initially thought it would.

so many questions lmao

that acting at the beginning lmao not her best trait

that lego bust ripoff - i can't remember whose artwork it is but she wasn't even trying to conceal that one. maybe she bought it from him to use in the video? idk.

real housewives / andy cohen???? what??????

i feel like the choreography is always the same as well. she seems to think that for choreography it always needs to be fast and have her jerking around like she does every other time... she should've slowed it down and made it more sensual this time instead of trying to seizure.

that aside - the G.U.Y section is fabulously done. really glossy, and lots going on. a decent watch.

I believe it was Nathan Sawaya, I wrote about him in College.

Anyway, pretty terrible video. She throws everything in but the iamspamamispamwhoamspam sink and it just looks like a mess. She really has lost it. You know you've gone down the shitter when a DOG who appears for no more than a few seconds is the best bit of a 6 odd minute video.

Meh. Style over substance. A pig in lipstick is still a pig. And so on...
Meh. Style over substance. A pig in lipstick is still a pig. And so on...

That makes absolutely no sense at all.

The video has a clear message. It's not some throwaway pop music video, despite the humour, bright colours and outlandish set pieces. Underneath that, there's a linear story regarding her recent problems with her management. This ties in perfectly with the meaning of the actual song - just because she hasn't been the one calling all the shots all of the time, that's ok because she's really the one in charge, from a seemingly submissive position. It works perfectly.

I'm not really sure exactly what you were looking for in terms of substance. As far as actual meaning and real commentary on things that are happening outside of the music video, she's really got it all in there.

Of all the criticism people could come up with, no substance is not one that can be used in this situation.

I think "style over substance" is just the generic thing to say to everything she does now so i'm not surprised at the comment even if it is wildly reaching :P

Completely agree with your analysis, but some have their minds made up already ;D

The Secret Society is known as G.U.Y. - girl under you. She's under you (no longer at the top of the music industry) but she's in control and powerful. Gaga and her idea of society - you don't need to be on top to be powerful in the artistic sphere, in relationships and in the music industry. The Price of Commercialism is the death of ART. Gaga has crash landed. She was a soaring phoenix during the incipient years of her rise in the pop industry. With her streaks of number 1s on the pop charts, that night she won 10 VMAs and winning multiple Grammys. She was also a cultural juggernaut. However, after Born This Way, an injury and being cast out, she is left to die by those who only used her for money. The know that she is a money maker, however they don't care about her.

ART lies DEAD under the money of the men of the music industry. Pop reigns supreme. But a hybrid can withstand these things Gaga's struggle to her feet reflects her solitude in the battle to be herself in a world where men only want to use her for money. Venus, love and the need to rebirth Neptune Pool is a cesspool for creativity. The HAUS and embryonic creative space bring her and heal her mind and soul - giving her the opportunity to rebirth from a safe space. It is both a funeral to lay to rest the pain of the past and a state of rebirth. While she's rebirthing and absent from the music industry, it is taken over by RHOBH like artists - A commentary on mindless money making hollow music. Appear awkward, glitz and glam while faux playing instruments. It is a commentary on shoving mindless and substance-less music down people's throats. If I'm rich, if I can afford it, put me in a music video and make me look musical and professional. It is intentionally awkward. They would know that the blonde lady is playing the chello in the wrong position. REBIRTH/Neptune Pool/Visual Filler Dance scene, fashion, scenic crane shots - what a music video should be.

Then there's the room full of rebirthed "Saints" "Philosophers" "Musical Icons"/ Cloning. There is a reference to Minecraft "/gamemode ARTPOP" (and previously Andy Cohen and the RHOBH - a show Gaga has professed to love). These together could represent elements of Gaga's hobbies during the time of her injury. They are interspersed as comical and interesting parts of her personal life. They take the DNA of Jesus (Love, Powerful, Wisdom), Ghandi, (Love, Wisdom), MJ (Talent, Love) and create a society of those who serve art (men in black suits). It is interesting to note that Ghandi, MJ and Jesus were all betrayed by the people they served. There is a duality here, Gaga could be talking about the love and compassion she spreads with her Little Monsters. Taking over the industry, Gaga blasts money to distract the money hungry music machine. With that opportunity, she uses it to push art, love and compassion into the industry. She removes the management from before. The reign of the money machine is over. The world is now safe for her little monsters and people to leave the castle. For ART and POP to belong together.
