Posted April 10, 201411 yr So yeah, it's now been 10 years since digital music became popular - and to celebrate, Radio 1 will be counting down the top 100 biggest selling downloads of all time from 12 - 7 PM on Easter Monday, with presenters including Fearne Cotton, Scott Mills and Jameela Jamil. Also, Now will be releasing a compilation with some of the biggest selling downloads and MTV will be doing a few countdowns. Source
April 10, 201411 yr Which will be a completely misleading list as it'll be heavily biased towards the last three years or so and turn into a Pharrell Williams lovefest in the last ten minutes.
April 10, 201411 yr Songs from before 2009 are going to struggle to get in. For example, Duffy - Mercy was an extremely successful song, but how high in this will it be? I remember they did something like this maybe a couple of years ago, and some weird songs (like Chris Brown - Beautiful People) were higher than some really huge chart hits, but because they were released in a year with high sales. Bets on how many songs by Rihanna is included, I'm going for 10. Umbrella (it'll be disturbing if this doesn't make it), Only Girl, We Found Love, What's My Name?, Love the Way You Lie, Diamonds. I think those all sold over 700,000. Edited April 10, 201411 yr by Eric_Blob

Did Umbrella have physical sales as well. I guess given it is over 800k, even if 100k was cds it still should make it. What about Stay, isn't that well over 600k and Monster is too. Depends how low the cut off for #100 is I guess.
April 10, 201411 yr This was probabaly the case throughout the charts history though for varying reasons. Like the singles boom between 1976-84 then the late 80s lul as cds established themselves and so on...
April 10, 201411 yr This was probabaly the case throughout the charts history though for varying reasons. Like the singles boom between 1976-84 then the late 80s lul as cds established themselves and so on... Yeah, that's true tbh. In this case I think it would be more interesting if they did the 10 best-selling downloads from each year, rather than the 100 best-selling overall (which will just be a combination of the year-end top 20s from the past few years with a few older songs thrown in).
April 10, 201411 yr I would love them to list the Top 100 biggest selling classic downloads (pre-2004 maybe?) or even separate charts for the 80s, 90s etc. Journeys' "Don't Stop Believing" and Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" would be top of the lists even though they weren't massive hits first time round.

Yeah, that would be cool. I bet there would be loads of surprises as well.

I'd like to see a list like this too! 'Eye of the Tiger' and 'Sweet Child of Mine' would be high as well (Music Week gave download sales of 518k and 465k respectively last year) and they haven't made the Top 40 in the download era.
April 10, 201411 yr Maybe we could get an updated figure of Leona's "Run", even if it is rounded. :D Last I knew it was on about 823,500 in mid October 2013, but I've no idea how much it might have sold in the last 6 months. I wouldn't be surprised if it's exceeded 830,000 by now though.
April 11, 201411 yr I wish they'd do a chart of the biggest downloads of songs released before downloads were available :(
April 11, 201411 yr From same OCC statement, Performance at the top of the Official Singles Chart is also at its highest level – in 2004, it had taken 50 years for UK fans to push almost 80 singles to million-seller status, but a decade later the number of million-sellers has almost doubled to more than 150. Since there are only 145 official UK million sellers expect more to be revealed. What could they possibly be? Have 6 or 7 catalogue singles just passed the magic million with downloads added on?

Yeah that's true, it's worth a look at any rate!
