For naming and shaming the 15 year-old lad who is being questioned about the murder of the teacher in Leeds. It's ridiculous that he should have anonymity anyway. Apparently The Sun has taken legal advice and it's not illegal to name him before he makes any court appearance. Once he appears in court it would be illegal though.

Disgraceful that anonymity isn't available to anyone who hasn't even been charged yet.

It's a loophole in the law that The Sun has apparently seized upon tonight, to the dismay of all other media outlets who won't reveal his name. I think minors should be named once they're charged, same as adults are named. I do agree with you though, not before they are charged and appear in court.

And your justification for naming him before he's charged, if indeed he is?

At a time when this ghastly rag is arguing against any sort of statutory regulation of the press this has to be an exceptionally stupid act even by their standards.

Well not really as Sky explained they took legal advice and are perfectly within the law and anyway his name was on social media sites. I for one will buy The Sun early tomorrow just to find out his name so more sales looks likely.

The fact that his name has been on social media sites is totally irrelevant. Sky - part-owned by the owners of that squalid publication - may be right in saying they took legal advice but that doesn't alter the fact that it was a totally irresponsible thing to do. Let's hope newsagents decide to play safe and refuse to sell it tomorrow.

Within their rights, I don't see why their move is being questioned? All it is is a matter of exclusivity that newspapers have thrived upon for years - all of the pupils at the school know who has done it, the parents will have been told by their children who done it, the friends of parents will have been told who done it, it's not exactly confidential information at this point?

You didn't give any reason other than saying it's apparently "ridiculous".

What do we gain by knowing his name?

Well many would argue that stabbing a teacher to death is even more irresponsible!

Exactly, so why shouldn't the rest of the country know. All the papers should publish the name and not just The Sun.

Nothing I admit but I'd rather know it. Maybe I'm weird!

Thankfully our justice system doesn't condemn people quite as easily as you.

I'd expect broadsheets will wait until further down the line to broadcast the identity. The only newspapers I expect will try and cash in on the revelation are tabloids.

There's not much point in arguing with someone who comes up with ridiculous statements like that. Don't you think this boy's lawyers' first thoughts will be to try and get the case thrown out of court on the grounds that he cannot get a fair trial? One of these days a case will be dismissed because of the irresponsible behaviour of the press.

So they thought it acceptable to destroy a 15 year olds life? What the hell happened to innocent until proven guilty???? As if I needed more reasons to detest this vile excuse of a 'newspaper'

The Sun really are the worst parasites. Sky News would never criticise them Chris. Surely even you aren't stupid enough not to know that The Sun and British Sky Broadcasting are owned by the same company. (I say owned, BSB is technically an 'associate' in that News Corp have significant influence but do not consolidate it into their group accounts.) You don't chastise the hand that feeds you!

Who gives a flying shit about if it's "Technically legal" or not. It's highly immoral and against this countries high moral standards and the very basis of the justice system in the UK. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. Not 'Innocent until the sun exploits a loophole to name and shame you'.

How is there every supposed to be an unbiased trail of this kid? Whether or not he committed the offence is irrelevant nor as important as a fair trail. If the trail is fair then it is without reproach and the family of this beloved teacher will be able to get closure. With The Sun existing there will be enough disgusting vile hate printed about this kid to poison any pool of jurors and seriously hamper the chances of a truly fair trail. That will allow the kids lawyers oh so many grounds for appeal and mistrials.

Do you even think before you post Chris? Seriously? Don't support this insipid and abhorrent rag by purchasing it tomorrow.

Erm note that I never said who stabbed her to death but it's common knowledge today that she died from multible stab wounds inflicted by a pupil. So how is my statement not factual?

Exactly my thoughts. How is justice being achieved when the Crown can't prosecute because he'd never get a fair trial?
