March 25, 20178 yr I legit cried. Twice. What a great film! Really didn't have that many expectations because, you know, I haven't really watched the Power Rangers in 20 years and I'm in my 30's now, but it really did bring back such fond memories. Define tot the best film I've watched at the cinema since Jurassic Park a couple of years ago!
March 25, 20178 yr It was just what I wanted it to be tbh. I actually really enjoyed it. I think reading the reviews helped a lot because none of the criticisms from them bothered me. I thought the pace was fine and actually enjoyed the scenes premorph more than those after if I'm honest. I'm glad the Rangers finally have personalities and flaws rather than the insufferable do Gooders they once were (which as I said earlier, was fine for a 5 year old in 1994, but won't hook a 28 year old in 2017.)
March 25, 20178 yr Author I really enjoyed it. Whilst there could have been more action I like that it showed back story and the team coming together. It also allows for a potential sequal to go in on the action with potentially only one new character to flesh out. I loved the little nods to the history of the show. Mentioning the main names of other Seasons main cities as parts of Angel Grove was a nice touch. I'm not sure what people were expecting. If you want it to be like the TV show watch the TV show it's still on the air. If like a lot of people you can't see past the end of Mighty Morphin' or even up till the cast change in Season 2 it's on Netflix their are DVD's watch those. There were some interesting editing choices in the movie but it held my attention and I think it hit the right note between being dark enough for an older audience to enjoy and still have some of the humour for the nostalgia factor.
March 26, 20178 yr Apparently it did $15m on Friday alone in the US! That's great for them! :o (and puts it on course to improve on it's original predictions and expectations for the opening weekend)
March 26, 20178 yr I saw it a second time today and it wasn't any better but what I will say is the first 20 minutes are really strong, especially the opening part showing Rita as the green power ranger and all the other ones dying. And meeting the first 3 rangers is done really well. But I found the introduction of the Black and Yellow rangers really clunky and the film kind of loses its way from there on out. I hope it does get a sequel though, because now it's established itself enough for the chance to really improve, plus we'd hopefully get the introduction of Tommy.

If there's a sequel, and I think that's pretty much guaranteed now, that's surely what it would be for. Did you catch the mid-credit scene? I totally agree with you about the first 20 minutes. I loved the prologue so much. It was a much darker introduction than I expected and I'm glad they did that. They needed to tell a bit of backstory to explain the Rita/Zordon relationship and they did it really well. Now that they've done all the groundwork with the characters, a sequel would only really have 2 major players to introduce in Tommy and the new big bad (Lord Zedd perhaps?) so it can probably be more of the movie that some people wanted this one to be. Apparently it did $15m on Friday alone in the US! That's great for them! :o (and puts it on course to improve on it's original predictions and expectations for the opening weekend) Yeah it did just under $15M, including the Thursday night previews. The 1995 movie made around $38M in its first weekend when you adjust for inflation so it's looking at matching that, if not slightly exceeding it. The international numbers will be interesting, as that has to be where they're hoping to make much of their money. I can't see it having much staying power in the US, so it might struggle to get to $100M total there. EDIT: First weekend estimates are in and it's at just over $40M. Brilliant result. I hope it doesn't crash next week though. EDIT 2: I reviewed this for my friend's movie review and podcast site. It's spoiler free. Have a gander http://www.outpost31podcast.com/news-and-r...ler-free-review Edited March 27, 20178 yr by PaulM1983
March 29, 20178 yr I really liked it and enjoyed all the character development, it was during the main action sequence when I started to tune out a bit. It was fun in a similar 'guilty pleasure' sort of way to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. I'd definitely watch a sequel. Would've liked a bit more of Alpha 5 as he was the main source of the humour.
April 1, 20178 yr Nostalgia or not it's just a terrible film. Badly paced, bad writing, clunky action scenes, uninteresting character development and man, the Black Ranger is insufferable. 'I'm so crazy!'. Stop. I'm inclined to agree, sadly. I don't feel like the movie had anything redeeming about it other than the prologue scene and it was swiftly down hill from there.
April 17, 20178 yr this was utterly fabulous & I'm not really a Power Rangers fan at all!! Shocked how much I loved it! (as well as Dacre Montgomery's face to look at :heehee: ) that may have contributed to why it was so good tbh :kink: :kink: Will do a proper review over the next couple of days!
April 19, 20178 yr Oh I don't know, not like at least ten different people have already posted what they think about it ;)
June 1, 20178 yr A sequel might actually still go ahead afterall (and it's really not flopped as much as people thought it would, imo) Tbh, it's done pretty much what I expected since it got announced. http://screenrant.com/power-rangers-2-sequel-toy-sales/ But yeah, thanks to toy sales, a sequel might still happen! :D (Similar to how Disney Pixar keep making 'Cars' movies)
