Well just looking at last weeks top 40 alone I'd say the following are over-rated:

Beyonce

Snow Patrol

Cassie

Pink

The Feeling

Nelly Furtado

Rihanna

Lily Allen

Sandi Thom

Paris Hilton

The Kooks

Keane (Moreso than ANY other listed ... )

Btw it's overrated not overatted ;)

Gnarls barkley, James blunt, arctic monkeys, Keiser chiefs and franz ferdinand

All have good songs and can sing but people make out like they are the best thing ever when they are not.

Thanks, now it's my turn:

Madonna - What is so good with her? Yeah she can bend in half big whoop, she hasnt exactly got a voice on her has she? She's selling millions where as people with better voices arnt doing as good as her

The Beatles - "they changed the world of music" they where a bunch of boys who all needed hair cuts. Everyone talks about them like they where supreme rulers of the world and I dont know what the fuss is.

Keane - They are boring IMO. Hopes and Fears sold really well I think but I would never even touch that album.

Coldplay - Alot of people here and alot (almost all of me mates) love them but I dont see the big deal. There last song sounds the same as the one before that, and the one before that and the one before that!

Dido - The queen of overration (is there such word?) Her voice bores me, everything about her does. Her voice, her songs, BAH thats all I can say. And she managed to do like 2 million albums? wtf? Who is buying her stuff?!

The Bealtes are the best selling band ever and DID change music. Certainly not over-rated, especailly when you compare them to most of today exuces of bands :smoke:

Alothugh i like them, i do find Coldplay very overrated. Also James Blunt :puke2:

Anyone who says The Beatles are overrated is musically retarded.

In 8 years (Nov 1962-Mar 1970) The Beatles released (13 studio albums including one Double album). In those 8 years they sold over 450 million records having a Record 20 US #1 Singles & (at the time) 17 UK #1 singles.

During that period the only act to stop the Beatles having a number 1 album on either side of the Atlantic & they were ....... The Beatles.

Can you imagine any act today getting even remotely close to that level of popularity today?

But much more importantly, they changed the face of popular music, whilst writing their own self-penned material (which with a handful of exceptions Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, etc was unique). Musically they went from writing "four on the floor" MerseyBeat songs like She Loves You, I Saw Her Standing There, Please Please Me, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, etc, to develop the sound of popular music via the music genres of Folk (Norwegian Wood, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away), Psychedelia (most of the Revolver, Sgt Peppers.. & Magical Mystery Tour albums) to Heavy Rock (I Want You, Helter Skelter, Revolution) & classic ballads (Something, Yesterday, Long & Winding Road) whilst utilizing various forms of R&B music (Lady Madonna, Ob-La-Di, Ob La-Da, Got To Get You Into My Life).

There influence on popular music is there to be seen by US Rolling Stone magazine where in 2000, 11 Beatles related albums made the Top100 of the Greatest Albums all-time including 6 in the Top 19. Whilst only two weeks ago the OCC Top100 #1 Albums of all-time contained 12 Beatles related albums in the top 100.

Whilst last years Virgin Radio poll had 38 Beatles related tracks in the Top 500 & 2002 Billboard poll of music artists contained 47 Beatles related tracks in the Top500.

Oh & finally, guess what is the best selling album in the world in the 21st Century?

The answer is The Beatles "1" which has sold 31million copies.

Can you imagine any other act in the world that has created so much great music in just an 8 year period - compare that to ANY act around today & they all come up well short of what The Beatles achieved. Can you imagine of these acts to be just as popular in 40 years time? I don't think so. :drink:

I was just going to write a piece on how the Beatles are clearly not over-rated but I doubt I could express myself any better than that. 100% agree with everything said.

Very well said TIP B)

Yes, indeed. Anyone who doesn't think the Beatles (and Elvis too, obviously) changed the face of modern music is woefully misguided. -_-

Madonna - What is so good with her? Yeah she can bend in half big whoop, she hasnt exactly got a voice on her has she? She's selling millions where as people with better voices arnt doing as good as her

It's not just about the voice with Madonna, for what she may lack in vocal ability she more than makes up for by always being original, fresh and exciting and never samey, and she always has a surprise up her sleeve.

pink is sooo not overrated, she delivers the goods. so why do you think that?

Like Paul and Scotty I agree with absolutely EVERYTHING there! ^_^ Without The Beatles (and Elvis) we wouldn't have ANY of the artists we have today. If The Beatles never what would be considered the most popular music would probably be people like Jamie Cullum and Ronan Keating -_- I can't be bothered to type what I said about Madonna again but Aly said the best of it anyway.. In my opinion the only act I can think of that I would call overated at this moment in time would be Lilly Allen, what's so special about her exactly? Her album is the most average thing I've ever heard yet she thinks she's the great and that slagging off people that have been slagged off 1,000 times makes her even better  "Victoria Beckham is too thin! doesn't that make me look great?" When the whole world has said it over and over again, no  LDN and Smile are the only good songs I've heard from her and I'd be suprised if she's around for long personally.. maybe she should wait until she's more established herself before attacking acts who have established already themselves. -_-

beyonce is hugely over rated,i like robbie williams but some of his stuff is hugly over rated, madonna at times is very over rated also
