That list looks like it's excluding duplicate episodes of the same programme though? Amazing success for Bake Off though!

AFAIK the figures include +1, catch-up, immediate repeats etc. The transmission date / time is merely a reference to the original broadcast.

However the figures are compiled, the success of Bake Off is indeed extraordinary. It's hardly a surprise that it took some time before a broadcaster took the risk and commissioned the programme. What do the people who turned it down think now?

No real surprise at the top 2. The viewing figures for #1 will definitely increase when the ITV HD figures get added.

Yep! Extra channels just means everything apart from the main 5 'terrestrial' channels.

Thanks!

BARB have revealed the Christmas Week overall ratings on their website. Nothing over 10m! :o Mrs Brown's Boys was highest with 9.69m.
To be fair it was a pretty dismal Christmas TV season really, they really need to stop relying on half assed Christmas specials of big shows as the focal point of the schedule. Yeah, some are good, but the best things (imo) on terrestrial were original dramas and comedies like Mapp & Lucia, Esio Trot etc.

That's true, I don't think I watched anything over the Christmas period aside from the soaps (I was interested in Esio Trot though but missed it, was it any good?). I'm not a fan of the likes of Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys but they usually pull in better ratings - last year the latter pulled in 11m along with Doctor Who and Still Open All Hours pulled 12m!

On a related note, I hear Mrs Brown's Boys has been signed to air every Christmas until 2020. :manson:

Sounds about right to be honest. It's utter trash and not even remotely funny, ergo its huge.

Esio Trot was great, very funny, very well acted and utterly charming. You can tell Judi and Dustin are proper pro's and it really lifted what is essentially a simple children's story up to a much higher level.

That sounds rather odd. I don't think even Morecambe and Wise had that long a contract for Christmas specials.

It has a contract for at least 2015 and 2016 but the creator thinks it will be going to at least 2020 :/

Sounds like it could be right up my street! I could imagine it has a rather sophisticated humour as opposed to the silliness of Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys. Judi's always a pleasure to watch in any role she portrays (can't say I remember watching any of Dustin's films aside Little Fockers but I've no doubt he's great too).

I didn't read the article, just saw the headline and that was enough to put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day! :P

All those programmes underlined contain links to the threads for that programme for anyone who wishes to discuss that show further!

An all BBC One Top 10 then and unsurprisingly high ratings for the much-talked about Top Gear specials!

I'd like to draw particular attention to 'The Haunting of Radcliffe House' on Channel 5. I didn't watch it myself but it's high rating (considering it's a one off special showing on a Saturday night) shows there is demand for horror on TV!

Frozen also making a unsurprising high rating for Sky Movies!

BBC's 30th most watched programme rated 5 million so they had a very high ratings week.

That's really poor for Downton. I've not tracked its ratings for some time, but I was expecting 8 million or so. It seems that nearly everything was on the low side though, so I guess it was no different.

That's really poor for Downton. I've not tracked its ratings for some time, but I was expecting 8 million or so. It seems that nearly everything was on the low side though, so I guess it was no different.

In the recent series, it regularly topped ITV's ratings and was in the overall Top 10, having around 9 million viewers. I don't know what the Christmas special was against last year, but I'm guessing the clash with Eastenders this year is what heavily contributed to the fairly low figure considering the hype around EE.

That's a valid reason for EE winning on the night but Downton might have been expected to make up a lot of the gap on catch-up services. After all, anyone wanting to watch both would have saved a lot of time by watching EE at the time and then skipping all the adverts when watching Downton.

That is true! I had forgotton about catch-up services. It seems to me though that ITV don't generally benefit as greatly as the BBC do in the final figures in regards to increases.
