The thing is they claim to still not count instant grat sales on the Sunday before the album release, this is just never actually enforced (the only time it ever was enforced was with Eminem's 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' which came out on a Tuesday and its songs had their Sunday/Monday sales excluded). Most of the time it makes no difference at all but on this occasion it could potentially decide the #1.

'Sing' now has a 67% lead and I reckon will probably go back to number one. Poor 'Gecko'. :(
That is really cheeky, surely a lot of people are going to notice Sing bounce back to No.1 with a massive sales increase and wonder what the hell has happened/realise that it hasn't got back there in a legit way? The instant grat rules really need tightening up, those two 1D top 40 hits on the album release week shouldn't have happened last year either.

this is why I think OCC cannot tell the difference between Sunday and Monday sales. iTunes must send both days' sales on Tuesday morning so OCC can compile midweeks.

I guess we'll really know the story when the midweeks arrive, because if the OCC can know which sales were on Sunday and which were on Monday, then they would definitely make Ed Sheeran's Sunday sales ineligible especially if it could be the deciding factor in the week's #1 single.

Why even are albums released on a monday? Surely they miss out on a day's sales?

"Sing" right now is in the same boat as Ed's previous instant grats. It's #1 on the iTunes singles chart because it's being automatically downloaded due to album pre-orders. Tomorrow, all those album pre-orders will be completed and all the single tracks sold will be gone. For "Sing" only actual single-song purchases should count towards the singles chart.

I wouldn't worry about "Sing" going to #1 again next Saturday.

I suppose the reason used to be that many shops are closed on Sunday, but now that album downloads are popular, it may benefit if albums were released on Sundays.

Oh yeah, I guess that's pretty logical. I wonder if they will start being released on Sunday soon.

That isn't how it works unfortunately.

I'd feel a bit bad for Oliver Heldens if he ends up missing #1 because of the pre-order boost to Sing.

1 Ed Sheeran - Sing 1.0000

2 Ella Henderson - Ghost 0.3248

3 Oliver Heldens & Becky Hill - Gecko (Overdrive) [Radio ... 0.2935

That 'Gecko' thing could even end up at #3 in the end then? :o

Why are all the best dance tunes flopping compared to the rubbish ones which are successful.

Jubel, Changes, Here For You, I Wanna Feel, Gecko all deserve to be so much bigger than Waves, Nobody to Love, My Love

That isn't how it works unfortunately.

Well then however it works makes no sense. "Sing" is #1 right now because of the album preorders. And tomorrow those pre-orders turn into album sales. iTunes and OCC should know which downloads are legit and which come from album pre-orders.

Good to see Example top 5... his first song to make a big impact since Say Nothing/ We'll Be Coming Back

the key word there is "should". They should, but they don't for whatever reason. Any sales that 'Sing' makes today because of album pre-orders from the last few weeks + today's pre-orders will count towards the chart, this will give Ed a big midweek lead.

Looks like 'Gecko' won't be going to #1 then :( Top 3 is still a massive achievement, I just hope it will have more longevity than I Wanna Feel/Jubel/Changes.

yes Example :cheer: I knew this would do better than his last two singles but I wasn't expecting a potential top 5 hit! Great to see him turning his career around.
