Be Faithful that low?! :( Can definitely understand why people would dislike it but the entire sample is amazing

Believe it or not, Gary & Robbie weren't the only Take That members who had solo hits, Mark Owen also had that honour during their hiatus. Really good song, I do love his voice and wish he got to sing more whilst in the band. Just below him is...well, Robbie. The chorus on this feels like it goes on forever and just doesn't reach the heights of 'anthemic' really.

Also here is Louise (I only just realised this is Louise Redknapp, whoops  ) who did also have quite a few hits before dropping into oblivion and some Liberty X song that I never knew of. In the middle of them all is a completely forgotten yet really nice drum'n'bass-esque song, which could very easily make the top 10 today as well.

Largely seen as one of the all time greatest ever cover versions, Michael Andrews' haunting piano chords and Gary Jules' hypnotic and desolate vocals truly immortalised the Tears For Fears song, it rightfully finishes in.....21st, 21ST?!! I am judging you all so much right now. This should be in the upper reaches not in the same section as ATOMIC KITTEN, ASHANTI and S CLUB FRICKIN' 8 with a surprisingly good song mind

I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad :(

I love Texas and Atomic Kitten pretty much equally but Carnival Girl finishing below the AK song that defines basic non-song in a way only Kym Marsh's solo career could identify with is criminal. I don't hate Mad World but it's pretty depressing and I was on team Darkness for the Xmas No.1 even if I'm not a major fan of that either. Fair play to Mad World getting the Xmas No.1 having already been available on this album for a good month beforehand though!

Amy Studt & Stacie Orrico are two female artists that I'd imagine would've had quite a following on here had Buzzjack been active in 2003, alas they are rather little known these days. Richard X may be best known for his Liberty X collab, but his duet with Kelis was another hit for him. Lemar clearly had a bit more to him than your average talent show 3rd place finisher, and has indeed almost maintained relevance to this day (almost that is), Dance With U was his rather cool debut single. A rather randomly high entry from Angel City as well which most voters didn't know, but again, a great little forgotten gem.

(sorry that commentary was really shit)

Kylie's slight change of direction was quite a polarising one, but definitely turned out well for her, even if it may not be her most well-remembered song. Busted are also here 9and surprisingly high!) with a song that perhaps got a bit lost in the middle of their more memorable songs, also here is Sophie Ellie Bextor just after her 'golden' era (in comparison, the rest of her career barely reached bronze) and the Stereophonics match Have a Nice Day's final position in the Now 49 rate with Maybe Tomorrow, another great moment from them.

I really don't know who Lumidee is at all, quite a catchy track though.

I really love Mixed Up World, one of Sophie's best songs for me.

10. Elton John - Are You Ready For Love (7.48)

09. Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love (7.51)

These two fitted well together lol~

Are You Ready For Love is a REALLY random top 10 in this, I didn't think it would come anywhere near! But it is quite the classic and going to number 1 after all those years in 2003 proved it. A really feelgood song and one of Sir Elton's best for me.

Where Is The Love was very, very divisive, probably the most I've seen since starting these, but despite 4 negative marks, it still makes the top 10 and would've probably been a contender to win without them. I actually think this is really great and remains a modern day classic, it's a little earnest yes, but yanno, thought that counts and all

Pretty great song from Ultrabeat so can't really complain with that placing, not so sure about Emma's though, top 10 worthy? Grumble. nice legs though

Maybe was really good. Pretty Green Eyes reminds me so much of my school days
Evening Chez. Great to see Stereophonics in the Top 15. I was a little worried that wouldn't get Top 20. It's certainly one of their best singles in my opinion. Now 56 is a rather bland Now album looking back. Shame Jameson didn't get Top 20. As you say in your commentary, it was a track that would certainly be a big Top 10 hit today, and was certainly about 10 years ahead of it's time.

05. Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex (7.98)

11 (JosephStyles)

-1 (Rob S, Chez Wombat)

Any doubts that Rachel Stevens would struggle as a soloist after S Club were instantly cast away with this single, -1 is perhaps harsh from me, but I find it massively overrated and the chorus is a bit weak for me. Idk, I'll give it time.

Girls Aloud were also, at the time, proving that they were far from flash in the pans. Life Got Cold is a really great song, when they weren't putting out trashy stuff, they were actually really good.

Couldn't have said it better Chez regarding Sweet Dreams. Never understood the fuss with her as an artist (unpopular opinion alert)

nearly forgot about Maybe's existence in Emma's discography till I gave it a listen to jog my memory. Glad it's finished top 10 and Maybe Tomorrow should be top 10 as does Mad World and Where is the Love :(

JT had more than a hint of early Michael Jackson in the sound of Rock Your Body, and it paid off brilliantly. Still an absolutely glorious listen and one of his best moments, was quite close to winning all the way through even though it's only 4th in the end.

And neatly tying up this commentary to my first one I did about Jamelia in the Now 65 rate, here she is when she was more relevant and with by far her best song for me.

I liked Superstar, Something About You was her best for me though.

02. Beyonce feat. Jay Z - Crazy In Love (8.31)

01. Sugababes - Hole In The Head (8.57)

11 (AdamAloud, Niall Minogue, Jack)

5 (T Boy, Alex)

Well, that top 2 was predictable, but they're both big tunes so no worries here - I don't know if anyone at the time would've been stupid enough to think Beyoncé may struggle as a solo artist, but safe to say, even they would've forgotten that after she dropped Crazy In Love and from then there was no looking back for her. An expert use of a sample (did you know that?) and has aged remarkably well, nothing surpasses it in her back catalogue for me.

And your winning song is a great reminder of when Sugababes were actually good. It's hard to imagine these days but before all these ridiculous line up changes, they were a power trio, Hole In The Head has personality and a catchy hook and is a very deserved winner.

Full recap coming up.

Brilliant winner and Sugababes best song! HITH is a pop classic

Thanks Chez :D Will you be doing Now 64 at some point?
