July 20, 201411 yr 'Chandelier' is so gorgeous but it's a bit awkward to blast out casually because it's so emotional!
July 20, 201411 yr Good to see Sia holding up well, but shame she just missed out on her 3rd week top 10.
July 20, 201411 yr at some point this year - with so many one week number 1s, the record for most number ex-number 1s in the Top 40 must have been within reach, if not surpassed.
July 20, 201411 yr Tell that to radio 1 about 'Moves Like Jagger' ;) Back to the point though - it only happens rarely, but when a popular song (generally one outside the usual singles chart demographic) is ignored by radio, it has very limited alternative promo, so its sales aren't concentrated into a short period. I'd say in this case it's clearly because of the enduring popularity of the film and has nothing to do with how much or little radio are playing it. If they were playing it it would have just as long a chart run except probably with a top 10 peak.

For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2012 11 Latch (Disclosure Feat. July 20, 201411 yr Absolutely ADORE 'Stay With Me'. 9 weeks top 10 is a fantastic achievement as well. Edited July 20, 201411 yr by AdamAloud
July 20, 201411 yr Really quite sick of 'Stay With Me' now, would have far preferred to see Sia sticking in the top 10 for another week :(
July 20, 201411 yr Sam Smith may just have the dullest voice for a so-called "emotional" pop star for many a year.

July 20, 201411 yr 4 weeks top 10 is not too bad for 'Gecko (Overdrive)', after predictions of it being a total non-#1 - at least it's beaten the top 10 longevity of 'The Man', 'Tsunami (Jump)', 'She Looks So Perfect' and 'I Wanna Feel'.

July 20, 201411 yr Sam Smith may just have the dullest voice for a so-called "emotional" pop star for many a year. I prefer his to Emily thingy and Burno Mars.
July 20, 201411 yr Looks like the record may be 13 number ones (past, present & future) in the Top 40 w/e 7/1/12, 21/1/12, 15/9/12, 22/12/12 & 29/12/12 There were 14 #1s in the top 40 a few weeks ago (the week 'Three Lions' re-entered the top 40 alongside 13 of 2014's #1s). EDIT: 15 even, forgot to count the present #1 of that week.
