Also ha at what was at the time thought to be a career quality high for Darius finishing second from bottom! The cheesy charm of Kinda Love was far better (and still not great).

I'm a sucker for a dance track with strings and Soul Central did that really well for me with 'Strings of Life', which was a Top 10 hit after getting vocals from Kathy Brown.

 

One of U2's best songs (for me) is next up, it was the first single from their 2004 album 'How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb'. and is one of two Number 1 singles from that album. Just one place above it is Atomic Kitten's Cradle, which is one place higher die to getting an 11 rate from jonjo.

 

Athlete are at 22 with a track that is far too low. Wires is beautiful and is about Joel Potts daughter being born prematurely. It was the first single to be taken from the album 'Tourist'.

 

Loverfreekz just miss out on a Top 20 placing with a track that samples ELO's Shine A Little Love.

A Rather surprising set of results here. Jo Jo's second single is kicking us off, 'Baby It's You' became her second Top 10 hit in late 2004. I can't believe Doves are in the Top 20 on a Buzzjack forum. 'Black and White Town' was always played during the BBC's six nations coverage at the time. Great track! :)

 

Shapeshifters finally followed up 'Lola's Theme' with 'Back To Basics', which peaked at Number 10 in the charts, and Girls Alouds 2004 Children In Need song is at 17. The track was a cover of The Pretenders 'I'll Stand By You', which became their second chart topper. Bloc Party's debut track rounds off this section.

Very bizarre seeing Bloc Party and Doves within the top 20! Also, that Shapeshifters track - IMO it seemed very generic house for its time. Surprised it charted so high.

Back To Basics was just riding on the coattails of Lola's Theme's success. It was decent enough and completely inoffensive, which is why I suppose it's come midtable here.

She was known as the queen of 'Crunk' back in the day Ciara hit Number 1 at the start of 2005 with 'Goodies'. The final single from Keane's debut album 'Hopes and Fears' is at 14. 'This Is The Last Time' was an absolute anthem and former Fame Academy contestant and runner up Lemar is at 13 with the excellent 'If There's Any Justice'.

 

The Bravery get a surprise high entry with 'An Honest Mistake' and the official comic Relief single from McFly is just missing out on the Top 10.

Genuinely surprised at this top 20! A lot of indie acts in the better half of the charts! Good to see Keane and Lemar here!

What a great welcome into the Top 10 from Lucie Silvas with a great feel good pop song. This was her second Top 10 single following up 'What You're Made Of'.

Following on previous Top 10 singles 'Foolish' and 'Rock With U (Aww Baby)' and a being part of a Number 1 single alongside Ja Rule and R Kelly only a few months before with 'Wonderful', 'Only U' became another successful hit for R&B singer Ashanti in 2005.

Sampling Boy Meets Girl's 80's classic Waiting For A Star To Fall was a popular thing in early 2005. You had the Cabin Crew's take on it 'Star To Fall', Mylo's 'In My Arms' and this from the Sunset Strippers, which was the biggest hit out of the three tracks. This got to Number 2 in early 2005.

Here's another track that samples an 80's classic. This time taking on Hall and Oats track of the same name. This was a big dance hit through the festive period of 2004.

So happy to see two big dance tracks within the top 10! I loved this time of music, when they sampled older songs and made them fresher and more energetic and positive! Such great tunes!

 

Also, Lucie Silvas at No.10? Great song, but again, I'm astonished!

The millionth single from their debut album saw the Scissor Sisters go to Number 3 in the charts with this belter.

Two decent songs. Kylie's 'I Believe In You' has a very retro vibe to it. Like something out of the 80's...

 

Scissor Sisters though. Man, this song was just downright dirty, but a corker nonetheless!

4. The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize (8.0)

The start of 2005 saw The Chemical Brothers shoot back into the Top 3 with 'Galvanize', featuring rapper QTip. It was the first single to be taken from their fifth studio album 'Push The Button'.

Welsh rockers Stereophonics scored their first Number 1 hit with the massive anthem 'Dakota'. It was the first single to be taken from their fifth studio album 'Language, Sex, Violence, Other?'.
