November 24, 201410 yr I'd have found 'Family Portrait' to be a bit of a bizarre choice for Fleur the week after she had family members on stage with her for a female-empowerment song! So I'm glad she's got 'If I Ain't Got You'. I hope her performance of it makes the original re-chart; its chart run is only '18-26-44-54-60-out-54-out' :o
November 24, 201410 yr Apparently Fleur absolutely nailed if I Ain't Got You in vocal rehearsals! I really hope this is the performance that proves all the doubters of her voice wrong. Also, Don't You Worry Child has been chosen for Lauren. I wonder if she'll "John Lewis" it or do it properly... Good choice anyway imo. She'll do a similar interpretation to Jade Ellis 2 years ago I imagine...
November 24, 201410 yr What do Stereo Kicks offer that the other successful boybands in the industry don't? Just because there are 8 of them? Only one can actually sing! Only the Young may not be strong singers but they can offer something new seeing as though they are likeable and look well/work well as a group. X Factor sometimes limits artists as they can't do the sound that they would be as artists. Only the Young could do really well if they do the right material and find the right style. There is a gap in the market for them. There is not a gap in the market for Stereo Kicks. Do SK have to offer something different? Why cant they be a 'pretty' boyband selling records to teenage girls? I mean whether you might like it or not it clearly is a formula that can and does work. As for OTY you cant say there is a gap in the market if in actuality there is just no market there for an act like that. I mean if a mixed group like OTY were what the market needed there would be one out there already, it isn't like record companies have never heard of mixed groups of that vein before. If I had to bet money on one of SK or OTY getting hits outside the show I know which one my money would be on.
November 24, 201410 yr Stereo Kicks will be going into an incredibly saturated market. So yes, they do have to offer something different. Look at Union J - they're just not happening cause they've not found where they fit in. Stereo Kicks would surely want to contend with The Vamps, 5 Seconds of Summer and most importantly One Direction, not do a Union J.

The other 2 songs, one is probably unheard of to the masses, the other is one of Pink's less known hits and a bit of a Debbie Downer song. If you look at it properly there was a clear favourite choice in each of the 3 songs for each artist.

Had 3 top 10 hits and a top 10 album, with an X factor performance this week. Sales may not be through the roof but they are doing ok and I would assume sell decent merchandise too. Given some of the winners/RU cant muster that much It isn't too shabby by X factor standards.

The market is oversaturated and with something like boybands, when that occurs, you have to offer something new. The three leading boybands currently are 1D, 5SOS and The Vamps and they all offer something different. I can't really see Stereo Kicks competing with them. As Stereo Kicks are still in the competition, they are bound to be more successful now, yes. However, if Only the Young had progressed to a good stage ie semi-finals/THE final, then they would have been carefully managed and would have had the right music and marketing that would make them a successful group and I can guarantee the cheesy route would not be one they would go down. If they did, yes I agree they would not be successful. Just because they are a mixed group does not mean they have to make cheesy music.
November 24, 201410 yr Final song choice is Stereo Kicks... Run :manson: they butchered it when they sang it the first time. And another ballad! They're like an 8 piece Westlife, unsurprisingly with Louis behind them
November 24, 201410 yr Oh dear! To be fair all 3 choices were of the same ilk. They really do remind me of Westlife when they come together for the choruses of the songs they perform.

They're doing "OK" yes but I imagine Syco would be expecting more than "OK" for Stereo Kicks going by how much Simon is hyping them up. 3 top 10 hits and they've spent a combined total of 6 weeks top 40. And half of them from Carry You. And one single didn't even make the top 100 let alone top 40. If we compare The Vamps, for example, who have been around for about the same amount of time, they've spent 30 weeks top 40 (across 5 singles compared to 4 for Union J). Simon won't want SK to "do a Union J".

But that's the thing, the boyband market is really saturated, and I think the boyband market is beginning to fade and moving on towards more capital FM guitar pop-based acts like Vamps, Rixton etc. One Direction were a bit of a one-off, the market was high at the time and there was a gap in the market for another boyband. I just don't see that with Stereo Kicks, I'm not sure what Simon is smoking. They don't even have the likeability factor of One Direction back in the day. If they take off they will do another Union J guaranteed.

Union J aren't really doing that - they don't even have a distinctive sound. You won't hear one of their songs on the radio and immediately know it's Union J. Don't get me wrong, I like them a lot, their first album was pretty great, but they seem very much in the shadows. They're even supporting The Vamps on tour next year. The Vamps are headlining an arena tour yet Union J are just the support acts, despite them releasing their debut singles within months of each other. Totally agree about Stereo Kicks not even coming close to the likeability factor of 1D, they've had an awful lot of bad press that 1D never had during the show.
November 24, 201410 yr Yay at Stereo Kicks singing "Run". Even if they butcher it I hope Leona's version will get a nice boost. :kink: Happy with the other choices for the contestants. Just realised that "If I Ain't Got You" has never been performed on a live show before! So happy Fleur got that over "Family Portrait" now. Lauren should hopefully nail "Don't You Worry Child". I think Ben will do "Thinking Out Loud" well and Andrea will do "Hero" well too, but it's very predictable and I think Andrea will end up in the bottom 2 again.

Yeah I mean for all we know they might find something that works about Stereo Kicks, but right now I mean they're unoriginal. Trying to do the whole Spice Girl thing, I think people loved that at the time because it was original. Like I can't quite make out whether they want them to be a new Westlife sort of band, or a dancey boyband, or even a sort of One Direction hybrid.

Little Mix/Tulisa (although predominantly Tulisa) performed it in a medley with 'Empire State of Mind' in the 2011 final. :) Edited November 25, 201410 yr by Defaze
November 26, 201410 yr This is rumoured to be Fleur's winners' single (I think they recorded, or are going to record, the songs this week). Nice choice, random and sounds too cliche though. I'd love Fleur to break out and do a different type of winners' song but I doubt it :P
November 26, 201410 yr I don't think any of the current finalists will last longer than a year if I'm being honest, I can't see Fleur managing to be successful.
November 26, 201410 yr She could be very successful, depends how they market her! She's effectively the Alexandra of the year but I really don't feel all that much hype around her. I'm interested to see what lane they'd try and go with her because as good as she is, she's done 'Fine China', 'Bang Bang' and 'All About That Bass' of the recent hits. None of these are really comparable and I think this is something that is stopping me connecting with her in the way I did with Alexandra who was clearly going to slot straight into an upbeat pop with a hint of RnB role. Fleur might be a great performer but it's quite difficult to see where they're trying to take her at the moment, she's obviously got her rap sections but she hasn't really done much of an RnB ilk since Paper Planes?
November 28, 201410 yr Lauren is ill so may miss tomorrow's show :( It's most likely one of those rumours where she'll end up being fine and her being ill won't even be mentioned though. DS forum is of course up in arms about her faking it to make it through, but I think she'd have to withdraw rather than receiving a pass through at this late stage. I'm sure if it was Ben, it'd be "get well soon sexy xxxxx" :drama:
November 28, 201410 yr If she does get a pass to the semi final it wil be absolutely ridiculous at such a late stage, either she performs ill or withdraws
