"S&M" is a song by Barbadian singer Rihanna from her fifth studio album, Loud (2010). The song was released on January 21, 2011, as the fourth single from the album. The American songwriter Ester Dean wrote "S&M" in collaboration with the producers StarGate and Sandy Vee. Backed by bass beats, a keyboard, and guitars, it is an uptempo dance-pop and Eurodance track that samples the synthesizer line from Depeche Mode's 1984 song "Master and Servant". The lyrics revolve around sexual intercourse, sadomasochism, bondage, and fetishes.

Critical response to "S&M" was mixed with some critics praising its sound and composition while others criticized its overtly sexual lyrics. The song charted at number two on the United States' Billboard Hot 100 chart. A remix featuring Britney Spears was released, and when combined with sales of the solo version, it became Rihanna's tenth and Spears' fifth number-one single on the chart. It has been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). "S&M" peaked at number one in Australia, Canada, and Poland, and reached the top five in France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the UK.

To promote "S&M", Rihanna performed a shortened version at the 2011 BRIT Awards and sang the remix with Spears at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. Melina Matsoukas directed the song's music video, which was, in part, Rihanna's response to disparaging critics. It portrays softcore sadomasochist acts and fetishes. The music video was banned in many countries and restricted to nighttime television in others. Critics complimented Rihanna's sensuality and the vibrant colors. Photographer David LaChapelle filed a lawsuit alleging that the video incorporates ideas from his photographs. Rihanna and LaChapelle settled the case for an undisclosed sum of money.

WARNING: This video was deemed too sexually explicit to be shown to people under the age of 18.

I can't believe the amount of great songs that have fallen whilst the annoying turd that is "Rude Boy" remains.
Can't believe S&M is gone, such a shame went for Russian Roulette again
S&M is a big song. You are all crazy. Now get the awful Diamonds out FFS.

Edited by Joe.

This getting impossible now 😨

Disturbia for me though.

Goodbye 'Rude Boy' for me now! As soon as that and 'Only Girl' go, I'm going to be struggling, hugely!

gurl. you are WRAWNG

Oh hmm, I'll vote 'Diamonds', just to put it out of its misery (and Aly x). Also in an attempt to save 'SOS', 'Rude Boy' & 'Disturbia'.

I haven't voted yet to see the results so far, but I assume people aren't targeting 'Unfaithful' yet. Which they really ought to be because it's looking weak in that list of titles.

Edit: Glad I have voted for 'Diamonds', 'SOS' can't go yet. :snif:
