BJSC 177: MERCY - POSSESSION

Following the upbeat electronica of last month, Kathaldazia take a sharp swerve to some dark, melodic techno for BJSC 177. Canadian-based MERCY's DJ sets went semi viral on YouTube this year, receiving millions of views and she released this, her debut single, off the back of that. She describes herself as a DJ/producer, warrior princess, fairy queen and visionary.

The drop is creepy and hard, and somehow goes even harder in the final minute with some cool squealing sound effects. I heard this at a warehouse rave for the first the time and it sounds immense on a proper sound system. There's an Anti-Trump sentiment in the video where MERCY becomes possessed after a therapist shows her an image of the much-hated president. MERCY whispers words throughout the track, but sings the bridge, "Love is the enemy when you've never been loved before"

The song title for our entry this month reads 'Back Back Back, Forward' 🤓 It is from LA-based 3l3d3p's upcoming debut album. She is an exciting new artist who is labelmates with Cowgirl Clue. Her music is extremely varied and fun. This unconventional track mixes D&B/happy hardcore-esque rap verses with ethereal ambient electronica. This contrast of sounds is fitting for the song's message of resilience. It's hard to compare to her to anyone but it did give me early Santigold/Diplo vibes. The music video is brilliant and finds 3l3d3p fighting in her own video game while also being judged in a courtroom. We love a chronically online artiste <3
