October 19, 201412 yr I guess Sam Smith will have the #1 album next week with the Mobo Awards mid week and his stint on Jools Holland :( Despite 21 weeks in the top 5 his overall sales are appalling!
October 19, 201412 yr Despite 21 weeks in the top 5 his overall sales are appalling! I wouldn't really call 540k+ 'appalling', especially in this sales climate! Maybe a little lower than you'd expect from 21 weeks top 5 I suppose but it's easily going to go double platinum and likely triple platinum / million selling if it continues to be high in the charts over Christmas which it no doubt will. In any case I don't think Sam Smith will be going back to #1, Ben Howard will be a shoo-in for the top spot next week.
October 19, 201412 yr hiya buzzjack! retro faves and comments 2013 3- JULIET- Lawson (40,812) i literally forgot this existed. what an awful song/band. 4- BONFIRE HEART- James Blunt (38,410) surprisingly good by his standards, was weird seeing him get a hit single this late into his career when we all dismissed him as an album/R2 artist  5- RAP GOD- Eminem (33,612) love his fast rapping in this, we don't get a lot of his 'comedic' side these days so this single was good to hear 7- BERZERK- Eminem (32,076) 8- AFTERGLOW- Wilkinson (30,518) well this is far better than the song he's about to enter with today, Becky Hill's vocals are great as always, I hope Losing becomes a hit for her but she needs to do more dance collabs too! 9- R U CRAZY- Conor Maynard (29,739) whatever happened to him? :o 10- CHANGE YOUR LIFE- Iggy Azelea Ft T.I (26,622) not bad, I was a bit disappointed with her at this time after the amazing Work being followed by Bounce and this. Then of course we got Fancy/Black Widow  2009 1- BAD BOYS- Alexandra Burke Ft Flo Rida (187,100) now she'd be lucky to sell 18,710 copies of a new single :( this was great, was refreshing to have an XF winner do an urban-flavoured uptempo like this after Leona Lewis doing lots of pop ballads and multiple male floppy winners 3- OOPSY DAISY- Chipmunk (59,916) 4- BREAK YOUR HEART- Taio Cruz (36,680) 5- EMPIRE STATE OF MIND- Jay Z Ft Alicia Keys (34,668) 6- I GOTTA FEELING- Black Eyed Peas (33,354) 10- SEXY CHICK- David Guetta Ft Akon (24,771) 2004 1- CALL ON ME- Eric Prydz (23,519) classic dance tune  4- MY NECK, MY BACK- Khia (18,500) B-) B-) B-) swag levels are off the scale! 6- FLASHDANCE- Deep Dish (11,400)* 10- DO YOU KNOW? (I GO CRAZY)- Angel City (9,700)* 1999 1- GENIE IN A BOTTLE- Christina Aguilera (123,000) 2- 2 TIMES- Ann Lee (110,000) 3- DON’T STOP- ATB (91,000) beautiful progressive-trance song, you need to hear this if you haven't already! 4- BLUE (DA BA DEE)- Eiffel 65 (74,000)* Is it too much to ask for Watermat to stay top 15? :( Make it happen British public
October 19, 201412 yr Surely Ben Howard has a shot at #1 next week (hopefully, anyway. who likes seeing the same old thing at the top)
October 19, 201412 yr 2013 2- WRECKING BALL- Miley Cyrus (53,989) 6- ROAR- Katy Perry (33,207) It's a good song, but definitely doesn't sound like a million selling single 2009 1- BAD BOYS- Alexandra Burke Ft Flo Rida (187,100) Still her best song, and easily my favorite in the 2009 retro 3- OOPSY DAISY- Chipmunk (59,916) 4- BREAK YOUR HEART- Taio Cruz (36,680) 5- EMPIRE STATE OF MIND- Jay Z Ft Alicia Keys (34,668) 6- I GOTTA FEELING- Black Eyed Peas (33,354) Really liked it at the time, but its been so overplayed that I can't stand it anymore 7- SHE WOLF- Shakira (28,942) The most distinct song in this top 10 10- SEXY CHICK- David Guetta Ft Akon (24,771) Only ok... 2004 1- CALL ON ME- Eric Prydz (23,519) Its decent but not great. I'm glad it blocked some awful #2's though 10- DO YOU KNOW? (I GO CRAZY)- Angel City (9,700)* The only song I actually like in the top10 1999 1- GENIE IN A BOTTLE- Christina Aguilera (123,000) 2- 2 TIMES- Ann Lee (110,000) As much as I prefer GIAB, I think it deserved to rise to #1 with the sales it had at #2 for 2 weeks 3- DON’T STOP- ATB (91,000) Love the original and the UK remix too 4- BLUE (DA BA DEE)- Eiffel 65 (74,000)* 7- NEVER LET YOU DOWN- Honeyz (50,000)* One of their best singles imo 9- I TRY- Macy Gray (35,000)* 10- MAN I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN- Shania Twain (34,000)* Edited October 19, 201412 yr by Euphorique

Maybe a little lower than you'd expect from 21 weeks top 5 I suppose but it's easily going to go double platinum and likely triple platinum / million selling if it continues to be high in the charts over Christmas which it no doubt will. My point was that this is a reflection of the sales climate. 4/5 years ago if an album had this many weeks top 5 it would be nearer a million. Given the climate now though, not so bad I guess.
October 19, 201412 yr Poor U2, I hope they weren't too close to Jessie J as it would have been amusing to see her missing the top 5!
October 19, 201412 yr U2 sold probably way under 20k, awful.. although their US sales are even worse.
October 19, 201412 yr Bad Boys <3. Next week will be 5 years since Fight For This Love :o Those 2004 sales are awful! The #10 in 2013, 2009, and 1999 all had higher sales than the #1 in 2004. Edited October 19, 201412 yr by n4yr
October 19, 201412 yr Hey all! Haven't done retro faves in ages :o 2013 1- COUNTING STARS- One Republic (65,981) 2- WRECKING BALL- Miley Cyrus (53,989) 3- JULIET- Lawson (40,812) Actually I didn't like this, would rather think of 'Taking Over Me' as their sole highest peak. Surprised they haven't released or even announced album #2 yet! 4- BONFIRE HEART- James Blunt (38,410) 5- RAP GOD- Eminem (33,612) 6- ROAR- Katy Perry (33,207) 7- BERZERK- Eminem (32,076) 8- AFTERGLOW- Wilkinson (30,518) 9- R U CRAZY- Conor Maynard (29,739) Speaking of no second album...Conor! Where are you!? 2009 1- BAD BOYS- Alexandra Burke Ft Flo Rida (187,100) 4- BREAK YOUR HEART- Taio Cruz (36,680) Much prefer this to his later version of it with Ludacris 5- EMPIRE STATE OF MIND- Jay Z Ft Alicia Keys (34,668) 6- I GOTTA FEELING- Black Eyed Peas (33,354) 7- SHE WOLF- Shakira (28,942) A shame this is her most recent top ten hit! 8- FOREVER IS OVER- Saturdays (28,527) 9- HAVEN’T MET YOU YET- Michael Buble (28,224) 10- SEXY CHICK- David Guetta Ft Akon (24,771) 2004 1- CALL ON ME- Eric Prydz (23,519) 4- MY NECK, MY BACK- Khia (18,500) *.* The other songs I've never even heard of. Oops. 1999 1- GENIE IN A BOTTLE- Christina Aguilera (123,000) 4- BLUE (DA BA DEE)- Eiffel 65 (74,000)* 9- I TRY- Macy Gray (35,000)* 10- MAN I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN- Shania Twain (34,000)*

Good to see that somebody else knows that a shoo-in has nothing to do with footwear. The term even made it into this week's commentary :D
October 19, 201412 yr Such a shame that 'Sweet Talker' only managed #5. It deserves a higher peak than the awful 'Alive'! Maybe it could climb to a new peak next week with her X Factor performance tonight?
October 19, 201412 yr Such a shame that 'Sweet Talker' only managed #5. It deserves a higher peak than the awful 'Alive'! Maybe it could climb to a new peak next week with her X Factor performance tonight? It won't. The absolute best it'll get is a second week low top 10.
October 19, 201412 yr I've been listening to the Vamps waiting for the chart to start. The singer really isn't very good is he? Unless it's just an off day?
