11 Tom Odell - Real Love aww gutted that it's ended up at #11. real shame it's not doing as well as previous years either :(

13 Iggy Azalea - Black Widow (feat. Rita Ora) surprised this has missed the top 10 but top 15 isn't bad. Should be high on my EOY too. One ofthe best videos this year. Hands down!

22 Elyar Fox - A Billion Girls each to their own but this is dreadful. DIAOA is a bit better!

23 The Vamps - Somebody To You (feat. Demi Lovato) one of my fave Vamp songs!

24 One Direction - Night Changes one of my fave 1D songs too :kink:

25 Paloma Faith - Only Love Can Hurt Like This I actually found this pretty boring for a few listens as was the album overall but it's safe to say it grew and now I find it beautiful.

:heehee: I tend to mark newer songs down just a tad on the basis that I don't know exactly how they'll age for me, of course they'd both be a LOT higher if I re-did my 2013 EOY chart! (which I may do in the new year like I did with the 2012 one earlier this year)

Well it's not Oh Cecilia that is the best Vamps single of 2014 for me as it drops out *just* ahead of Last Night in 9th place. Wild Heart is officially my favourite Vamps single of 2014, but will it go all the way? Stay tuned...

 

Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart) was an instant favourite of mine, I first heard it when they supported Taylor Swift on tour and did a set consisting of Wild Heart, Last Night (which hadn't premiered in studio form at that point), a Mr Brightside cover, She Was the One (another new track at the time), Can We Dance, and concluding with this. It was a huge crowd pleaser, very easy to sing along to and a lot of fun. Naturally, this made me very excited for the album, especially when I saw it was being included on the tracklist. I'd been championing it for a single release ever since I heard the studio version and I was overjoyed when it was eventually confirmed as single 5. The addition of Shawn Mendes seemed...a bit pointless, but I'm a fan of his anyway and his part just works with the song now. After making the top 10 when the album got released, Oh Cecilia went on to become the boys' fifth #1 single in my chart, and the first for Shawn.

Oooh I do like Cecilia actually! Not their best but it's not horrible either :lol:

 

I've only just recently heard 'Wild Heart', before that I only heard the Pixie version just out of interest! V~good! probably up there with Can We Dance :heart:

yes last night, definitely my favourite of their singles so far. hoping they come back with more fantasic pop tunes next year or maybe in two.

 

oh cecilia is very nice too, shawn really added to it i though too. my favourite video of theirs as well.

I can see their next album happening late next year tbh, Q4 probably - they're touring in May but after that I imagine they'll be finishing the album!

8 G.R.L. - Ugly Heart - 1-1-2-4-5-8-12-18-9-16-12-8-11-11-12-15-17-19-24-... (19+ weeks)

 

New girl group G.R.L. were initially branded and formed as the new line-up of the Pussycat Dolls, before changing their name. Their commercial breakthrough was on Pitbull's track Wild Wild Love, before premiering their first proper single Ugly Heart earlier this year. It was love at first listen for me, entered straight in at #1 in my chart and proved to be a huge hit. Seeing it become a chart hit was surprising (with such little radio support) but it was fantastic.

 

Sadly, just two days before it entered the UK chart, news of member Simone Battle's suicide was announced. It was absolutely heartbreaking to hear, I hadn't invested anything in them individually other than learning their names, but it really struck a chord with me, especially for someone so young and talented, and who was currently breaking through in the charts. It all seemed so good for G.R.L. and it just goes to show that you never know what happens behind closed doors. Reading their memorial tweets to Simone was especially saddening, they all spoke so highly of her. It warms my heart to know they've recorded a song dedicated to her, expected as their next single, called Lighthouse, the LQ snippet sounded wonderful :heart:

 

Hearing the song after Simone's death sounded quite weird at first and it entering the UK chart at #11, despite being #6 on sales, just felt even worse, but thankfully it spent 10 further weeks in the top 40 (eventually gaining a week from streaming after it knocked them out of the top 10 in week 1!). The song has not gotten even SLIGHTLY boring for me, an absolutely perfect pop song and I wish there were more of this in the chart. 2015 needs to be a great year for G.R.L., let's hope Radio 1 get on board this time!

Aww the guy i was with last night is in LOVE with this song and he put it on on Youtube and i mentioned Simone's passing and he was completely unaware about it! So i told him all about it/when it happened etc. THEN it came on in the club after and we had a boogie to it.

 

Become quite a special song for me this year and i didn't even realise it :heart:

I adore ugly heart, definitely one of the best pop songs of the last few years and bathe best girlband song this year. It is just so so amazing :wub:

Fabulous to see 'Ugly Heart' within your Top 10! It's a terrible shame that the song is tinged with sadness now though. :( Nevertheless it's still a tune, and it really deserved Top 10.

Completely agree! It's on another level to their other singles.

Somebody To You is GREAT but it didn't have QUITE the same impact that the others had on me. An amazing track nonetheless though.
