10 08.0 You're My Number One (same 11s, more 10s)

http://en.academic.ru/pictures/enwiki/83/S_Club_7_-_TIAMYMNO_CD2.jpg

Don't worry Jonjo, it's only JUST in the top 10, winning the tie with So Good based on having more 10 scores! You're My Number One was released as a double a-side with Two in a Million and made the UK top 2 as the group's third single. I've always loved this, such a fun track and loads of fantastic memories with it!

Chart Run: 5-6-2-3-8-17-29-35-33-48-59-x

Highest: 11.0 (Simon, fgi090505)

Lowest: 02.0 (mr_aly)

I remember being really pleased when that single climbed to #2! Mainly for Two In A Million, I prefer that to YMNO (but I do like it).

Well I am glad everyone feels the same about 'More More More' as I do. I love Rachel but even I can't show any warmth to a cheapo cover that even Atomic Kitten would have passed on at the time.

Some Girls and Don't Stop Movin for top 2, thanking you please.

Is I Said Never Again still to come? If so why? It's not that good. It's certainly not better than Two In A Million or YMNO, or even Rachel's two singles before it.

So wrong. :( It's a masterpiece.

9 08.1 I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3f/ISNAbhwa.jpg

Simon relieved as I Said Never Again is out in 9th place (8th has the same average rounded to 1 decimal place but the whole number places #8 above this). This is the last Come & Get It single to feature and the third highest Rachel track, behind the obvious two! This was one of two Rachel singles to not make the top 10 (the other being the #26 peaking Funky Dory eeek). This fared slightly better and got to #12, followed by a swift exit a la the other two C&GI singles. It's a great track although I'd probably rank it a little lower myself.

Chart Run: 12-25-36-42-69-x

Highest: 11.0 (mr_aly, Liam)

Lowest: 04.0 (Liamshikari27, fgi090505)

You're My Number One is divine :( deserves #1. I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) and Negotiate With Love should be higher too.

8 08.1 Have You Ever

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005TOBM.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

So we come to the first #1 single in the countdown, and here at #8 (ahead of I Said Never Again on more decimal places) is Have You Ever, the group's second Children In Need single. The track is a gorgeous ballad with Jo on lead vocals as always, although the video is pretty awful, let's not forget the TV show of just watching some wind turbines *_*

Chart Run: 1-2-3-7-6-7-9-23-35-56-45-37-46-61-x

Highest: 11.0 (Jay)

Lowest: 06.0 (vibe, Dobbo, Chapman)

Have You Ever is a beautiful song, always overshadowed by Never Have A Dream Come True but I think it's just as good. Jo's voice at its absolute peak on the track too, very Karen Carpenter.

Not everyone! I like it. At the end of the day it was her last Top 3 hit and if it was regarded as all that bad by the public then it could have easily done a 'Funky Dory'. It is a bit throwaway but most covers are, but it's listenable pop that didn't sound out of place in 2004.

~

I adore Have You Ever, the song that is! It is a shame the video is awful. Weirdly I didn't even regard it as being bad in 2001 (and I would have seen it a lot of times on music channels) but with a recent viewing it struck me as being one of their worst videos. Strange setting for it, and the "outside" section is cringe.

Didn't she promote the hell out of 'More More More' and set a world record for the most public appearances within 24 hours or something? Plus it was a quieter period in mid-late 2004 as well.

I don't mind it so much, but I can see why it's such a maligned cover version.

That does ring a bell!

Maybe a small reason for the peak it achieved was it being her first single to be released on 2 unique CD formats (Some Girls & Funky Dory only had one, while Sweet Dreams had two with an identical track list!).

Having mentioned that, inconsistency with formats was a pet hate of mine in the physical era. I hated when acts would randomly only put on 1 CD when usually they'd put out two. S Club 7 did that, only one CD format for Never Had & Have You Ever, while all the others had two.

'Have You Ever' has such a bizarre chart run. 9 consecutive weeks top 40, but 7 of them were top 10?! How would that look nowadays? Would it count as a flop, or not? (Then an extra week top 40 after two weeks of being out of the top 40!) So random. Haha.

Great song and 'I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)' should be a pop classic.

A lot of chart runs were quite random like that in the physicals era! Sometimes singles would reenter the Top 40 after being put in bargain bins. Rather dramatic looking falls weren't uncommon, I suppose it was an indication of stock running out + new releases pushing it down. Everything had a shelf life back then!

I kind of miss how fast moving the charts used to be. It always seemed fresh and few records outstayed their welcome. A really big hit probably wouldn't spend much longer than 3 or 4 months in the Top 40 chart, if it managed more than that then that was quite phenomenal.

Gutted I didn't get to vote in this, but great rundown so far, but never keen on Rachel's "I Said Never Again", far too high and love "Have You Ever", definitely one of my all time fave S Club songs, can't wait too see where Reach, Don't Stop Movin', Bring It All Back and Rachel's Sweet Dreams end up

7 08.2 S Club Party

http://eil.com/images/main/S-Club-7-S-Club-Party---Pa-377691.jpg

S CLUUUUUUB! A definitive S Club 7 hit here in the form of their second single, S Club Party. The song helped the public get to know the group, with verse 2 reciting all their names, and the track became a #2 hit for the group. It's one of my personal favourites from the group, so much fun

6 08.6 Never Had a Dream Come True

http://i.imgur.com/m0P0ZLB.jpg

S Club 7's second #1 of four is in 6th place here, leaving a top 5 of two Rachel songs and three S Club songs. Never Had a Dream Come True was the first Children In Need single that the group did and was included on a re-issue of '7', before also being included on Sunshine. The track is an S Club classic and is the highest ballad in this countdown!
