Urgh every year we have a "LETS GET THIS ROCK SONG TO NUMBER ONE!!" campaign. Yet it's never worked aside from 2009.

 

Most of these campaigns - at Christmas or otherwise, regardless of genre - never work though, do they? They did back when downloading was first introduced to official sales figures and became a 'thing' but let's be honest. With streaming included now you'd be hard pushed to get someone to listen to say, 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' on loop on Spotify for 3 hours at a time.

It was a very popular performance and version in its own right. I'm sure many purchases were because people actually wanted Fleur's version in particular, as opposed to "ugh Ronson's version isn't out, I'll begrudgingly spend 99p on Fleur East instead".

 

Her version is back in the Top 10 despite the fact that the original is out and selling very well.

i visited two supermarkets this morning - Sainsbury's had a note up promoting Band Aid 30 but not copies of it visible to purchase, and at Morrison's I couldn't find any reference to it or any CDs at all.
