Posted December 24, 201410 yr I will kick start this later today (and probably do the bulk of it then), it has been an incredible year and the best year in quite some time so I had real difficulty compiling this. It will be a similar format to last year's, and I will also do a "top 5 horrors" too. For the meantime, I will list some honourable mentions that had to miss out this year (aka, the songs in my 2014 playlist I felt slight prangs of pain for having to leave out). David Guetta + Showtek Feat. Vassy - Bad Taylor Swift - Blank Space Amelia Lily - California Paloma Faith - Can't Rely On You MKTO - Classic David Guetta Feat. Sam Martin - Dangerous Bipolar Sunshine - Deckchairs On The Moon Kasabian - Eez-eh Oliver Heldens x Becky Hill - Gecko (Overdrive) Icona Pop - Get Lost Ella Henderson - Glow Leah McFall - Home Pixie Lott - Lay Me Down Kylie Minogue - Les Sex Tensnake - Love Sublime Pharrell Williams - Marilyn Monroe Route 94 Feat. Jess Glynne - My Love Kiesza - No Enemiesz Sigma - Nobody To Love Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Runaway Daydreamer Röyksopp + Robyn - Sayit Cher Lloyd - Sirens Fifth Harmony - Sledgehammer AlunaGeorge - Supernatural Tove Lo - Talking Body Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud G.R.L. - Ugly Heart Mark Ronson + Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk The Vamps - Wild Heart MNEK - Wrote A Song About You Beyoncé - XO

December 24, 201410 yr 'white noise' was my song of last year too, 'rock n roll' would have been top 10 also :o
December 24, 201410 yr Author I Blame Myself for #1 :jump: Someone's been paying attention to my obsessions throughout the year! *Applauds*
December 24, 201410 yr Author 'white noise' was my song of last year too, 'rock n roll' would have been top 10 also :o YAY. I have been mocked by one or two people for that choice of #1 last year, but I don't care. It was too damn good! :music:
December 24, 201410 yr YAY. I have been mocked by one or two people for that choice of #1 last year, but I don't care. It was too damn good! :music: avril has a surprisingly high number of quality songs to her name. 'smile' is my all time favourite.
December 24, 201410 yr Rock N Roll is AMAZING. Shame to see Get Lost miss out here, just about the only other person other than myself I could've seen putting this in their EOY, such a great song.
December 24, 201410 yr Shame eez-eh, home, ugly heart and especially blank space just missed out :( Really looking forward to this Aly, hoping the Veronicas to do well here
December 24, 201410 yr I think if it's between those two then Charli will win. I think you looned for that much more than YRM :P
December 24, 201410 yr Author 40-31, let's go! 40. Marina + The Diamonds - Froot http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a6/Marina_and_the_Diamonds_-_FROOT_Single_Cover.png BI_0HIz_4JY This is the first teaser track from Marina's album of the same name (which I am hugely excited about). It's a song I liked immediately but as I listened more, different things about it kept revealing themselves to me. It's such a multi-layered and funky song, it's almost like Marina doing Miami Sound Machine... well, in a way. 39. Demi Lovato - Neon Lights http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4c/Demi_Lovato_-_Neon_Lights_(Official_single_cover).png v9uDwppN5-w There's not much I can say about this, it's a generic pop/dance track and Demi is doing her best Jessie J impression on it. However this was a jam for me throughout the early part of the year and during the summer. 38. Christina Perri - Human http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/90/Christina_Perri_-_Human_(Official_Single_Cover).png r5yaoMjaAmE This is something I never expected in a song by this woman, emotion and vulnerability. A beautifully written ballad that's relatable and spine-tingling. 37. Natalia Kills - Trouble http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/60/KillsTrouble.png 2hUP43YiyJc The forever underrated Natalia Kills makes another appearance in my countdown with what is possibly her best song yet for me. Well constructed and emotive, although it's another tale of how her life is a mess. P.S. where do they get the money to fund these videos?! 36. The Vamps - Somebody To You http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7a/Somebody-to-You-Vamps-featuring-Demi-Lovato.jpg 0go2nfVXFgA My favourite of the boyband singles this year, a joyful singalong anthem which inspires all of us to be better people. I don't have a preference between the version with or without Demi, they're both pretty much the same to me. 35. The Veronicas - You Ruin Me http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9c/The_Veronicas_-_You_Ruin_Me.jpg W_rZ9rHFwGY This will probably come as a surprise to some people! The main reason for my looning is because I've been a HUGE fan of these girls since the beginning and thought they'd never get a hit in the UK again, so excitement got the better of me. :P It's not their best song, but I do still love it lots. It's a simplistic but effective ballad, and it's provided me with many a sing in the shower moment. They do however have one more song to come still, but what song is that and where will it be? 34. Tinashe Feat. Schoolboy Q - 2 On http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/23/Tinashe2On.jpg -s7TCuCpB5c This is a girl really worth getting excited about, she's without a doubt the best artist of her genre at the moment and with a HOT album to boot. This is how R&B should be done. 33. Katy Perry - Birthday http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/11/Katy_Perry_-_Birthday_Single_Cover.png jqYxyd1iSNk One in a long line of underperforming singles from Katy's Prism era, but this camp-as-a-row-of-pink-fluffy-tents disco-pop anthem never fails to lift my spirits, and who can resist a song with that many Double entendres? Oh and the lyric video >>>>>> The actual video. 32. ZHU - Faded zk3r-K8TQ5g This is gorgeous, I feel this chilled and minimal house production offers a lot more than most of the others of its ilk have done this year. It's surprising this went top 3, it doesn't sound remotely commercial although it truly deserved it. Looking forward to hearing more from this guy. 31. Mausi - My Friend Has A Swimming Pool MZTzzogZkYE I knew summer was here as soon as I heard this quirky number, it's full of catchy hooks and is so danceable. I was counting on this doing something when I saw it was getting Capital support but bafflingly Radio 1 didn't touch it and this sank without trace. It makes me envisage dancing by a big swimming pool in a summer evening with a cocktail in my hand, glorious. P.S., just realised this was my 50,000th post! What a post for that to be. Edited December 24, 201410 yr by mr_aly
December 24, 201410 yr Congrats on 50,000 posts :cheer: I quite like faded, definitely one of the better dance tunes this year. Human is beautiful and spectacular and Neon Lights is a great track. Somebody to you is my favourite Vamps track so I'm glad to see that high  I'm also really surprised at you ruin me being that low :o Anyway yay that its here as it is such a beautiful track
December 24, 201410 yr I do recall you saying in that thread that it grew on you so I'm guessing that could contribute to it's lower placing than usual. Fabulous entries for The Vamps, Christina Perri, Demi & The Veronicas though. '2 On' is one song I'm struggling to get into despite the universal praise on this site :(
December 26, 201410 yr Author 30. The Magician Feat. Years & Years - Sunlight http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/42/The_Magician_Sunlight.jpg TFXlWfzW9Uo Fairly standard dance track really, but very feelgood and his voice just does things to me! Years & Years have another entry to come, but what is it and where will it be? 29. Kylie Minogue - Sexy Love http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/70/Kylie_Minogue_-_Kiss_Me_Once_(Official_Album_Cover).png GbAwvJkzjWU A tale of seduction with some added Kylie cheekiness, this has all the right elements for me! That funk guitar sound is glorious in this. It's my favourite album track from Kiss Me Once, however she does have two more entries to come. Stay tuned! 28. Cash Cash Feat. Bebe Rexha - Take Me Home http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/13/CashCashTakeMeHome.jpg wvzfOyW0ZMo No idea who Cash Cash are, but I fell in love with this catchy slice of dance/pop and its soaring vocals and it reached the UK top 5 in April. Bebe has become a recent obsession of mine and has my most anticipated forthcoming album (if it gets released). Bebe also has another entry still to come! 27. Sub Focus - Turn Back Time http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1e/Sub_Focus_Turn_Back_Time.jpg iEXSxUraLCI Going right back to the start of the year now with a track that deviates from Sub Focus' usual style, an anthemic monster of a house track and THAT drop! *.* 26. Ella Eyre - Comeback http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/27/Ella_Eyre_-_Comeback_(Official_Single_Cover).png KnnvfHz7qzA Ella is somebody of very limited interest to me, but this is hit the spot. Ballsy, brash and aggressive, 'Comeback' sees Ella slam an ex-lover who did her wrong and makes sure he'll never want to come within a 50 mile radius of her again. The way she says "motherfucker" with such venom is one of my favourite pop moments of 2014. 25. OneRepublic - If I Lose Myself (Alesso Remix) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d7/If_i_lose_myself_cover_art.jpg dLa_ryRjC7M This was something of a miracle for me, a band I usually thoroughly despise managed to come up with something thoroughly enjoyable (not just because of the remix either, the original song is strong in its own right). The remix is lovely though, I like the way it builds. 24. Iggy Azalea Feat. Charli XCX - Fancy http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/94/Iggy_Azalea_-_Fancy.png O-zpOMYRi0w Well here it is, undoubtedly the song that changed Iggy's career and reversed her fortunes. I did hate this at first, but it wasn't long before this weaved its wicked spell on me. Argubaly one of the catchiest songs of the year and that intro is immediately recognisable. 23. Martin Garrix & Jay Hardway – Wizard http://eurohittop40.ru/images/discs/1123379/1123379.jpg KnL2RJZTdA4 This is essentially a clone of 'Animals', but still a complete barnstormer. After this his formula did wear a bit thin for me though, he's a one trick pony. 22. Kylie Minogue - Glow http://d1ya1fm0bicxg1.cloudfront.net/2014/09/promoted-media-optimized_5426e4eb41be0.jpg K4r0G2A8HU8 In September, Kylie did an EP with Fernando Garibay (Lady Gaga etc.) consisting of 4 tracks to be used in a short film used in the Kiss Me Once tour. Some of these tracks were better than most of Kiss Me Once, with this glorious soaring pop masterpiece being the best of the bunch (also 'Break This Heartbreak' and 'Wait' are very much worth listening to as well). That chorus is a belter, totally Kylie at her best. 21. The Veronicas - Cold http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/99/The_Veronicas_-_The_Veronicas_(Official_Album_Cover).png JnIVQm4EiLw Annoyingly, I can't find a decent version of this song on YouTube or Soundcloud. f***ers. Anyway, this is the highlight of their new album for me and I've been dying for a studio version of it since they performed it live years ago. MUST be a future single! P.S. sorry if my reviews are lame, I have a boxing day hangover which is stifling my brain power.
December 27, 201410 yr Great to see Natalia Kills  It still pains me she hasn't made it yet, the album is brilliant! Especially Saturday Night, that easily would have been a hit for say Lana Del Rey.
December 27, 201410 yr Fancy is definitely one of my favourites this year, such an amazing song  I really like the vocals on sunlight and comeback is amazing, still can't believe this didn't breakout :(
December 29, 201410 yr Author 20. Moko - Your Love http://lareputada.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/moko-your-love-296x296.jpg _xai1-qT4uA This is a 90s influenced house track like many this year, but I feel this offers something more than most. The vocal, character, intricate production set this apart for me, plus I love her hair and the star quality she exudes in the video. This deserved to do something, hopefully it can get another chance one day (although doubtful). 19. Say Lou Lou - Everything We Touch http://illogicalcomputer.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/1-say-lou-lou-everything-we-touch.jpg TtRYHdfxtoE Sparkly 80s inspired electro pop from these two promising ladies, another one like the above which undeservedly sunk without trace. I really hope we actually get their album in the end, it has potential for brilliance. Also worth checking out: The Chainsmokers remix of 'Julian'. (Don't be put off by the fact it's The Chainsmokers, it's about as far removed from '#SELFIE' as you could get). 18. MK Feat. Alana - Always (Route 94 Remix) http://defected.com/media/_thumbnails/images/always_(route_94_radio_edit)_1500x1500_box8.jpg rU6p_-m1VYU Anthemic house tune from the summer, I always loved it but since it became synonymous with nights out in a certain part of London my love for it has grown even more. DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR LOVE IS DOING TO BE BABY? DO YOU KNOW HOW I REALLY FEEL FOR YOU? 17. Ella Henderson - Ghost http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ee/Ella_Henderson_-_Ghost_(Official_Single_Cover).png tA8AfQaUnXM I sort of followed X-Factor in 2012 and thought Ella had potential, but I never get invested in these acts unless they manage to impress me with something they do beyond the show. I knew 'Ghost' was something special from the first listen, and I'm sure everyone involved knew they were onto a winner with this as well. 16. Gorgon City Feat. MNEK - Ready For Your Love http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/35/Gorgon_City_RFYL.jpg 8B93tgRxMuE Going back to the very start of the year now, this bass heavy dance track has stayed strong in my affections all year round to earn a respectable placing in my countdown. I had the pleasure of seeing MNEK perform as the support act for Kylie's iTunes Festival gig in September, he was very good and this went down a storm. It seemed to be the only one anyone knew in the audience from his entire set though, bless him.
