Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for the amazing thread very much enjoyed reading and commenting today :magic:
Yes, thank you to all of those who hosted this fantastic countdown. Happy new year all !

Didn't listen to the whole show but listened to most of the tracks before anyway

Thanks to al BJers for hosting their parts and BBC actual hosters for presenting the show :D

And an early Happy New Year to all, wishing some good tunes your way next year like this year :cheer:

Anyone care to gather up the lowest peaking/weeking/fast falling tracks of the list?

It's rather odd that streaming data didn't feature in this countdown~

Thanks to everyone who hosted this thread over the day! :cheer:

I'd really hoped Let It Go could push into the top 10 despite not actually making the official top 10 :(

And I still have absolutely no idea how Waves sold more than all but 3 songs this year :/ absolutely baffling.

It's rather odd that streaming data didn't feature in this countdown~

The presenters said - several times - that it did.

I'm still unclear if it was just streaming from the date on which streaming points counted for the chart, or since 1 January, which would make more sense.

If what we've listened to today changed the rules part way through the year, then it's a pretty meaningless chart, as well as not counting today's NYE sales, which famously changed the #1 album of the year (from Keane to Scissor Sisters?) a few years ago.

I'll wait for the official sales lists...

Thanks to all who have made this much more interesting than just listening to the radio.

Not so many thanks to those who just feel compelled to tell us whether they love/hate a song, with nothing else interesting to say. I don't care, and neither does anyone else. It just clogs up a very busy discussion.

Happy new year!

The OCC seem to be suggesting that streaming data is included - but based on what is in the following article, it is only from July onwards

http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...-revealed-3386/

The problem is that if that is true then it doesn't correspond to what Charts+ had last week (if you check Vidcapper's thread you'll see) and for some weeks before when one assumed streams were also included- here's his list from last week http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t=0&start=0

Oddly the OCC article says that "Rather Be" ended up in second place on sales of 1.29 million and "Happy" on 1.62 million. If you add the 230k it sold last year then these figures are clearly just sales and not streams so it seems the OCC don't even know? :(

In short if streams were included the figures for "Rather Be" and "Happy" would be 1.5 million and 2 million not 1.29 and 1.85 which the OCC states here.

What gets me Ed Sheeran is on 1,01 here

And it also correlates to the OCC article,

The whole thing is one big mess, I just can't tell what is what now. I guess we never know the proper YTD chart. What includes what and what doesn't

I was thinking more that it's (download and physical) sales only up to the end of June and then sales + streaming sales from July onwards. The Ed Sheeran sales total for 'Thinking Out Loud' (at number 5) is a combination of both sales + streaming sales. The figure for 'Happy' would also suggest sales only to the end of June and then sales + streaming sales since July - the single had sold 1.288m copies to the end of June on downloads only while 'Rather Be' was on 0.977m copies at that point. The additional sales from July onwards for both the last titles must include sales + streaming sales from that point onwards.

I think the Charts+ YTD chart has been based on sales + streaming sales (the latter backdated to the beginning of the year) since streaming was introduced in July.

Edit: having just re-read what I posted, I'm not sure I now even agree with myself! The additional sales since July for both Pharrell and Clean Bandit with streaming sales added to downloads don't add up!

I'm sure the OCC know what they are doing... it would be nice if they would let everyone else know what it is!

I thought streaming was getting backdated to the beginning of January to create a level playing field for this year? Maybe I imagined that?

Haha- as long as it isn't just me that has no idea how this list is constructed! :D

This list doesn't look right to me. After reading vidcapper's threads all year, some of these songs are too far off.

Looking at the list, it does seem the most likely explanation is that streaming from the first half of the year hasn't been counted. I say this because songs from the first half of the year like Dark Horse, Let It Go, Drunk In Love, etc. are lower than I expected.

HOWEVER, remember the year-end charts played on Radio 1 haven't always been the same as the official ones. There've been years where they've done it a week early for example. Hopefully the official one will include streaming from the whole year, as I think it's fairer and it's always a bit messy doing a year-end chart for a chart that changed its rules halfway through.

It was supposed to be getting backdated but perhaps that was only for sales comparison purposes for weekly and quarterly sales throughout the year? However it looks like the OCC have been providing UKC+ with a revised YTD chart with streaming sales included, backdated to the start of the year.

Hopefully it will come out in the wash, but yes very confusing- well done to the OCC once again

I wish they did this as a pure sales chart rather than this. The fact it only adds streaming from July just skews the figures towards the second half of the year which doesn't seem right.

Hopefully next years won't be such a mess.

Maybe they could have made this the official+streaming (whatever they did counting the stream change in June), and posted another top 100 on just sales and one on streaming?
