February 4, 201511 yr Yeh true Gav and i am fully behind the point you made about radio 1 breaking artists in comparison to other stations but my point was the reluctance to believe in a specific hit like TMTC & HBTR upon original release. On the point of the record company choosing to rerelease I'm not sure whats happening with the James Bay campaign now as I thought LIG was the pre album single but considering the album isn't out until 30/3 they are maybe readding HBTR now due to its obv popularity and it's rise up the chart with the Sound of award and Heart adding it which seems to have a big effect and maybe they'll add LIG in March?! The record company have sent it back out to radio as most have started playing it due to him being the winner of the Critics Choice award at the Brits. I guess 'Let It Go' will come late March now.
February 4, 201511 yr What are you talking about? If it wasn't for Radio 1 we wouldn't of even heard of the likes of Hozier or James Bay and a lot of other artists in fact. The likes of Capital don't break many hits, they jump on the bandwagon after Radio 1 have done the hard work and continue to support the tracks. They do it because that's Radio 1's job and is what they do best - to introduce new music and the next big thing. Yes it's frustrating that the more established artists can sometimes be snubbed, but there's only limited capacity on the main playlist and I do think that there are times the team have to make very hard decisions. It's up to the record company if they make an artist re-release a track. I think it makes sense to focus on 'Hold Back The River' now whilst the demand is there and release the follow up track in a few months. I agree that Radio 1 support many new acts. However, It's also been the reverse in some cases too though. For Example, Neon Jungle were given huge Capital hype and Radio One only jumped behind them after the success with Braveheart. I think both James Bay and Hozier had hype beforehand (Hozier was becoming quite successful in the US and James Bay was labelled as the next best thing this year) which kinda gave Radio 1 the push to support them. February 4, 201511 yr Wow. That has got to be the most bizarre playlist ever for new additions. Not going to say anything that hasn't already been said, except I really thought Maroon 5 and Axwell Λ Ingrosso would have been definite adds this week. Hopefully this means a massive clearout next week. James Bay, Alt-J, The Vaccines, Lion Babe, Nothing but Thieves, Soak, Sundara Karma for me this week  So that's basically all of this week's new additions then

Yeah, Radio 1 generally tend to break new indie type acts such as Hozier and James Bay, whereas commercial stations tend to break new pop type acts such as Neon Jungle and The Vamps.

February 5, 201511 yr That sets it up for FIFTEEN weeks (top 200) from streaming only. Indeed if it keeps rising it'll hopefully go top 20 before downloads. But they'll push it forward if it's doing ridiculously well.
