February 4, 201511 yr The James Bay re-addition is v odd as noted in the R1 discussion thread ~ Major yawn at all of this. 'Tuesday' climbing onto the main playlist is pretty much the only thing of interest. 'Nasty' looking like it's stalling on the B-List? :(
February 4, 201511 yr That Lion Babe song is ~2 years old i believe so an odd one to be getting a push now (especially as NEW music ). It is fantastic though, and one i considered sending to BJSC.
February 4, 201511 yr Shame Sheppard still haven't got added but I'm certain in thinking that will get snubbed. They might well be sheep and add it if it does well chart wise which also is uncertain. Not expecting G.R.L. to get added either but a bit surprised Kelly and Maroon 5 are yet to be added. Probably not for Kelly now which is disappointing as they have played it several times and Sugar is outperforming Animals by a large margin so it must have a late impact date in March. February 4, 201511 yr All in all a very boring playlist update. I guess I was right when I said they wouldn't add Kelly that late. Wasn't expecting them to snub Maroon 5 though - especially as it's looking to be a pretty big hit for them and they supported the rest of he era - strange. I'm glad 'Tuesday' has been moved up onto the *real* playlist at least.
February 4, 201511 yr Author 'Hold Back The River' being re-pushed (presumably) actually seems like a pretty smart move. It just re-peaked recently, now with that extra airplay the single could easily climb into the top 10 / top 5 by the time the album's out. a similar case to Take Me To Church where it doesn't feel like the track has reached its full chart potential yet~ odd playlist for the most part. 'Handsome' was an obvious addition, and none of the rest were that surprising ('Hold Back the River' aside, mainly because I thought 'Let It Go' was the next single ). Quite surprised not to see 'Sugar', 'Mirror Man' or 'Julia' on there (obviously these will be added at some point, since there's no chance they'd snub Maroon 5/Ella/Jungle for no good reason. a lot of these post-album releases are quite 'up in the air' when it comes to impact dates~) nice to see Lion Babe on the playlist though, good track!
February 4, 201511 yr Treat Me Like Fire and Sea Creatures are both good tracks if both quite old by now, nice to see them on INMWT anyway. Pleased to see Nothing But Thieves on there as well although I need to get around to listening to that track.
February 4, 201511 yr Hurrah for Avicii , David Guetta , Alex Adair , and Years & Years , moving up the playlist! :cheer: Otherwise a terminally dull week for additions~ :nocheer:
February 4, 201511 yr James Bay, Alt-J, The Vaccines, Lion Babe, Nothing but Thieves, Soak, Sundara Karma for me this week  However the lack of Variety in the new enteries is so annoying, They snub Kelly Clarkson even know the DJ's have played her and have had Jungle and Ella Henderson as TOTD yet they dont clear out the playlist?? I really hope they clearout the playlist next week as it is so annoying that only 3 new entries have made the main playlist when there could have been so much more. Poor Kelly though :(
February 4, 201511 yr They've made some really odd playlist decisions recently & its not like they can say its a lack of new stuff, theres quite a bit they could have added. Surprised they haven't added Flo Rida and the Avener too, especially with the latter being big in Europe and recently being the TOTD. I am not overly surprised with Sheppard. I still believe it will be a hit (in some form) but won't get pushed until its climbed further in the US. I would have thought it will just get postponed again though may be streaming will help it out? They better not snub Omi next week either. Its clearly going to be massive. EDIT: Omi now out 5th April so won't be playlisted yet. Edited February 4, 201511 yr by simonf
February 4, 201511 yr I'm starting to question the point of them having a playlist as I've listened to Radio 1 a few times and I've only heard about 3 of these tracks...they seem to have old You Me At Six tracks or Ed Sheeran or Hozier on repeat...maybe I just listen at the wrong times who knows Pretty dull list...good to see them backing Alex Adair, really hoping this can be huge I'm thinking a top 3 finish could happen!
February 4, 201511 yr Having Radio 1 playing in the office 9 - 5 every day means the playlist is VERY important to me! James Bay being re-added? Nah, f*** off. He's about as interesting as porridge. All just hype courtesy of Fearne Cotton and no actual substance or originality in his songs. YAY for Alex Adair, Years & Years and Avicii.
February 4, 201511 yr I can't see why Radio 1 will not support LuvBug - Revive (Say Something) ft. Mark Asari, Youtube views don't look to bad and Pre-order sales not to bad with Capital the only big station to give it real airplay.
February 4, 201511 yr That is one criticism of radio 1 for me is that they are too cautious - if they just believed in hits like Take me to Church and Hold Back the River they would do better first time round. James Bay gets a lot if recurring spins anyhow so IMO they should have just moved onto to potentially set up a massive bit that Let it Go could potentially be!

James Bay gets a lot if recurring spins anyhow so IMO they should have just moved onto to potentially set up a massive bit that Let it Go could potentially be! What are you talking about? If it wasn't for Radio 1 we wouldn't of even heard of the likes of Hozier or James Bay and a lot of other artists in fact. The likes of Capital don't break many hits, they jump on the bandwagon after Radio 1 have done the hard work and continue to support the tracks. They do it because that's Radio 1's job and is what they do best - to introduce new music and the next big thing. Yes it's frustrating that the more established artists can sometimes be snubbed, but there's only limited capacity on the main playlist and I do think that there are times the team have to make very hard decisions. It's up to the record company if they make an artist re-release a track. I think it makes sense to focus on 'Hold Back The River' now whilst the demand is there and release the follow up track in a few months. Edited February 4, 201511 yr by gavindeejay
February 4, 201511 yr Yeh true Gav and i am fully behind the point you made about radio 1 breaking artists in comparison to other stations but my point was the reluctance to believe in a specific hit like TMTC & HBTR upon original release. On the point of the record company choosing to rerelease I'm not sure whats happening with the James Bay campaign now as I thought LIG was the pre album single but considering the album isn't out until 30/3 they are maybe readding HBTR now due to its obv popularity and it's rise up the chart with the Sound of award and Heart adding it which seems to have a big effect and maybe they'll add LIG in March?!
