'Open Waters' and 'Yakety Yak' were pretty different sides of Beaverdonia but both so good *.* I am enjoying your entry this month a lot also btw!

 

I think it took me about 7 hours in total to make that, with all of the video downloading and editing that went with it to create just the right clips that were under 30 seconds. It was worth it tbh, I think it would usually take me about that amount of time just to write two sets of 10 for an EOY, because I always want to say so much :lol:

the nature of qualifying

 

So we had a pretty good feeling that our latest entry 'the nature of dying' by goreshit was going to make it off the back of all the hype. But you can never be sure, so it was fantastic to have an official announcement in Ashton tonight that we definitely did qualify for the BJSC 102 final! 'the nature of dying' marks our 25th qualifier to date out of a possible 29 so there's a milestone right there :o in addition to this, we also have the milestone of hitting a qualifying streak of 10 for the first time (with a run of: aYia / BÖ / Hugar / King Plague / MONOMOTION / Moth Equals / Zhanar Dugalova / Francis and the Lights / K Á R Y Y N / goreshit since BJSC 93) which is an excellent achievement! Thanks so much to all of the semi 1 people that supported us! We are in slot 25 in the final which is pretty cool for our 25th qualifier *.* please support us in the final now <3 the odds are looking pretty good... can we repeat 2016 and have back-to-back top 10s in the first two contests of the year? Shall have to wait and see.

 

The good news just kept on coming as ALL of our top 10 from semi 1 also made the final with us, incredible! :o In addition to this, 8/10 of our would-be semi 2 top 10 have made the cut too so it's going to be pretty hard to narrow it down to 15 favourites in the final. The two unlucky songs that missed out were courtesy of Skall who injected some swag with Kodak Black's 'Transportin’ and finished in 25th (a bit higher than we expected tbh), plus Persephonia who brought some idiosyncratic Español to semi 2 with 'Catalina' by Rosalía. This finished in 21st which was also a bit higher than we expected.

2017 was such a good year for Trifoski *.* three indeed and then a further two in my top 100, g'won x Hopefully another year of stanning lies ahead as I have enjoyed your first two entries of the year quite a bit!

BJSC 102 Results

goreshit - the nature of dying

 

 

Tonight in Ashton we found out where our intense breakcore instrumental placed in the BJSC 102 final. We can happily report back that we smashed it in 6th place with 239 points! We are over the moon that an entry of this ilk attracted so much love. Up with breakcore. We were hovering around the 8th place mark with 156 points before the DNQ voters switched things up, as we were catapulted up to 6th place post-jury, with a further 83 points! The jury sure has been kind to us this year. Plus that time in Reinvention when we were the Poland of the spinoff. 'the nature of dying' marks our second 6th place finish after the first time was exactly two years ago in BJSC 82, with 'WVFFLIFE (CHVRN Remix)' by BLVCK CEILING. We have already doubled the amount of top 10 finishes that we acquired in 2017 (just the one with BÖ's 'Waqqaberry') as this takes us up to a total of 11 top 10 finishes to date. This is also the third time we have achieved back-to-back top 10s (following K Á R Y Y N's 10th place last month), after 81 and 82 (Sonia y Selena - 'Yo Quiero Bailar' and BLVCK CEILING - 'WVFFLIFE (CHVRN Remix)') and 87 and 88 (FM-84 - 'Arcade Summer' and MssingNo - 'Scope'). It was also revealed during the ceremony that we finished in 8th place in the semi (with 66 points) so hooray for smashing that projection, when we thought semi 1 was the preferable semi! This 8th place marks our 16th semi-final top 10 position to date. So, lots of cool things, but it doesn't end there :o As we also matched the most 18s that we've ever received! We previously obtained 5 for FM-84's 'Arcade Summer' and that happened once again this month. Thank you to Cowtermont, Persephonia, Séyetana, Summericia and Terra Avium who deemed our entry worthy of a top score! We even swapped at the top with Summericia *.* the medal positions did not end there as we also received a 15 from Cumulonimbia and a 13 from Dobago! Looks like it is good news for the 12 point system this month with all of those big points in the bag. We truly cannot believe how much of a success this has been!

 

Ojnoj have entered the competition for a LONG time but were yet to see a win in over 70 contests. Well... that was until this month when they scooped the title with 'Heart To Break' by Kim Petras! A huge congratulations to them. Our 15 managed to finish just behind them which was incredible! This was Alteria with the explosive '14U+14ME' by The Presets, a new personal best for the nation also. Our 18 was fantastic witch rave offering 'SVICIƉΣ GIRLS ƉɅNCΣ' by † CΛIN †, courtesy of Summericia. This was lagging outside the top 20 for far too long, for our liking. But thankfully the jury pulled it up to a very respectable 15th place! We can happily say that all of our top 3 placed in the top 15, as indie triumph 'The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows' by Gang of Youths, sent by Kluminican Republic, placed in 10th, following us doing so last month *.*

Watching the video with you in person was goals *.* and so was you witnessing me creating the first half of yours and helping me make editorial decisions :kink: Yay at Persephonia's dominance of my top 40 *.* x D: it was a shame that I couldn't fit any in my top 10 this year, but at least you were one of two nations to have 2+ songs in my top 20 (the other being Kluminican Republic with 3). Elena Temnikova - Kazalsya Strannym

 

 

Last night we took a trip to Tinnmark to find out the entries selected for BJSC 103! We can now announce that our 30th entry to the Buzzjack Song Contest is 'Kazalsya Strannym' by Elena Temnikova. She is a former member of Russian girl-group Serebro (she departed in 2014) who have been entered to BJSC a whopping 7 times and represented the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007, placing third. Temnikova was selected as a potential Eurovision entry for Russia last year but never quite got that solo moment in the contest, as the nation withdrew. So instead she can have her solo moment in the BuzzJack Song Contest, as unlike Serebro and Holy Molly, she has never been entered with her own material before. Serebro's last appearance in the contest was in BJSC 98 when they represented Daehun with the rather trashy 'Mi Mi Mi'. This is worlds apart from that though, as a pretty classy electro-pop song. 'Kazalsya Strannym' has been described as a 'potential club hit' and 'banger' on Wiwibloggs (although the verses are quite chilled) with a memorable foreign-language chorus and some accessible house-y production in places. The song is about a love that stays strong despite obstacles that a couple might face, if you do not speak Russian like me. We unleashed CROSSPARTY in the Reinvention spinoff back in 2016 but Temnikova is the first Russian artist that we have sent to the main contest. 'Kazalsya Strannym' is the second single to be taken from Temnikova's second EP Temnikova II. We hope you guys enjoy this electro-pop sound from Jadakissnia, as we continue to try and switch things up each month. Our entry can be found in semi 1 and we have drawn slot 11. Please support Jadakissnia and help to build our streak up to 11 (it would be mean not to when we're in slot 11, right?!).

Tonight in Tinnmark our 30th contest celebrations were halted, as unfortunately Elena Temnikova's 'Kazalsya Strannym' DNQed in 24th place with 30 points. :( This rips our longest qualifying streak of 10 entries to shreds as our first DNQ since SOLDOUT feat. GOOSE - 'Do It Again' in BJSC 92. This is our fifth DNQ to date, as we also did not qualify in 77 (Muhsinah - 'Luv w Luv'), 80 (Stranger Cat - 'Unzip Your Skin) and 86 (Tuna - 'Seret Aravi'). We are pleased for fellow nations Cor Lupus and Flynnonda who have made it for their 30th contest celebrations, however! We are also pleased that Dobago and Summericia have made it through with former potentials of ours (albeit for Unknown Pleasures in the case of the latter). We are a bit deflated right now but we hope to come back strong with a drum 'n' bass banger next time.
