Genesis Owusu - The Other Black Dog

Mosquetania's excellent hosting efforts recently came to an end when they presented the final results in true tension building style. We first heard from the BJSC 134 finalists and then the jury, made up of the DNQ nations, sealed our fate. It was good news for Jadakissnia as our entry 'The Other Black Dog' by Genesis Owusu finished in 15th place with 215 points! This is a unique position for us so we're now only missing 4th and 11th from the top 20. This is a 2 position rise from last contest and our second best of the year so far after 'strast' by Trudge placed in 5th at the very start of 2021. Genesis actually finished as high as 3rd in the semi also, with 106 points, wow! We're so thrilled that it connected enough with people for a respectable final finish. We received four medal positions on this occasion - a full 18 points from Séyetana plus silver medals from Fljótavík, East Rukahavian and Harmonica! Thank you for all of the love.

FARC took home the trophy this time with the mesmerising 'Take Hold Of Me' by Ane Brun. We awarded this entry 11 points so we're very satisfied with that winner. Congrats Jake! Niceland received the coveted 18 from us this time with an irresistible team-up of Schiller & Alphaville with 'Summer In Berlin'. This finished just ahead of us in the results in 14th place! Our silver then went to Arcodesia, who seem to regularly impress us when they enter, with the gorgeous Mind Against remix of 'The Prey' by Monolink. We would've liked to have seen that in the top 20 as well but it settled for 22nd. Our bronze was awarded to the equally faithful Fljótavík with their own edit of 'For You' by India Jordan, which has proven to be very addictive. Great to see us trading medals this time. They scraped into the top 20 at #20. So all in all not a bad month for our top favourites whatsoever and brilliant hosting, as aforementioned. We won't be forgetting this one any time soon!

Thank you to every nation that pointed Genesis:

18 - Séyetana

13 - Fljótavík, East Rukahavian, Harmonica

12 - Trifoski, Quintessa, Persephonia

11 - Chestoria, #00274E, Cumulonimbia

10 - ëledan, Utopia, Aesthetica

09 - Skall

07 - Terra Avium, Mulgracia

05 - Dobago

04 - Arcodesia, République d'Áskorza

03 - Ojnoj, Kathaldazia, Suedeonia

02 - Aeroche, D'yermak'er, Summericia

01 - Kluminican Republic, Zanmatony

BJSC 135

Yung Sherman - I D C (Evian Christ Remix)

This month we only went and sent the longest entry, clocking in at 7:46. There was a small 7 minute+ bloc in semi 1 actually, so we're right at home. Yung Sherman is a Swedish producer who is part of the artistic music group Drain Gang, also associated with the likes of Bladee and Persephonia alumni Yung Lean. Evian Christ has jumped on the remix of 'I D C' to take it to another dimension with dark, noisy, trappy flair. He's not new to BJSC as he was previously sent by N DNTN with 'Salt Carousel', but Yung Sherman is unique talent for the contest. Plus Evian Christ was sent before my time anyway so let's bring him back! This is an intense ride that doesn't hold back for those almost-8 minutes. Even with less than 2 minutes to go there's one final massive drop to take in. This semi does look like a good one for this kind of thing but we don't know until those results come in for good... so please support 'I D C' <3 we're obsessed right now.

Super late comment here - I was already familiar with Genesis Owusu but 'The Other Black Dog' had passed me by so I'm very thankful for that discovery! Just a shame it missed out on being our first 18 to Jadakissnia as it was very close...but was our 12 in the semi at least!

We made itttttt :wub: thanks guys for a 54th qualifier / 7th in a row! We've been drawn in slot #5 of the final ^_^

Also I propose Damiano David of Måneskin as our new Prime Minister as I barely even remember who my current one is :lol:

The group did a cover of 'Kiss This' by the Struts on X Factor Italia so that's a good enough initiation for Jadakissnia xo

Bellsprout is staying on as head of state - dream team!

This have grown massively with each listen :wub:

Soooo good to hear that Addy :wub:

Ooh how did you come across Genesis? *.* so glad I was able to introduce you to 'The Other Black Dog' :heart: your silver in the final and top semi marks were very appreciated!

X-Perience - A Neverending Dream

TBA

We were thrilled to reach the BJFestivalen final for the very first time this year on attempt #3! Our new Prime Minister Damiano David felt proud to see a noisy entry in the Italian language succeed so much. However, we have nothing particularly spectacular to report back on from the last few editions of the main contest. Instead we've faced diminishing returns! We finished top 30, then top 40, then DNQed. Our qualifying streak of 8 was sadly torn up due to finishing 20th during a month where the contest only permitted 18 qualifiers per semi, due to a dip in participants. Usually the threshold is top 20, aww! We have never experienced a DNQ streak before and really hope that stat doesn't change on this occasion. We'd been deliberating our next move and decided that 'A Neverending Dream' was the one after coming across it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. This is the second time that we've dipped our toes into the world of Eurodance following top 3 finisher 'I Show You Secrets' by Pharao two-and-a-half years ago. We finally discovered another song from the genre that wowed us as much as that did. 'A Neverending Dream' was released back in 1996 and became a top 10 hit in European countries such as: Germany, Hungary and Switzerland. However, it did not make a splash in the U.K. so this gem remained hidden for me for a long time. I also recently found out that Cascada released a cover version 10 years after the original. This iteration did make more of an impact in the U.K. but hardly set the charts alight, as it reached #46 here. I decided to send in a performance video to the contest as the audio is just taken from the studio version anyway and in better quality than other uploads. We hope you will enjoy this joyful step back into the #dancebloc from us! It can be found in semi 1, slot #16.

★ 1st: Jadakissnia: X-Perience - A Neverending Dream (264 points) ★ :w00t:

WE WON in St. Burbia!! Thanks so much everyone :wub: that's our second winner (following Rompasso - 'Ignis' in BJSC 117) and another low scoring one of exactly 264 points at that :kink: more fun stats: it's our 8th top 3 hit, 10th top 5 (woo a milestone) and 22nd top 10 hit - our second one this year following Trudge's 'strast' which finished 5th... with 264 points also :lol:

That's a second dance winner so the #dancebloc is clearly a comfortable place for us to be from time to time!

What a night... time to finally get some rest!

Jade congrats in here as well :cheer:

Curious to find out how did you come across 'A Neverending Dream'?

And kudos to you for actually submitting that performance video instead of music video...like I would never thought doing something like that myself :lol:

Thanks Addy! :cheer:

It was from watching a YouTube video with music clips in it - I'd like to say some sort of 'Best 90s Eurodance' one? I'm trying to find the video in my history from a couple of months ago but can't seem to so I don't know if it was taken down for copyright or something. A very random find anyway after hearing the clip and thinking it sounded catchy!

:lol: yeah I almost didn't send it (!) after coming across the music video and the sound quality not being great... then being satisfied with this upload :D

I’m predicting Jadakissnia to score lots of points!

:cheer:

So thrilled for Jadakissnia! I could have sworn that the last time you won was in a contest that I had participated in, but according the the awards medals, it came later on! :kink:

Like I said in the Discord chat, Zanmatony demands more of the same thing in the future from this fine nation. :wub:

Congratulations! :wave:

Oh yes you were on to something there *.* I was keeping my fingers crossed for top 10 (based on doing as well as top 3 with Eurodance before!) but never in my wildest dreams thought I had a winner on my hands! What a night, I didn't end up sleeping until about 3am because my brain was so overstimulated :lol:

Thanks for the kind words, Wardy! :heart: yeah it was about 2 years ago now in 117 so it's been a while since I last hosted (well, co-hosted in that case), time to get ready for that again!

The dancebloc is often kind to us so I'm sure we'll be back at some point B-)

BJSC 139

Darkov Strange - 0

So as the hosts of the current edition of BJSC I figured I'd better update this thread before it's over! This is the first time that Jadakissnia have taken the full hosting reigns in BJSC (after previous co-hosting stints with Mulgracia, Persephonia and The Actual Republic of Bellamia) and we're having a blast so far. Here is a recap video to preserve this contest forever (unless it gets taken down):

We were awarded Auto-Qualifier status this month off the back of our win with X-Perience's 'A Neverending Dream' last contest! We decided to completely flip things over, going from joyful Eurodance to classic dark Jadakissnia synths, it only felt appropriate during Halloween month. This entry is '0' by Darkov Strange which seems to be a right hidden gem as the video has less than 800 views :o it is classified as a mix of dark synthwave and industrial rock. Darkov Strange is an Estonian artist which is a brand new nationality for us also! The Jadakissnian people approve of the animated video too and we've really gone to town basing all of the graphics in this contest so far around it. Our previous auto-qualifiers have done pretty well - Ben Frost finished in 17th with 'Venter' and Active Child placed as high as 3rd with 'All Eyes On You'. Who knows how this one will fare? We've been drawn in slot #20 of the final - please support us if you're into it! We are enjoying all the final results prep so far and look forward to seeing how the voting evolves across the week.

Our AQ status meant that our Q streak was immediately back up to 2 after DNQing in 137 with Finnegan Tui, what a turnaround! The semi-final results went very well for our favourites on the whole as 19/20 of the Jadakissnian votes advanced, wow. AQ status meant that we got a say in both semi-finals and it was our 6 pointer in semi 2 - from Terra Avium - who fell foul to a DNQ </3 They were behind haunting yet soothing 3-track EP 'From A Distant Dream...' by Vancouver Sleep Clinic; they finished in a nail-bitingly close 21st place. Boo, hopefully they will receive Rejects redemption!

Oh yes Harry told me this as well - Hody keeping me in the know with all things Chip Skylark :cheeseblock: g'won x

Haven't posted in here for ages so here's what happened since October:

- Jadakissnia artist BLANCO (of 8th place in BJFestivalen 2021 fame) is currently taking part in Sanremo Festival 2022, alongside Mahmood, working together on a song called 'Brividi'! They're one of the hot favourites to win and then potentially go on to be Italy's Eurovision entry for 2022 so watch this space, our most Eurovision action since ONUKA were an interval act in Ukraine!

Our BJFest entry and the Sanremo entry:

Very different vibes to each other!

- BJSC 139: we completed hosting of this contest, relatively unscathed, and our spooky auto-qualifier '0' by Darkov Strange finished in 26th place with 142 points.

- BJSC 140: we moved on to a nu disco/pop foreign language entry next for our last of the year - this was 'P.R.I.D.E.' by Natalia Nykiel, an artist who had been sent twice before thanks to FSR Ashvia. Unfortunately this didn't quite set the contest alight either - finishing 32nd with 127 points.

- BJSC 141: new year, new Jadakissnia - except not really because spooky synth entries are very typical of us. However, unfortunately a DNQ during the first contest of the year is treading new ground for Jadakissnia! 'Creep' by Panther Modern finished in 23rd place in the semi.

Last time we DNQed we came back fighting with a winner so... onwards and upwards!

P.s. thanks to anyone who included any of our entries in their BJSC EOY countdowns - was great to see Genesis Owusu especially picking up the love!

A reminder of our 2021 entries:

131: Trudge - strast' {5th}

132: Sophia Bel - No More {30th}

133: Genoux Vener - Grand Coeur De Pierre {17th}

134: Genesis Owusu - The Other Black Dog {15th}

135: Yung Sherman - I D C (Evian Christ Remix) {26th}

136: YEИDRY - YA {31st}

137: Finnegan Tui - Once I'm Gone {DNQ}

138: X-Perience - A Neverending Dream {1st}

139: Darkov Strange - 0 {26th}

140: Natalia Nykiel - P.R.I.D.E. {32nd}

A very all over the place year but can't complain about a winner, a further top 5 and two other top 20s - this was enough to scrape into the EOY top 10!

For the brand new contest in Altyr Muunilinst we decided to try something different with hyperpop! This adorable pitched up version of Frou Frou's 'Let Go' has fallen foul to the death slot in semi 1, so we'd appreciate all the support we can get. The placing of doom has not stopped RontBet hype though and since this is supposedly the 'pop' semi maybe we'll be alright after all?

We were given the options of Peru and Romania and decided to represent the latter. Well, not exactly at first, as our initial choice was an artist from Greece by mistake, oops. But I soon found a Romanian dance back-up that I thought was good enough. However, I didn't quite realise its hit potential. Incredibly, for a third time, we have snatched a win away from Hendinia in a spin-off due to their non-voting. First in the 00s Dance spin-off, then the very first edition of Worldvision, now this. So we are two-time winners of Worldvision by default! Not bad for a back-up, eh?

The people of Jadakissnia were rather obsessed with this one. It was the first of our entrants in over two years to hit #1 in the Jadakissnian national chart. We got off to a false start this year, with our first ever DNQ in the opening contest of the year, but swiftly pulled it back with a more successful spooky synth entry this time. This finished in a very respectable 13th place!

Thank you to everyone who has supported our nation in 2022 so far :heart:

(p.s. I'm off to visit prime minister Damiano David in London next May! The jury is currently out on whether King Bellsprout will also be attending)

((also... 'Brividi' did end up being confirmed as Italy's Eurovision entry for 2022 yay! rooting for Jadakissnia alumnus BLANCO and the also very talented Mahmood))

Also hyping this one Jade, super cute and high replayability for me. Could certainly see it in the top ten!

Ahhh loving all this hype *.* Agreed, it's pretty adorable and addictive - was sold on first listen! Oh wow, let's hope so :o

We qualified for the final of BSJC 143 with o0o - Wedbecutetoget-her! Thanks so much to all who voted. We now build our Q streak back up to 2 after a shaky start to the year. Jadakissnia can be found in slot 29 of the final, once again hosted in Altyr Muunilinst.

We lost the following favourites:

Semi 1 votes

05 Mosquetania | Chambray | Someday (Feat. Rebecca & Fiona)

Semi 2 would-be votes

03 Singerpurear | The Undertones | You've Got My Number (Why Don't You Use It!)

Well, Rebecca & Fiona may have won the contest before, but unfortunately this one didn't quite catch on alongside Chambray. The Undertones are most known for their song 'Teenage Kicks' (yes, the one that 1D covered as part of a mash-up for Comic Relief) but this gem was a much more modest #33 hit. It missed out in a super strong semi, but did make it on to my '70s playlist!

Also, last year's YTD was belatedly revealed and we remained scarily consistent in terms of points!

2015: 42nd (409 points) {unadjusted = 28th / 979 points}

2016: 5th (2052 points)

2017: 11th (1821 points)

2018: 5th (1880 points)

2019: 10th (1630 points)

2020: 13th (1634 points)

2021: 10th (1685 points)
