March 24, 201510 yr Ahhhh it feels so good when your 12 pointer wins <33  Congrats Yu. Didn't even expect to be in this final so avoiding the bottom 5 is certainly good enough for me. Poor Ultra, gorgeous song that didn't deserve to come last imo, surprised that Desbuanda were right near the bottom too but eh, my favourite song of the contest won, can't have it all :P

March 24, 201510 yr Yasssss Yu! Glad to see you at the top there! And obviously thanks Caneron for this fabukous hosting! You did v well
March 24, 201510 yr Iz putting me 11th. Bitch better run. Or 18th. :D I think I'm going to have to make '11th to Aquafina' a THING in my commisserations from now on. Make Lee count. ~ Erm, well, interesting results. Yu's probably betting that I'm going to kick off about 'Raindrops' winning seeing as I've been shading him slyly for daring to enter it ever since he tried to last month and withdrew it before it actually got vetoed. And well, I don't particularly like it a) because it's a basic dance track that does nothing for me in the slightest and only serves to reinforce how low Kerli's sunk since the actually rather nice Zero Gravity, and b) it's the cheapest winner for a long time. But that's okay, I can live with that because I like Daehun and I normally give them loads of points, and at least they have one winner I can get behind already, this is probably just my 'Sadness Is A Blessing' (BJSC geek/veteran points if you get that reference), and I'm incredibly pleased that Oricon will be making FULL USE of his autoqualifier to send a properly risky track next month. :D Farc would have been a lovely winner but, well, close enough! 3 points out for a singer who prior to this month I only knew for inflicting one of the more dreadful and forgettable BJSC pop hoe entries upon us is NO BAD FEAT, and that paragraph by Jake is of course lovely, I love it when you know a song means something to someone, helps the meaning get there for me too. And of course I'm going to have to congratulate Lee for finally equalling my peak, it took him an age but he's up there with me now. ^_^ Other random points: YAY PRoJ and Klum for doing so well, was supporting the latter for the win at one point reading that through and it was really close. One day. Sheesh, poor Greenfroze, yet another track I nearly supported alone. And poor Ultra, didn't deserve last with that. On that note, oh dear, those semi 2 qualifiers did awful. I'm not sure whether I can now feel vindicated, or whether I want to pretend I was robbed of a potentially decent result given my song was not 'pop' like many of those were and wouldn't have gotten votes stolen by being similar. Guess it comes down to which song came 16th (oh dear god please don't let it be Greenfroze). Thank you Cameron for hosting this very well, and I'll be back with a banger next month to smash in Daehun (if he hosts). And finally: my top 2 were Danaelanda's bottom 2, kek
March 24, 201510 yr I think we've all at some point felt that the voting matches how FARC have described it there with some countries seemingly voting against what you'd expect them to. Sometimes it will just work out like that unintentionally - i almost feel like Jonjo's entry this time *should* have really appealed to me but i couldn't connect to it in the way I'd have liked to so it just fell short. I'd like to think it's a similar thing for other countries and not at all based on the poster behind the country! And i suppose on the flipside, sometimes a song you think will be DESPISED by a certain country ends up being very well received by them which is the reverse of this and always a pleasant surprise. So basically who knows... it certainly seems at times that there are hidden politics afoot but as it can never be proven, let's jut assume that people are being true to their ears and voting honestly.
March 24, 201510 yr I was suspecting Kylienips of being a bit anti-Klum Rep before this contest, and was expecting a snub from something that appealed to them, yet here I got 10 points! I don't think it's an issue that's ruining the contest just yet, but people should be aware that discovering great music is way more important than being successful in this contest or getting the approval of certain countries. I'd LOVE to see a contest where the countries/posters' is kept secret until the final results thread, just like UP but more inclusive
March 24, 201510 yr I hope people are voting with their ears. I really do. I choose to believe it even though I do have to question it a lot of the time (in fact several times while reading these votes), but I think the main thing is the majority of people just giving the contenders more time because they're contenders and if they're wide-appealing contenders it'll probably work. That isn't me saying ban odds talk by the way because I think that's a vital part of what makes this enjoyable, the talk about the entries and their chances, but my theory is that people are influenced in a way by the odds, and while some will be influenced in favour of the many underdogs, the majority will be influenced in favour of the few contenders, which heightens their chances. Plus there's the usual 'right, Aeroche/Daehun normally send good entries, better give this one a good chance' or dancebloc (replace with other 'bloc' if you want) people giving more chances to fellow dancebloc nations, or the worst sort of suspected influencing 'ah, don't need to bother much with this Tartford/Singerpurear entry, they always DNQ and this one will be no different'. I'm not saying anyone's meaning to do it, I know it exists and I try my best to avoid it, but there probably is subliminal bias for and against certain countries for everyone, and they'll change depending on who you are. Obviously the solution to that is to go unknown but I think that'd suck the discussion out of the contest even more than no odds would as well as making it simply a behemoth Unknown Pleasures.
March 24, 201510 yr I think it'd be quite refreshing to try it out (again?) for one month only. National threads would be quiet during that time of course, but odds/predictions could still occur, and discussion about the songs. I don't see why the discussion would dramatically reduce just because we wouldn't know which song belonged to which country. If anything I'd find that more intriguing!
March 24, 201510 yr What's with thisvoting for names instead of songs tho? Can someone who "sees" this please expand on this, because as far as I can see people vote for the countries with very similar entries/taste to them? E.G. I vote for Dan a lot, mainly because his entries could've been my own and I really don't think it;s fair to "accuse"(lack of a more fitting word right here) people of not voting for the songs based on things like that EDIT: Anyway, I am 90% sure on my entrant and its v Azealia Banks Edited March 24, 201510 yr by *Tim
March 24, 201510 yr I certainly don't see the "oh it's Daehun and I like them thus I'll give their entry a bit more chance" thing
March 24, 201510 yr Congrats to Daehun! Nice job hosting too Cameron, shame Bignia did so poorly but I guess it's not standard Buzzfare. Great to see FARC do so well, a place higher would have been better! RontBet off pace once again indeed.
March 24, 201510 yr To wade in on the debate, just because a song doesn't feature in somebody's top ten doesn't mean it's not to their taste, especially when many of us end up liking or loving 20+ entries a month. We just don't have enough points to award to everything. Similarly, I really wouldn't ever expect something to show up in somebody's votes, there are a multitude of reasons why people may not connect to certain songs from genres they usually like. For example on paper I'm sure I should be expected to love the Dinah Nah song from Melodifestivalen like everyone else does but for some reason it just doesn't strike a chord with me and if it was a BJSC entry I wouldn't vote for it. On the other hand I'm not sure that I SHOULD be expected to love Flo Rida's Once In A Lifetime and Bills by LunchMoney Lewis, yet they're both top four in my current chart
March 24, 201510 yr I'm not going to say that voting based on country never happens at all, but I don't see any evidence that it's a major problem that distorts results in a meaningful way. You need only to look to last month's winner to see that a good song will smash regardless of who sends it - Hushkanukia opened with five DNQs but then won on their sixth attempt, and not by a small margin! Plus as Lee already pointed out, Altyr Muunilinst managed to come LAST in their semi, and FSR Rontvia only just ahead. Okay so Tartford were down there as well but it's not like that was anti-Tartford bias, their entry this month was extremely against the BJSC norm (and I say this as someone who voted for it). Anecdotal evidence aside though, of course people are going to largely vote for some countries more than others, simply because of more closely aligned music taste. And considering this is a MUSIC forum, those countries people vote for more than others are more likely to be people they are friends with than not, because music taste is pretty much the main thing people bond over on here. I joke about Ethanola always giving high points to Danaelanda, but how can you expect them not to when they have pretty much identical music taste? Same argument applies to pretty much all other apparent 'voting blocs', including some involving myself. The previous 'unknown' BJSC ultimately ended up with most people voting for the same countries as ever IIRC. There was a reason they didn't carry on with that concept.
March 24, 201510 yr Oh, I wasn't saying it DOES happen. I'm just saying that it has popped in my head more times than it perhaps should for something like this and I can't help but feel that sometimes it does play a factor and when someone has questioned it, I will back them up and say what I thought about the situation too. That's all for me!
March 24, 201510 yr I have noticed it but only because of other people mentioning it (i.e. as Bre pointed out when he jokes about Ethanola/Danaelanda (refusing to uppercase that)). If no-one mentioned anything about bloc-voting I don't think it would be as noticable. I admit that I've given more than my fair share of points to Aeroche this last year (I think out of 10 contests they've had four or five 12s) but I don't see it as "voting on the name", it just happens to be that at this moment in time they are sending songs that appeal to me more than others. On the other hand, I really don't like generic "pop" or slow, quiet songs but (last time I checked) I found myself either top or very close to the top of Tartford's list of votes received; so that is DEFINITELY not based on which country it is!
March 24, 201510 yr I certainly don't see the "oh it's Daehun and I like them thus I'll give their entry a bit more chance" thing  Just an example of a currently popular country Yu. This can work the other way too if you're an underdog fan but there are less of them. The more awareness people have that this exists, the more likely they'll try and make sure everything's equitable. In my mind anyway. That's why I went into detail when I do on principle agree with pretty much what Bré's saying, it exists but I'm sure most people are voting on quality alone and it's a small effect if anything. Just with me that means I'm voting for a completely different list of countries every contest so it's quite hard for me to wrap my brain around someone continually liking a country's entries well enough for big points every month, even my favourite and most consistent countries don't really get to that level.
March 24, 201510 yr Yeah I wouldn't say 'political'/bloc voting has that much of an effect here, it's more noticeable in actual Eurovision than here and I'm not even one of the "eurovision's all political though isn’t it?" people. I for example love Aeroche as a country and they entered a dance song and I didn't give it any points (it made my top 15 though but that's not the point)
March 24, 201510 yr I certainly don't see the "oh it's Daehun and I like them thus I'll give their entry a bit more chance" thing  If it makes you feel better, I actively don't listen to your songs because they're Daehun.
March 24, 201510 yr If it makes you feel better, I actively don't listen to your songs because they're Daehun. Well that's because you stink and you know it
