Tbh I would have won had Florina not been embarrassed in a war #Politics
In that case lemme rethink my decision of not joining the war :kink:

All caught up now~ (My God the first 10 pages or so were an absolute chore to read :drama: (through no fault of Cameron's)).

Was all excited towards the end of the results that Desbuanda could claim to have shared, in consecutive contests, the top two and bottom two with a country in their first ever final after five DNQs but then Pav cruelly random.org'd us into third-last place at the last minute! -_-

On a more serious note, I'm slightly disappointed with the low finish, despite having had plenty of warning from odds etc., just because 'Throwing Arrows' is perhaps my favourite of my entries -_-. That said, its appeal was quite wide, considering its position, with it picking up a fair few low points from various countries so I'm glad others liked it and I appreciate the votes. :D

I can't say I'm a fan of the winning track (in fact, it was the most forgettable of the final for me ) but congrats to Yu/Daehun all the same! Your success rate is incredible and I loved your last two entries so it's still great to see you win.

Very happy with the top 10 finishes for Aquafina, D'yermak'er, ProJ, Utopia but particularly Florina, whose song grew hugely on me and really outperformed initial predictions. I love a good dark horse.

Tinnmark had by far my favourite entry though and I guess #15 is a pretty satisfying result for it, considering the minimal hype. Cheers Jerick for the wonderful discovery!

Finally, well done Cameron on all your efforts! I can't imagine the amount of work that goes into hosting and you certainly seemed to put your all into it which was definitely appreciated. ^_^

That's some Bré level analysis right there ~

I think it'd be quite refreshing to try it out (again?) for one month only. National threads would be quiet during that time of course, but odds/predictions could still occur, and discussion about the songs. I don't see why the discussion would dramatically reduce just because we wouldn't know which song belonged to which country. If anything I'd find that more intriguing!

(I am not solely responding to the above quote, but to all the points raised in general as well as the specifics in this post.)

We did the anonymous thing for the 29th contest. I was the only person who knew who was who right up until the results were announced. Everyone was given an SE-QLD suburb as an alias.

The voting patterns were pretty much bang on normal. Any slight variance from the norm that may have occurred just isn't worth the huge drop off in activity that we suffered.

I'm not going to defend BJSC as perfect or try to deny that there is bloc-voting, because neither would be true. The reality is that a lot of our participants do have vastly overlapping music taste so it's natural that there will be an element of bloc voting. Taste is so subjective that perception of others votes relies entirely on your interpretation of their taste and that's never going to be an error free process. I can honestly say that while my eyebrow may have been raised from time to time, there is no voting pattern that really concerns me as BJSC mod. It is something I do think about though.

One thing that does concern me is the PM culture though. I've never been a big fan of it. The framework has been altered so that it is only exceedingly well known songs on buzzjack that are going to get points for charts or thread length. Nothing discussed in the BJSC forum counts towards the veto framework. We do research into every song entered so chattin about them in your national thread isn't going to draw our attention to it in any way. It'll be given the same level attention every song gets at the initial veto stage. I dislike it because it drags activity out of the forum. While we don't want you to say what you've confirmed, we do want you to discuss things in here. So maybe the confirmation process and how that is communicated is something we need to look at.

What Jake is referring to with the connection to his song and the discoveries is exactly what this contest is about. It's not about making the final or finishing first, it's about discovering amazing new songs. Too much emphasis gets put on chasing trends and desperately attempting to be successful by some nations and that's just not what BJSC is about.

I don't vote based on countries, but when i'm doing my final rank if I have a group of 8/10's then i'm going to push the discoveries to the top and the ones that have just scrapped by the veto to the bottom of that group. I don't usually do commiserations but this month there were a lot of songs I would like to have scored at least a 6, those were the ones that were mentioned. Doesn't mean I didn't like Ramrynia's track, just that I thought there were other songs that were better.

I see, thanks for explaining Silas! If it's something that just doesn't work then that's fine.

Any sign of the semi+final scoreboards? :teresa:

Here are the tables

I am not sure how accurate the Final table is so if you spot any mistakes please tell me, BUT, The final number is correct as it is the number that both me and Bre counted live on the night :)

Did Utopia get a semi final deduction??

Oh They did, I edited their score back in when double checking there as I forgot, my mistake

Edited by Cameron

Oslol's score in that screenshot seems to be higher than that of Jayrusalem which worried me for a second :magic: But I added up all the numbers in the spreadsheet itself and it seems to add up to 59 for Oslol... so I think Jayrusalem's Q is correct. It's hard to tell though. Hmm.

;o at 'Treat Me Like Fire' only just scraping through though. And Bellamia winning the semi?!

wot even at Jayrusalem and Thelonia being the beneficiaries of the upgraded final, thought they'd have easily qualified especially Jay!

Danaelanda just scraping the semis in 14th too makes our 16th place finish look great

:drama: thank gosh I am not a mathematician  Although I used the adder in google Docs to double check so I don't know what's going on :(

HA! 12 swap with Hendinia in the Semi's then a nil points swap in the final! Don't feel so bad about putting them 11th now.

interesting comments, and I pretty much agree all round. I'm here because I pick up SO many brilliant tracks I wasn't aware of, and I like the opportunity to plug my own faves old and new. And it's fun! :yahoo:

Wow thanks for the 12 Thelonia  hopefully I will be in love with your next entry

And thanks for the 7 Aquafina

Bad dan
