October 9, 2024Oct 9 Author Former Sheffield United defender George Baldock has died at the age of 31. The England-born Greece international was found dead in the swimming pool of his house in Glyfada, southern Athens. Police attempted to resuscitate Baldock at the scene but he could not be revived and medical emergency units confirmed his death, Reuters news agency reported, citing a police official. Baldock had joined Greek side Panathinaikos in the summer after seven years at the Blades. Sheffield United expressed their shock at the news, saying: "The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with supporters, staff and team-mates who pulled on a red and white shirt alongside him. October 24, 2024Oct 24 Author Geoff Capes, the British shot put record holder and two-time world's strongest man, has died aged 75. Capes set the record for the longest shot put by a British man with a distance of 21.68m in 1980. In a statement, Capes' family said: "The family of Geoffrey Capes would like to announce his sad passing today, 23rd October. "Britain's finest shot putter and twice world's strongest man." Capes had an illustrious career, twice winning gold in the shot at both the Commonwealth Games and the European Indoor Championships. He was a three-time Olympian and came closest to winning a medal with a fifth-place finish at the 1980 Games in Moscow. Capes, who was born in Lincolnshire, was

Dickenson, a two-time Olympic hammer thrower, specialised in athletics and sliding sports for over two decades with BBC Sport. December 10, 2024Dec 10 Author Police fear former England rugby international Tom Voyce has died after he went missing in an area of Northumberland which was flooded during Storm Darragh. Northumbria Police began its search on Sunday lunchtime when the 43-year-old did not return home from an evening with friends. It is suspected Mr Voyce attempted to cross Abberwick Ford, near Alnwick, in his car which was then pulled along by the current of the river. Officers have since recovered the vehicle, but a force spokesperson said: "It is believed in his attempts to escape he has been swept away and tragically died."

January 31Jan 31 Author John Hales, one of the leading British-based jumps owners of the last 40 years, has died at the age of 85. Trainer Paul Nicholls announced his death on social media on Friday morning, with the Grand National, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Supreme Novices' Hurdle among many great triumphs the two men shared during a long association. Nicholls said: "It is with great sadness to report that John Hales passed away last evening. A great man and a fantastic owner and friend for many people. Thoughts with his wife Pat and his wonderful family. He will be missed by so many in racing. RIP John."
