Just popped up on my Facebook, RIP Paul Madeley. Seems like he was an indispensable player for us in the 70s.

He was a great player. With multiple substitutions, there just isn't the need for players like him any more. With today's rules he may have been seen as not quite good enough in any position to have made it to the top.

Olympic cross-country skiing gold medallist Vibeke Skofterud has died in a jet-skiing accident at the age of 38.

 

The Norwegian won 4x5km relay gold at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010 and was also a two-time world champion in the discipline.

Former WWE superstar Brian Lawler has died aged 46.

 

Lawler, who competed in the WWE under the name of Grandmaster Sexay and elsewhere in professional wrestling as Brian Christopher, reportedly attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself in his jail cell outside Memphis.

 

Nikolai Volkoff has passed away as well.

Such a tragic few days for sport as a whole :(

Former Aston Villa chairman Sir Doug Ellis has died at the age of 94.

 

Ellis had two spells as chairman of the West Midlands club, with the second one running from 1982 to 2006.

RIP commentator Peter Brackley aged 67, he commentated on Channel 4's Football Italia, ITV and Sky. He worked at four World Cups for ITV and two European Championships, and provided the commentary on Pro Evolution Soccer.

 

 

R.I.P Peter Brackley. I remember him from Pro Evolution Soccer video games and coincidently I've been playing my old PES 6 game today. His voice was one of the most distinctive in football commentary.
