It felt a lot bigger in 2005 than it was in 2000, despite the chart peaks (#16 in 2000, #33 in 2005) - the re-release was on the back of it being used for the London Olympic bid. Difference is that the singles market was absolutely dead by then compared to five years earlier, although it did get a physical re-release.

Voting has now closed, so let's take a look at what 10 songs have made it through to the final 75. We'll start with 2000:

 

In fifth place, Mary Mary with their #5 smash 'Shackles (Praise You)', which beats Vanessa Amorosi into the final by just two points (Rich cries)

 

 

In fourth and also progressing to the final is the first of two trance songs from 2000 to make it, the #2 hit and only hit single by any definition for Zombie Nation 'Kernkraft 400'

 

 

In more gooddelta friendly news Andreas Johnson starts off the top 3 with the #4 hit 'Glorious'. Apparently he's tried to represent Sweden in Eurovision 6 times, including as recently as this year, but never won their selection process (oops)

 

 

Disco classic 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)' by Spiller, who is most famous for being really tall and for making this song. He got to experience both sides of the chart, with this song going to #1, and his follow-up only reaching #40. It was also the breakthrough song for Sophie Ellis Bextor and famously beat Victoria Beckham to #1 (which Michael/Beaverhousen is still v. annoyed about 15 years later)

 

 

The #1 then goes to Delerium, whose 'Silence' scores over 100 points (the only song in 2000 to do so). The song reached #73 in 1999 but thanks to a remix from DJ Tiesto it re-entered at #3 the following year.

Now we go to 2001 and see which 5 songs qualified:

 

In fifth place is The Supermen Lovers 'Starlight', which was very unlucky to miss #1, as it was stopped by Bob The Builder, and not even the song he's known for but with a cover of 'Mambo No. 5'.

 

 

In fourth, and the only qualifier that isn't a dance song, is Kate Winslet, mostly known for being an actor but she had one song too. 'What If' from some film which UV will probably post multiple cheer and wub emoticons for it getting through.

 

 

Starting the top 3 is a trance classic and my personal faveee from the list. PPK 'Resurection' had enough appeal to get through even without my vote though so yay for that.

 

 

Rui Da Silva 'Touch Me' went to #1 but he never had another chart hit, the song has clearly stuck in people's minds though as it is the #2 here.

 

 

And unsurprisingly Roger Sanchez 'Another Chance' is #1, which scores over 100 points here. It finished 3rd in Buzzjack's Ultimate Dance last year so it is a strong contender for the win in the final.
