In the forlorn hope of changing a few minds. :teresa:

Change minds to what? To allow the super rich to enslave everyone? They pretty much want more power and more money and squirrel it away in offshore accounts in one big mutually supporting clique. That includes most Tories farage most right wing press owners. That's why they all socialise. Mutual back scratching and job sharing.

Still if you want to remain self deluded it's a free country - though not for lack of Tory trying. :teresa:

That was a tactical voting blip and you know it.

Not necessarily - rural areas anywhere in the UK are potentially fertile ground for Tories, and they did use to be strong in just the areas they regained recently.

OK, you've demonstrated that you've read Karl Marx, and the use of hyperbole. ;)

Seriously though, surely you can't be suggesting that all of the 43% that voted Tory are 'fat-cats'?

As for power-seeking, that's what *all* politicians want, including Corbyn.

Never read Karl Marx much more of a fan of groucho marx.

There is a very big difference between politicians and rich friends looking for ways to make THEMSELVES richer and those who seek power for a decent fair society in order to stop selfish rich people keeping power.

People vote Tory for many reasons - ignorance selfishness better pension protection running a small business not wanting to be taxed etc etc

Life isn't perfect and it's a case of if you want a stable prosperous society then it requires give and take. Some people are lucky enough to do well in life - or selfishly ruthless one or the other - and some are unlucky. Some have themselves to blame some don't. I believe fellow human beings need love and understanding. That is not compatible with the conservative party.

Surprised it isn't worse for the conservatives after the election result and the Grenfell incident. With Brexit talks now beginning, it'll be interesting to see how they will affect the polls.
Unusual - it's normally the winners who get the 'honeymoon' period, not the losers.

In which case no one would be going up in the polls, which wouldn't really work statistically.

Indeed. I can't remember the main opposition party being ahead in the polls just days after the election. It may well have happened after one or both of the 1974 elections, particularly the first when the Tories won the popular vote but got fewer seats than Labour.

EDIT: I've just checked 1974. Labour were comfortably ahead in the polls after both elections that year.

Well many people do think that Labour "won"

I assume they learned Maths from Diane Abbott then... :P

Labour didn't win the numbers, but they won the narrative by outperforming, whereas if you are generous enough to call what the Conservatives have a victory, it's exceedingly pyrrhic.

Thing is, narrative and opinion is what matters in, funnily enough, opinion polls. I don't see Labour being able to hold the lead but I expect things to remain at least pretty even for the two main parties until the next election.

Corbyn now leading in the question 'who would make the best Prime Minister'

J. Corbyn: 35% (+3)

T. May: 34% (-9)

On other matters, on the question of who would make the best Prime Minister Jeremy Corbyn now leads Theresa May by a single point – 35% to 34%. This is the first time that Corbyn has led in the question – this is partially because of a sharp drop in Theresa May’s ratings (before the snap election she was consistently in the high 40s), but is also due to a significant increase in Jeremy Corbyn’s ratings. Again, if you look at the longer term ratings he used to be consistenty down in the teens.
Not every constituency is though, is it? Darlington has a majority of 3,000 and was a big Tory target. Bishop Auckland has a majority of 502. That's not even counting all of those in Tees Valley.

The North East is also trending from Labour to the Tories (outside of Newcastle and Durham) moreso than the rest of the country. That's why everyone was rightly a bit concerned when the first two or three results announced last Thursday night up there showed swings which weren't at all consistent with the exit poll.

Yeh Labour seemed to be able to ward off the challenge there and actually take seats in the south which weren't solidly labour hence the good night for Labour - seemed that things are turning on their head electoral wise as we move into the third decade of the 21st century with voters gradually changing loyalty. I said from the start tho and was right that northern ukip voters would vote ukip but without them on the ballot they wouldn't necessarily transfer to the tories like people thought as they hate the tories.

A over excited Corbynista got chucked out of QT on Thursday night in plymouth 😛
No, that wasn't me, Plymouth is waaay too far in the Deep South for me. There would be a Tory every 5 feet that far south!!!

Opinium (Observer)

CON 39%(-5), LAB 45%(+4), LDEM 5%(-3), UKIP 5%(+3)

Survation

CON 41%(nc), LAB 40%(-4), LDEM 7%(+1), UKIP 2%(nc)

Labour constantly in the low 40s by the looks. What a turn-a-round. :D
