Oh like Tulisa did?

Haha, yes. I was joking btw. But it does suck how Conor will miss the top 40. :(

I find it odd how artists Radio 1 hammer like Foo Fighters, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and Circa Waves don't do better with singles. I suppose it shows that stations like Capital and Heart are more influential and it's not the be-all-and-end-all if a song isn't playlisted by Radio 1.

Rock and indie singles don't tend to do well as stand-alone singles, but they do help the sales of the album, which is where most of the focus is. From 2007 onwards, rock artists tended to get a decent sized hit for their first single, with the post-album singles going nowhere, but with streaming it looks like they're not even going to have that any more.

Adam Faith's “What Do You Want?” is just 1 minute 38 seconds long, although recently the “We No Speak Americano” 2010 chart topper had a hilariously short 2:10 radio edit.
that doesn't really count as the version that was selling more was 4:29 :P

I would've thought the shortest No1's in the last 20 years are~

Robson & Jerome ~ I Believe (1995) 2:07

Mint Royale ~ Singing In The Rain (2008) 2:08

I think for Fifth Harmony a lower-selling #1 will be much more useful than a higher-selling #7 considering they are a brand new act. #1 will give them extra headlines, extra airplay, extra media coverage - you wouldn't get that with a #7 hit even if it sells more.

If we were talking Little Mix then a higher-selling #7 would be more beneficial in terms of getting more income as they don't have a brand to create, but a #1 for Fifth Harmony would be so so helpful in terms of promotion and them being able to have a long-term UK career.

Yeh you make a good argument for holding back for a no1 single and I agree somewhat but if the song is good enough it should chart high at any rate and then they should actually promote the song to get it to the top spot if it has that potential.

It would ensure a culture doesn't creep in (like the 90s) whereby record companies and acts have to create good songs and not release any old stuff.

To give Conor Maynard his due, Royalty is actually not bad. Innovative production from Labrinth (although what's new )

Nothing beats ding dong the witch is dead, mind you that peaked at #2

 03. Lean On (feat. MØ & DJ Snake) - Major Lazer

 13. Trap Queen - Fetty Wap

 21. Photograph - Ed Sheeran

 41. C'est La Vie - Stereophonics

 51. Uma Thurman - Fall Out Boy

I assume Stereophonics were on Jools this week? Hence the rise to 41, would love them to get a top 40 hit again!

If next weeks NE are predictably low peaking it will be interesting to see the battle between Major Lazer, Omi & Jason even if the sales will be only around 50k!

Trap Queen coming for the top 10 hopefully :cheer:

Yeh getting that calital late airplay boost ;p

Major Lazer should get #3 on Sunday now and it will probably retain the #3 next week as well.

I don't think Fifth Harmony 'Worth It' has a chance of going to #01, I'm predicting a peak of around #03-06 which is still rather incredible.

06. Galantis - Runaway (U & I) [Looks like this could go back into the top 5 *.*, It wouldn't surprise me if it re-peaked also which is incredible]

45 .Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me ['Are You With Me' going to beat Tinie to #01]

58. Tinie Tempah Feat Jess Glynne - Not Letting Go

70. Little Magic - Black Magic

111. Deorrro & Chris Brown - Five More Hours

112. Fifth Harmony Feat Kid Ink - Worth It

154. Avicii - Waiting For Love [i wouldn't be too surprised to see Avicii beat Little Mix as it's much closer than what I thought]

Innovative production from Labrinth (although what's new )
It doesn't translate to his singles as of late though :drama:

:ne: 193. Axwell Λ Ingrosso - Sun Is Shining

Very surprised they aren't going for a held-back release with this- sounds like it'd easily be their biggest hit! (under the 'Axwell Λ Ingrosso' guise anyway)

3. Major Lazer - Lean On (feat. MØ & DJ Snake)

51. Fall Out Boy - Uma Thurman

54. Robin Schulz - Sun Goes Down (feat. Jasmine Thompson) [Radio Mix]

83. Duke Dumont - The Giver

171. Axwell Λ Ingrosso . Sun Is Shining

45 .Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me ['Are You With Me' going to beat Tinie to #01]

58. Tinie Tempah Feat Jess Glynne - Not Letting Go

I'm getting Crazy Stupid Love/Rude teas here - Not Letting Go will most likely make #1 in the first week but Lost Frequencies could take it after that and eventually become the bigger hit? Remember that Rude ended up ahead of Crazy Stupid Love for a couple of weeks before the release but the latter still fairly comfortably made #1.
