Also, could I possibly get a copy of the MP3s for the NOW 90s Dance album? ^_^ That would be my playlist for...well everything.

I have been talking to Colm about doing a 00s thread, and if it goes ahead it'll be starting in a few months time and me and Ethan will be doing the writeups from 2002 onwards (as Colm is only interested in 2000/2001) ^_^

There may be something at some point. :D

Yes congrats to you both on hosting this mammoth thread! A lot of research goes into this kind of thread and it has been a great addition to the chart forum over the months.

Thanks to all for a great thread!

An utterly bizarre song to finish with, with an equally bizarre title (it seems to mean 'those who know a lot about a little vs those who know a little about a lot').

The one I was hoping for was Barber's Adagio for Strings! Equally massive chart run over late 1999/early 2000 (#4 peak) but I guess Rewind or C vs I outsold it for its peak weeks. But I've enjoyed the Cuban Boys track since I first got sent it as an mp3 (on MSN Messenger I think!) over a decade ago, it's a fun update to the sample-heavy dance tracks of the late 80s and shows us the power of that exciting new internet thing on its way.

Echoing everyone, fantastic thread and it's introduced me to songs I'd never heard before which given how much I *thought* I knew about 90s dance I'd never have expected. I'd totally follow a noughties thread too although I'm prepared for a tough ride once the early noughties are over :P Thanks all and thanks Colm for the files, looking forward to one heck of a listen!

I don't think I've posted much if at all in this thread but bravo to Colm and Doctor Blind for completing what seems like a pretty mammoth task with consistently high quality writeups from start to finish.

(edit: yup, this is my only post in this thread, though I have lurked in here a bit at various points throughout it lol)

I don't want to single out particular contributors but a stalwart of this thread has of course been richie with unadulterated criticism and praise of nearly every entry in this list.

Ha! Thanks, just call me the Mark Kermode of Buzzjack!

With regards to the name of C vs I. I think it's a comment on the song itself - on the face of it, the record is a cash-in on a short-lived phenomenon...not too different to the Crazy Frog which would come a few years later. But the way it came to be - via John Peel and thanks to it becoming the second most requested record ever on his show (after God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols) is the interesting thing here. This kind of novelty record is usually the preserve of children, but this was a single being bought by people more usually found seeking out rare Sonic Youth bootlegs which is reflected in its quick descent down the chart - novelty records usually climb gradually. It also went to lengths to dilute the simplicity of "The Hampster Dance" - in a way it rescued poor Roger Miller from that association and plunged him into something far sillier, but more fun. I guess it's fair to say most people who bought it were fans of Disney's Robin Hood but had never seen the Hampster Dance web page.

Therefore, the title - two synonyms referring to highly educated and informed people at odds with each other is perfect. This was a record that should not have been popular but was - and, in that way, you can attribute the same kind of playful subversion of The KLF to the Cuban Boys.

Yes, I bought it.

Now you say the thread is complete... but... I don't see the list of best sellers for 1999 yet! 😃

:D

Well spotted.

I may not have commented quite as often as I'd have liked but I have very much been paying attention! 😃

Could we get a complete list at some point too? I'm curious to see how many I bought (although this may show dubious taste on my part at times)

1992 for me.

From memory I think 1992 had the highest average official position of the highest placed dance track followed by 1999.
