It looks like Eminem won't have a phenomenal chart return this Sunday.
pre-order update

236. Kiss Me Quick - Nathan Sykes (5th July)

Not many big releases anytime soon..

"Kiss Me Quick" was meant to be released yesterday. When will record labels learn to stop messing about with release dates? Just leave them as they are

Ha! Pushing himself to an even more competitive week (5 days though - might give him an advantage tbh)! Poor hen. :')

And he won't be pushed down by the weekend streaming effect

Please climb to #1 Rita. Rita should be the one to beat Cheryl's record, not Jess

But they are all so basic, #justiceforGeri

There is hardly any new tracks out at the moment, well nothing major big, until the new schedule kicks in. Years & Years - Shine probably get it the week after, or Tinie & Jess will probably get another week or 2 on low sales. unless something else climbs back up to #1.

As for the albums is a different matter, there isn't anything big in the next fortnight, Florence could get another 2 weeks.

What's going on this year, why are so few singles catching on with the general public? Even last year there seemed to be at least a couple of big releases a week, we're now lucky if we even get one and ending up with more songs racking up default weeks at No.1 due to no competition.

Are people just not interested in buying/listening to new music as regularly anymore, or are radio/TV to blame for not pushing as much new stuff as they used to? I understand streaming's impact is a large one but the turnover around the top of the sales chart seems much slower to me this year as well, largely because nobody seems to be releasing 'event' singles this year at all so far.

Well the problem is, we can't buy singles that *aren't* being released. :P

There does seem to have been a terrible lack of new material this year - I can understand record companies waiting until autumn to release new material by big name artists, but I see no such reason to delay singles releases - their sales aren't seasonally dependant.

It just feels as if hardly anything released this year has become ingrained into popular culture, nothing's particularly 'gone viral' that I can think of either, it's been a weird year for mainstream music so far with very little of note actually happening imo. Hopefully Q4 is shaping up to be incredible if everybody is holding stuff back.

Eminem - Phenomenal  37

Andy Grammer - Honey, I'm Good  67 (boosted by a play on R1 this morning)

Bleachers - I Wanna Get Better  168

They should re-introduce compilations to the album chart as they are what would save it from low sales. If not, at least include them into the album sales chart or introduce a brand new combined album chart

LMAO! You just contradicted yourself there... ;)

 Geri's the loudest personality of the lot and she didn't need no rapper to assist :smoke:

The first half of the year can often be very quiet (particularly around February-April in some years).

But also, the chart has slowed down. A long-running #15 hit from today is like a long-running #8 hit from a few years ago, or a front-loaded #11 hit today is like a front-loaded #5 hit from a few years ago.

Basically, I think people need to lower their standards for what a "big chart hit" is, if you keep the same standards as in the download era it's just going to seem like there aren't many big songs anymore.

Personally in real life I haven't noticed much difference. I generally hear a lot of both old and current (probably leaning more towards old songs), but that's been the case for as long as I can remember tbh.

Also, Uptown Funk was so successful that maybe it counts as like 5 massive hits to the general public.

Following on from The Who's headline performance at Glastonbury:

141. Baba O'Riley

166. My Generation

313. Pinball Wizard

331. Who Are You

411. Won't Get Fooled Again

627. Behind Blue Eyes

707. You Better You Bet

772. I Can See For Miles

992. The Kids Are Alright

1209. The Seeker

1404. Substitute

Freak of the Week is so generic to me. This reggae/dancehall/hip-hop stuff is so popular at the moment, I'm not a fan
